When a fighter is weigh-shot it means that the weight they've had to make has impacted them adversely. Being dead at the weight usually means that the fighter had too much trouble getting down to the weight. Also known as weight draining - see Chad Dawson vs Andre Ward etc..
The reverse can happen too - having to go up in weight, if done too quickly and without a beneficial program can mean the fighter's abilities are greatly compromised - see Marquez vs Mayweather.
Which of these fighters was or will be most affected by weight issues, or any other examples feel free to drop.:
Geale against Cotto at 157 (Geale down from 160)
Porter against Broner (Porter down from 147)
Hopkins vs Degale (Hopkins down from 175)
Marquez vs Mayweater (Marquez jumped 135 to 147)
Dawson vs Ward at 168 (Dawson down from 175)
De La Hoya vs Pac is the worst I can think of.
Agree it was the worst dehydrated fighter I have seen in 50 years of the sport , he was the the dead man walking of the millennium .
How about Kelly Pavlik jumping 10lbs to get dominated by Hopkins?
I don't think weight played as much of a role there as the fact that Kelly was already a hardcore alcoholic and contemplating quitting at that point.
Strangle poll you combined past fights with present fights, but for fights of the past I think Dawson when facing Ward was the most "dead at the weight fighter", while for upcoming fights I think Porter vs Broner is the absolute worst. Cotto vs Geale is getting more heat(and should be getting more heat because it is the lineal belt), but I have no idea how Porter is going to make 144 and the re-hydration limit is the nail in the coffin for him if you ask me. Porter is a big welterweight, packs a lot of muscle and kills himself to make 147, three less pounds is in my opinion to much for him. Unless he drops a lot of muscle weight which would also have averse effects I don't think he will be able to make weight.
Porter looks like a huge 154 pounder and wasn't he at 160 in the amateurs?

I voted Dawson suffered the most. He should have known his own body better than that. He was very weak indeed. Hopkins won't suffer one bit making 168. He probably doesn't weight much more than 168 right now. Hopkins was the champ at 160 until he was over 40. You don't grow or get bigger after 40 although some fighters might get fat and lazy past 40 but not Hopkins.
I expect Porter to struggle badly with the weight. He's had to strip naked to make 147, no idea how he's going to lose another 3lbs.
Dawson was a complete shell against Ward, the weight ruined him. De La Hoya was the same against Pac, a complete shell.
