I want to see a rematch, they robbed Degale in the first fight. To this day I still can't figure out how groves won that fight. I remember the crowd booing and hating on Degale hard for some reason.
DeGale has options right now, Hearns a smart promoter, this fight is a solid match up in the UK. If DaGale beats Grooves, Hearns can match him up with either Ward or Froch after that or if Hearn wants to build DeGale up, a little longer he can make the rematch with Dirrell.
I saw the way DeGale dropped Dirrell twice than came back in the championship rounds and got the W. I give him credit for taking advantage of opportunity and coming through in the clutch.
It was a close fight, would not be mad if someone scored it 7-5 for DeGale either but I think his work rate dipped towards the end of the fight and Groves edged him because of it.
I do think he can beat Groves who has not looked good since his first fight vs Froch. He needs a better camp.
This degale gassing thing doesnt sit right with me.
In the lead up to the fight, sky pundits had said jim mcdonnell is probably not the best coach tactically but that he's more renown for his conditioning of his fighters.
James himself said that jim does 2 hour runs with him every day and that he's very fit..
So when you hear that, you must think James is not gna gas in the late rounds.
But he ran out of gas quite early on. Atleast that was what it looked like . Why else would he let Dirrell back into the fight. Unless he purposely started boxing on the back foot and let Dirrell come to him but then why would he do that when he was on top.
Something doesnt add up.
That's that dumbass old school conditioning that doesn't work.
He finished strong and clearly won the championship rounds. It's better than running out of gas trying to do too much and getting stopped late due to exhaustion.
Exactly. He was trying to pace himself. Also it's better than wildly going in for the kill and getting caught yourself. Remember Dirrell was doing pretty well in that round before he got dropped like a sack of sh1t. I'd have still liked to have seen DeGale do a little more.
Curse of the talented.
They sometimes coast when they feel they have things under control.
I think he was also holding out for a big finish plus he knew he had a big lead.

True,i think it is that he becomes a bit more hesitant,no willing to take a punch to give one, i think it might be a mental thing if its not gassing out, but he hasnt been KOd before??maybe thats the problem,he dosnt want to risk being KOd if he knows hes ahead ?

I suppose SOG (Son of Ginger) has earned his rematch now that he brings a highly touted legit world championship belt he took off the fierce, active, great-resumed Dirrell...
Yeah, his daddy might give him the rematch now.
Ugly Kid lost the first fight and struggled against a guy who cleans the floors at Mayweather's gym in his last fight.
Will Ugly Kid even beat Badou Jack?
DeGale will leave him sucking on oxygen in the corner at Wembley again next summer.
Groves always stands a chance against Degale
But i feel Groves has lost his mojo since parting ways with Adam Booth
Under Booth, Groves was a skillful fighter with a gameplan, under Paddy he is a brawler, with no gameplan...stays in the pocket too long, looks fookin horrible
and Degale has gotten better
Rematch makes sense,,, I think deGale outpoints groves this time around, setting up the trilogy..
Degale has grown as a fighter and groves has peaked.. Degale is the better fighter right now
DeGale threw away rounds and started to gas, just like the dirrell fight but that time there were no KDs and DeGale didn't rally late.
DeGale has an engine problem, he starts to lose stamina after the 5th or 6th rounds and doesn't throw too many punches, allowing guys to win rounds, not because they are landing on DeGale all that much, few guys can do that but because they are simply throwing more than Chunky.
I had hoped DeGale had improved on that and after those early KO wins in his last few fights, it was difficult to tell. But it is quite clear now, DeGale, like some other guys out there i.e. Canelo, starts to slow his work rate considerably the longer the fight drags on. IMO, if Groves is back to his best and Froch hasn't taken his soul, then I think he'd beat DeGale again.
True, i still think Groves beats him again, degale has improved alllooootttt since then but your right about his engine and gassing out or even becoming hesitant to trade/throw punchs in the middle rounds, just because groves got KTFO by froch, dose not mean he is not a talented boxer,i mean groves can bang, and if he catchs degale in the middle to late rounds it could be lights out
for him,but at the same time if degale catchs groves early he could do the same, most boxers would of been KOd by that punch from froch, and he looked a bit shell shocked his last few fights,if he is over that now,i think he beats degale better this time around and closes it in the late rounds, i suppose we will see after he faces jack cause that fight is no gimmie either
I thought Degale won the first fight, and he would win again but clearer this time.
That's if Groves beats Jack (not a given imo). I fooking hate Groves.
