Former two-weight world champion, Ricky Hatton has provided the public with plenty of insightful stories about his days both inside and outside the ring.
In an extract from his book, Hatton made his distain for the ***8220dckhead***8221; Floyd Mayweather very clear.
But he also told an extremely entertaining tale which really sums up Mayweather***8217;s extraordinary egotism.
Prior to their 2007 fight against one another, ***8216;The Hitman***8217; was traveling by private plane to New York for a promotion event. He soon became aware that Floyd, who was traveling in a separate plane, was ordering his pilot to overtake the English fighter mid-air.
A few minutes into the the journey, we***8217;re chatting away, having a drink when the pilot gestures to me to come forward. ***8216;Hey Ricky, listen to this idiot.***8217;
He turns on the speaker and over the radio I hear Floyd arguing with the pilot of his plane behind: ***8220;I***8217;m not letting that motherf*cker get there before me, f*cking overtake them!***8221;
***8220;We cant do that, Sir.***8221;
***8220;Overtake that motherf*cker ***8211; I***8217;m the champ! I***8217;ve got to get to New York first. I***8217;ll pay whatever you want.***8221;
Hatton summed up his opinion of Mayweather in one classic line.
What***8217;s the point of being the world***8217;s best fighter if everyone thinks you***8217;re a dickhead?
I'd say one of the the more overrated of the last 15 years. Sure he had a great fan base, but that dosent make him intersting to me. That popularity is why a publisher is willing to put the book out. They'll each buy two copies.
I'd be much more interested in reading a book about say Emanuel Burton, James Toney, Erik Morales., Naseem Hamed. All intersting and/or controversial characters in and out of the ring, IMO. You have my vote for MVP !!:boxing:
He's one of the most interesting fighters of the last 15 years in my opinion. His heart and will was unbelievable in the ring. It's interesting how he was able to achieve the level of celebrity he did in the UK. His fans were bar none the best in the sport, and they came to Vegas and took the whole sh*t over. Then Ricky just pissed it all away with his bad habits and addictions. It would be great to hear about all of this from his perspective.

You can look at this another way I'm sure people sheer hatred of floyd won't allow them to but the man is absolutely obsessed with winning, maybe even to the point it's unhealthy. point is athletes like that seldom lose. Jordan has a different public image but is very similar to Floyd in that sense and most of his teammates despised him for it. That's also why I'd assume they like both like gambling. the love the thrill of competing in something they have no control over...
Jay-z had a story where he played Jordan in pool and kept beating him. Jordan had him playing for hours until Jay finally (as he tells it) let Jordan win just so he could stop harassing him to continue playing.
You have a very strange way of looking at fights, man.
Ignorance is bliss... imagine being able to watch fights and the person you pick to win always win!!!!>? I'd love this sport even more... now if you can convince your bookie to somehow see it your way and pay you because the judges got it wrong you're paid in the shade.
why would anyone want to read Ricky Hattons book? There is not an interesting bone in his chubby body.

I'm in love with the COCO!! :boxing: Hatton opinion doesn't matter !! cocaine is a hellva drug! !:dead:
It's really not, actually. If he was smoking crack I'd agree.
Ricky Hatton embarrassed the hell out of floyd until that lucky flash KD that was magnified by hitting the corner of the ring which hurt him badly. Floyd always dodged the rematch and with good reason. Cant wait to read this book.

Haha it's a fun story. Kind of weird also.
I have his older book, but will have to pick up a copy of his new one. I'd imagine there are some funny stories in there.
Yeah definitely. I got his other one too and enjoyed it a lot and it seems like this one will be a bit more fun so I think it is a must. I have heard this plane story a couple of times though but still, it is pretty funny that Floyd thought a pilot would do that. I hope the book has a load of others that are quite similar.
I can imagine there will be some comedy gems uncovered when he explains his after fight parties in Vegas.
Hatton called Floyd out and bashed him the same way Floyd bashed him in 24/7.
Don't start nothing there won't be nothing.
Btw Floyd has been nothing but respect to Ricky Hatton from right after the ref counted Hatton out.
what's with all the sour grapes?
The only sour grapes I see are the Floyd fans here who get their panties in a twist anytime someone isn't slurping Floyd. Its a funny story. I laughed when I read it. I didn't see it as a knock on Floyd. I saw it as Hatton finding it amusing that Floyd would act so childish. If Hatton feels that Floyd is a D.H then he's entitled to his opinion.
LOL funny story! You can tell who the idiot floyd fans on this thread are when they can't even laugh at a funny story only because Floyd is involved. Fucking grow up some of you, geez.

I don't think it's sour grapes, i think it's just an honest opinion.
