I'm not up on all their history but they seem to be churning out a lot of top notch boxers at the moment.
Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Froch, Degale, Khan, Brook, Quigg, Frampton...has there ever been another era where this much world class talent has come out of the United Kingdom?
I have followed boxing for a very long time and I can't remember when there were so many champions and good fighters from the UK fighting at the same time. I would say yes this is a great time for boxing in the UK. It is also a great time for fighters from Russia and nearby areas.
Golden age of mediocrity glistening with stardom. You forgot Burns!
I would expect it to be so. In the past many boxers admitted or were caught on some substances. As boxers use less drugs in boxing, we will get less impressive matches IMO.
Apparently baseball has seen less impressive stats since cheats were caught more but this is something I saw another poster type. So not a fact until I research it
It's a massive sport in the UK, you look at Groves and Froch selling 80k tickets. I doubt that would happen in any other country for two domestic fighters.

It's really a testament to how great and passionate our fans are.
It's not a big sport here yet we fill out arenas all over the country.
Our fans are so passionate that other countries presume its a massive sport here.
Football fills stadiums every week, and that ranges from 60 k to 30k.
Boxing does that every few months so it's not a massive sport here. However we have loyal fans who spend money to travel.
How many Mexicans, Americans or Ricans travel to other countries to another continent for their fighter? Not that many from what I see.
US fans in general seems ****ty I must say. Mayweather in the UK would be a sporting super hero. In the US he is treated kind of ****ty
It's not a massive sport in the UK. It wouldn't even make the top 5. You have to go into a sub-section on most sporting websites to find boxing. It's not well covered in the papers either.
Yeah for once in a lifetime massive events, the fans will turn out but it's still a niche sport here. Ask the average joe on the street to name 5 boxers and they'd struggle

Internet ERA benefits the UK probably the most. Example, I have seen Anthony Joshua entire Pro Career so far and he haven't even fought in the US Yet :lol1: thanks to the internet and the people who work hard to keep streams up 24/7, now boxing fans have access to it all!
Selling boxing is easier for someone like Eddie Hearn because fans actually give a sh1t about boxing in the UK while in America promoting is extremely Difficult because it seems like the interest is decreasing. UK is doing great, Froch vs Groves that was some amazing stuff the watch in that Stadium!
Boxing generally is still bigger in America than it is over here.
Mexican Americans and Puerto Rican Americans alone are bigger markets than the UK for boxing. Not to say it isnt doing okay here
England has been producing good fighters since the 90s, but I have to say this, DeGale probably loses in a rematch with Dirrell and he definitely loses to a 100% Ward.
I would love to see Froch get a couple of tune ups then fight DeGale for the title, would be a great fight in England, then the winner fights Ward for the title after Ward gets a couple of tune ups, then GGG grows a pair and moves up and fights the champ at 168, that would be phenomenal!

Impressive Olympics as well in 2012. They've always had at least a couple talented fighters emerge, but recently they've been coming through with more talent.
Funny enough Audley Harrison campaigned to get amateurs to get paid money to box etc...
He got the gold in 2000 which helped.
Khan was the only boxer in our Olympic team in 2004... that helped make us realise **** why only one boxer
Since then it's been up and up. 2008 Deglae won a gold, and I think ther medalsits too but I forgot the names

The UK is putting sports on the agenda from school. I use to think it was for glory and the Olympics etc... but since I work in health care, I realise every penny spent is about saving money in the long term.
In the past we had Physical education which was pretty much a game of soccer. Now I hear it is a respected class where people do boxing, basketball, hockey, rugby etc... this may help.
We are doing pretty well at the moment, especially with big wins away from home, but its worth noting we don't have a single fighter who is no.1 in their division that I can think of.
Compared with say 2005-2010 when we had Hatton, Haye and Calzaghe as clear no.1's. Plus a few other alphabet champs as well.
But hey. Things are looking good. Some talented fighters waiting to break onto the main stage too, difficult to say who will succeed and who wont.
If this is a golden age...
We have 5 world champs with a population of just under 60mi. The US has 12 champs with a population over five times as large. So yeah, it is a golden age because we are punching above our weight when it comes to our relative size.
