Pretty simple, I think the following are the 10 best super middleweights ever, using the usual criteria of skills, titles, reign, opponents faced, best wins and so on.
1. Joe Calzaghe
2. Chris Eubank
3. Carl Froch
4. Andre Ward
5. Roy Jones Jr.
6. Nigel Benn
7. Mikkel Kessler
8. Svenn Ottke
9. James Toney
10. Chong Pal Park
Guys, list your fighters.
ok brits:
you ahve froch ranked over ward.
why?
this will be entertaining. get together in your little limey circle jerk and start rubbing.
You realize that Froch is Ward's best win right? So it doesn't make sense to talk down Froch as a fighter.
Look at these whiny-arse Yanks crying because some people don't rate a Yank #1
i understand that you guys can't comprehend this, but when you have enough great fighters, you stop favoring your own contemporary fighters.
act like you've been there.
it's the whiny- arse brits who look pathetic when they argue that an inferior fighter is the best of the era at the weight.
how about you answer the question:
why is froch the best SMW of the era?
groves and bute?
Because he beat Bute which is sort of like beating Ward.
:D
"we overrated the hell out of bute, so froch is the GOAT."
"we closed our eyes when liberado andrade was robbed of a knockout win over bute, so froch is the goat."
brits need to learn that you don't rank fighters based on the color of their trunks.
Titles? Has Froch ever been the lineal champion? No. Has Ward? Yes, still is. Has Froch ever unified the division (WBA regular titles don't count)? No. Has Ward? Yes.
Resume? Ward has Froch. Froch doesn't have Ward. Ward has Kessler. Froch lost to Kessler. Won the rematch but not as convincingly as Ward beat him. Pascal and Bute are good wins. Ward has Bika and Dawson.
Ward's top 5 wins: Froch, Kessler, Abraham, Dawson, Bika.
Froch's top 5 wins: Kessler, Pascal, Abraham, Bute, Groves
Conclusion: You're a bloody wanker.
how f#cking retarded do you have to be to rank froch over ward?
who was the best SMW of the era?
i'll give you a hint: it's not the guy who lost his two biggest fights.
you brits should show up to canastota during hall of fame week and talk some of your nonsense with real boxing people.
"froch was the best SMW of the era."
"..."
you'll start to figure out how dumb you sound. i understand that it's hard to get an idea of how dumb you sound in NSB, where everybody else sounds just as dumb.
you guys are f#cking dumb.

Oh I thought it was based on achievement etc
H2H I think both decision Kessler, he's robust as hell and would be up there as one of their best wins. In his absolute prime of the Calzaghe fight he was very, very good
My criteria includes achievements, h2h, quality of opposition faced, skills, speed, power, aggression, titles, title reign(s), all those things.
Kessler scores highly in some of those categories, kinda low in a few others, it's what separates him from the other two guys (RJJ and Benn). But it's not a huge difference.

I like the list, I'd probably move Kessler to 5 though as benn and Jones did a lot of their best work at other weights
I just felt that, although Kessler has some very good achievements at 168, he can't match the explosiveness of Benn or the overall quality of Jones, if they ever went h2h, I'd favour both guys over Kessler, possibly even by stoppage.
No Steve Collins? WTF! And while I'm a huge Roy fan he does'nt deserve to be on the list at SMW just for the fact he never fought Benn, Eubank or Collins.
Collins could have made it on, I wouldn't argue if you'd have him there. WOuld he be higher than RJJ? I dunno.
Wow sorry my bad I missed you had Froch #3, I thought you were one of those Khan fanboys who dislikes Froch :lol1: so I thought you deliberately excluded him from the list.
I'm a Khan fan but still a Froch fan, their beef is quite **** as both ***** out when they face each other in person.

Lol you and your emotionally driven, anti Froch agenda again..
mine?
You placed froch over ward? Here come the ward fans....:dead:
loool well I'm expecting it, it's part of boxing discussion. As long they are boxing fans first then I don't mind.
My reasoning is that yes, h2h Ward is better but he falls behind in almost every other category (resume, titles, reign). I still believe there should have been a rematch, it was a very good win for Ward but he got clocked well in the last 3 rounds and Froch really pushed him in the championship distance.
Plus Froch seemed rejuvenated from Bute, Mack to Kessler II. That version would have given Ward an even better fight.
Ward can still claim that 3rd place if he achieves more in the division.
