We got so much young talent in boxing today but WHO can be the next cross over star?
We got...
Ward
GGG
Dirrell
Khan
Garcia
Crawford
Broner
Wilder, etc.
Who do you see being the next star? I actually like Crawford, he has a good fan base back home, is a likable guy and a guy that I feel can cross over to more demographics than the other young champions today.
Khan?? he isn't even well liked in the UK lmao
Khan is already a crossover star in the UK. Even people who don't know a thing about boxing know who Khan is in the UK. That's crossover appeal, which is what the OP is referring to.
And just for the record, Floyd isn't very well liked in the USA, but that doesn't change the fact that he's the biggest star of boxing today. Even Muhammad Ali wasn't well liked by Americans in his time, yet he became boxing's biggest crossover star of all time.
the main thing that's going to keep ward from superstardom is his unwillingness to play villain but he'll have a great legacy I think. loma is the goods too. GGG will have to avoid ward to get his success going, my 2c
I don't think we'll see another "attraction" like Mayweather or even Pacquiao for at least a decade. I think fans are just so desensitized by the kind of numbers Pac and Mayweather do that the goal is just so unattainable. I don't see any current fighter breaking 1 million ppv buys without another star dance partner, and that's not a shot at them. I think Canelo will hold the torch for a while but still I don't see him getting to a point where selling 800k ppvs will be viewed as failure, which it isnt, unless you're Mayweather. Don't get me wrong, I've never been more pumped for the future of boxing, I just think current guys will be able to crossover into the mainstream like Mayweather and Pacquiao have.
I hope boxing has Learned to spread the wealth around I think 2 guys taking most of the pie was bad for boxing they created this mega fight only to have a dud of a fight. Boxing should have been focusing on others it's the media fault for creating this crap of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao . A GGG or Kovalev fights pack more action than Floyd's entire career
I think the best bet is easily Deontay Wilder
He's a HW, charismatic, packs a big punch, and if he can beat Klitschko he'll gain legitimacy.
Others Broner and Thurman
GGG, Canelo, Crawford, etc dont have cross over potential.Broner is to offensive to have cross over potential like that. There's already footage online of him going down on strippers and telling Jay Z and Rihanna they can suck his d!ck. He put the nail in his own coffin; I honestly believe that Broner has hit a plateau
The biggest problem I see Haymon having is a lack of elite talent outside of Mayweather. After Floyd his best fighter may be Amir Khan. He has Wilder who has a lot of star power in theory, he's got Keith Thurman who seems to get better with every fight, but he's missing a guy like Crawford who you can tell is on his way to bigger things.
Errol Spence Jr

Dirrell and Khan? Are you serious?
I think GGG could have been a huge star if he didn't have half a career of meaningless fights and went a bit more the direction of Lomachenko. But soon Ward will beat him in the ugliest fight ever. It will be like a noble stallion breaking it's leg on a mouldy old horrible , yet skillful, fence post on the final jump of the grand national hahaha
Crawford is in with a good shout probably the best shout.
If Wilder waits for Klitschko to get old and snatches the real heavyweight championship form him he will be a star but also it will be a disgrace lol
Canelo obviously because of the mexican fan base. GGG is gaining some steam and will most likely be the guy canelo will be linked with in the future therefore I believe those 2 will be the sports biggest stars once pac and floyd are gone.
I am more excited for Canelo-GGG than Canelo-Cotto to be honest. They're both great fights but after seeing Canelo and Golovkin on back-to-back weekends in exciting brawls, it's impossible to picture them in a bad fight together.

It's ridiculous. There's actually so much potential today when only last year even naming one successor was tough. A lot of that has to do with PBC too though, but even HBO is on a great run.
There doesn't have to be one though, they can have a different star on every network. There's so much potential for new stars I actually forgot about some of them until reading some of the posts in this thread. TS you also forgot Thurman.
Of course Keith Thurman. How can I forget.
I just think that with Crawford being from Omaha, that really does help him out a lot. Granted, he's a young african american guy but by being from Oklahoma that puts him right there for the caucasian fan base to follow. For example, Ward's fan base is prodominantly black. White people and other ethnic groups support the talent in their area than black people do. I'm not even trying to be funny, or racist with this comment, it's real ****.

Crawford will be the next great American fighter, almost certainly. His best days are ahead of him as he's still very young and is getting close to moving into the glory division of welterweight.
Canelo has a great fanbase already and is almost guaranteed to have a legacy comparable to Oscar De La Hoya, a fan-friendly fighter who may not be the most purely talented but who takes on challenges and goes after the other big fighters.
In my mind GGG is a must-see attraction in the sport today. Every time he fights he will get more fans even if he takes on cab drivers. I had friends over last night to watch the fight and they were definitely impressed by GGG both during and after the fight. Gonzalez made a big impression too.
Wilder could be a great fighter or he could turn out to be overhyped. I actually think Tyson Fury has a bigger crossover potential than Wilder based on their personalities, but Wilder has the advantage of being American and if he can secure the lineal title I think he'll bring a lot of American attention back to the sport.
Boxing has a lot of bright prospects ahead, that's for sure.

Canelo.
People forget that he's 24 and was only 22 when he fought Mayweather. I think that Canelo not being able to speak english will hold him back. GGG is trying to crossover, he was even speaking some spanish on saturday night. I bet you GGG speaks better english than Canelo lol.
