I can't think of many other fighters that have become so popular so quick without having any notable wins.
They tell the public he's great, and they eat it up. Jim Lampley looking at Roy at the end of the fight telling him "it's working" is all the proof I need.
Also have to love the hypocrisy of tonight's interview, he declares he's a fighter now, he wants Canelo and Cotto now (naturally smaller fighters), Ward gets mentioned and his whole triumphant epic speech comes to a halt, all of a sudden doesn't want to fight everyone and anyone right now, just smaller less mobile fighters.
Ward would kill this guy, and I'm so happy that interview happened so everyone saying that Ward was ducking GGG can see the truth.
ah the typical ggg hater diatribe of "ggg should fight guys that won't fight him!"
Calling him a star and being honest about the lack of quality on his resume makes me a GGG hater? Oh its daggum, now I understand how someone could be so stupid.
"ggg should fight guys that won't fight him!"-where exactly did I say this????
HBO has made GGG a star without making him fight anyone that actually had a shot at beating him. Like it or not they are catering to what casual fans want and its working for them and GGG.
Shame of it is he has so much skill that he would do very well with top p4p fighters. He may not win, but he wont fail to show up.

I give way more credit to Tom Loeffler and K2 Promotions, I posted this during the fight that they have done a masterful marketing job. HBO is just where they come to see him fight but it is hard work that is going on behind the scenes in Los Angeles in which K2 gets GGG out with the PEOPLE, Particularly the great Mexican Fans of Los Angeles. On top of the good promotion is the GGG Style which keeps the fans watching and also grabs the attention of other fans
Los Angeles is a GREAT Boxing City, Los Angeles is why Oscar was the draw that he was. Boxing back at the Forum in Inglewood was a great idea and you can tell by how fired up the crowd was that Los Angeles LOVES BOXING! Just haven't had much to cheer about and did not have local boxers to cheer for as of late like it was when Oscar and Mosley was in their PRIME.

Ward hasn't fought in 19 months. 95% of casuals have no clue who he is and you think HBO is gonna pay him $2,000,000+ to fight their middleweight star when he has a catchweight fight at 172 lbs? I've never heard of a situation where for months and months guys are demanding that a fighter move up a weight class to fight a guy who wasn't even active.
Yea because going after guys like Canelo and Julio Cesar Chaves jr proves you want to fight the best fights in your division. He's just like every other fighter looking for big pay days.
Canelo is too small for him and Julio sucks and just got beat by a C-list fighter.
Going after Cotto is an easy win because he's much bigger. Cotto needs to give that belt up and move down because he's stinking up the division.
what's the point of posting if you are just going to ignore reality? i really want to know. ggg tried to fight martinez, cotto, quillin, pirog, sturm, etc...all the guys that were at the top of his division. he was either mandatory and got rejected or sent them offers and got rejected. they simply wouldn't fight him and you are going around pretending that he didn't want to fight them or pretending that there are secret fighters out there that he should have tried to fight but didn't? where are these secret fighters? reality trumps your inane opinions.

you started off pretty good, but the end of your post showed your real intent. no need to front, just put it out there that you dont like the guy......
Ouma was a world champion. Macklin gave a healthy Martinez a great fight and arguably beat Sturm in Germany. Rubio a top 5 MW (Ring).
Not really. You should watch the Martinez documentary on Netflix. His body was hurting way before his Chavez fight.
berto wasn't trying to fight the best in his division and ggg is so yeah its actually the complete opposite thing. also ggg already beat 3 top 5 guys while berto beat zero so once again not the same at all. if you remember the berto bum parade was what got haymon kicked off hbo.

Boxing fans complaining about fighters that specialize in defense, are nothing casual fans.
I appreciate all styles in this sport, I recognize GGG isn't a typical come forward fighter, he actually has pretty decent defense and boxing ability, also one heck of a jab, but this sport doesn't need to be like UFC, I can find the same kind of quality fights at a bar brawl. Boxing is an art.
And I think a lot of you guys are just doing as you're told, Rigo isn't a boring fighter, he's had plenty of entertaining fights, he's also had some boring ones, all of a sudden HBO saids he's boring and everyone wants to hop on the bandwagon.
Guys like Ward, Rigo, Walters, Crawford etc.... Should be having their name promotes just as much as GGG since they all have much better resumes than GGG.
Where you complaining like this when HBO was doing the same thing with Berto when he was unbeaten?
Sure was. Think I'm lying? Check my post history, you'll see a thread I made about how happy I was when he lost to Ortiz
The hype is because GGG delivers everytime... People wanna see knockouts and Golovkin gives them that everytime..
Agreed, his competition might not be all star quality at the moment but the hype surrounding him is the KO that he brings in the ring, this reminds of of a prince Naseem hamed.
Hence, the point of this thread. They've done an incredible job hyping up an unproven fighter, I just wish they could do the same for other fighters under their stable with far more talent. I'd love to see Rigo and Ward become familiar with the casuals.
Even a lot of hardcore boxing fans complain about how boring these guys are to watch. Sorry but it doesn't make good TV for your audience to be yelling "hit him... HIT HIM!" at your star fighter for twelve rounds.
Lots of salt in this thread. GGG is the man, how can you disrespect a guy who fights top 10 opposition three or four times a year and sends them all home early?
When HBO did this with Berto the same posters who shat on Berto are defending GGG. Interesting.
