Hugging, holding, headlocks, pushing the head is destroying boxing. And the people behind the scenes making sure the likes of Khan and Mayweather win despite that way of fighting are the ones responsible for having messed up and messing up the sport.
If you are ok with hugging, holding and pushing, better watch MMA. At least there something spectacular might actually happen like a submission instead of seeing the referree breaking up the clinch. I almost stopped watching the Algieri-Khan fight in the first half when I saw how much Khan was hugging, holding and pushing down Algieri's head. At least with Mayweather you are waiting for something spectacular like the pull-counter or the quick lunging left hook or just his defense when he doesn't run or hug.
Let's see the viewership when more boxers do this ugly style of fighting and when it is not Mayweather doing it. There's a reason the "Mexican style" of fighting is appreciated by even the likes of Golovkin.
Nevermind the 51 belts the wba has in 17 weight classes or the 34/36 belts the wbc has in 17 weight classes....but yeah, holding, headlocks and pushing (which have been done for AGES) is destroying boxing! smMFh
All I see is excuses. Fury had a point taken off so stop whining. Wilder losing must have really affected you.
When I see a championship fight, I want a new champion to be crowned with clean fighting and without controversy.
If Fury wins the 3rd fight decisively, without excessive fouls, then I will give him all the respect in the world.
Fury vs. Wilder II was full of dirty tactics.
Headlocks, rabbit punches, holding and hitting, shoving, open-hand slaps, tripping, etc.
I paid for a boxing match, not WWE. I don't even know if I wanna buy Fury vs. Wilder III because Wilder will probably come in angry with elbows and headbutts this time, and it will end in DQ.

Yeah, Khan's performance last night was atrocious. Not warned one single time for blatant illegal tactics all night long....smh, I guess if you are on the "right team", anything is fair game.
So you didn't like when Khan did it, but you celebrate when Fury does it?
How so? Please explain.

Dirty boxing is apart of the sport, thing is some complain about it and then when its used by their fighter or to beat a fighter they hate they love it. When fighters go overboard its very annoying but here n there its a taught art. choking, excess laying on, head locks, etc
Good post. Its becoming worse. To add insult to injury last night Algieri was warned for the holding..stop putting your head down under Khans arm. :lol1: Remember Khan vs Collazo? Holding galore, ref ignored it. This is the problem. Refs need to ENFORCE the rules FAIRLY and the same for all fighters. Not discriminate... well we cant allow infighting for fighter A however fighter B will be allowed to excessively clinch. Its a contradiction to call a fighter great who uses these tactics. If the fighter was great they wouldnt need to clinch as a gameplan..but usually the refs turn a blind eye to it..so thats the root cause.
Agree. Fighters won't get away with the hugging if not allowed to.
Ok but you have to admit that the lack of inside skills of a lot of fighters allows this to happen. I don't want to see spoiling tactics as to avoid 'the fight' either, but I also don't like to see fighters sit there silently agreeing to it because they don't know what the hell to do, or are out of shape and like the breathers, etc.
There are some very good inside fighters who are hard to clinch, can keep hands free, can take an angle, change their defense, change levels.. and become entirely different fighters in that range..they might even institutue a clinch themselves in order to release themselves to create space to fire. Those skills have eroded due to the past 25 years AM scoring system, it's not the goons behind the scenes causing this
No we don't. Even if you are Roberto Duran you will get tied up if your opponent wants to. That is an excuse for those who like to clinch.
When I spar some young kid who is really good and hurting me, I clinch and we (my opponent and those watching) laugh about it. It is a survival, scared to get hit move.

Here's what I would do: 2 clinches per round, 1st 3rd clinch in a round results in a verbal warning from the ref, every other 3rd clinch per round results in a point deduction. This would make boxing more fluid and fan friendly IMO.

More and more, spoilers are being rewarded for making the fight as ugly as possible. Meanwhile, the guy who is trying to, you know, actually make the fight, is depicted as a skill-free bum who needs to overcome the clinching, the excessive running, the headlocks etc.
It's a pure safety-first approach from guys who are playing the system. Read Holyfield's article on this very point.
Exactly. With Mayweather it is still watchable because he just has spectacular reflexes and speed that he still displays - but not to mean that it is fair for him to hug, hold and push or that he actually won his fights.
But with others like Khan, Ward, Klitschko what's so nice to watch? Maybe with Klitschko at least he KO's his opponents. Unlike the first two who you know are there to survive and steal the win on points.
