I think it was dangerous because he was physically involving himself in a fight and not breaking the action. If you grab a fighters arm, then his defense on that side of his body becomes vulnerable. What if Figueroa threw a hook when Cole was grabbing Burn's arm and knocked him out? There's a reason a ref is suppose to break the fight when he wants to intervene. The one bright spot about this is that Cole will have nothing to do with the Alvarez/Kirkland fight.
I've seen Cole do some really bad officiating and have called for his removal in fights past, but in Figueroa over Burns I thought he was ok.
Burns just would not let go of that arm...like ever. Two warnings, then a point, then another and he still wouldn't let go that fkn arm.
He brought that **** on himself.
The points deducted were justified and the decision a good one, though I find the one score of 117-109 to be a bit wide.
His whole demeanour just makes him look like a prick. Then he immediately was warning burns, didnt say a word to figueroa. The sky pundits were saying that it was dangerous to pull the hands down. Dont really see it as dangerous but i dont think he should do it as much as he does. Another ref does the same thing but not to the same extent as Cole.
He likes to assert his power, this guy has some sort of personality complex.
It would have been interesting to see how many complained about him if he reffed the mayweather - pacquaio fight
I had no dog in the fight. My issue is with Cole, and how he keeps getting work. Other than that, great fight. I thought burns won the fight, easy.

I get you...and if the scorecards weren't so out of whack then I'd probably be in here joining you in the bashing because the 2nd deduction cost Burns the fight on my card. I liked what Cole was doing to make it a good inside fight, but he ruined it (or so I thought). I can't even bring myself to me mad at him this time because it turned out being so inconsequential because of the judges
I had 113-113. Burns would have won without the deduction(s)
I wouldn't say he won the fight easy I however felt he did more than enough to justify a win, it's a shame that this type of bias goes on in boxing to this day it just looks like a complete fixed job.
Sadly nothing will get done just like the time Lawrence allowed Salido to treat Lomachenkos nut sack as a speedball.
Easy, might have been a stretch. I admit that. I do feel he won this fight though. I have no problem with the fighters (zero issue with the fighters), I don't like the ref.
People who hate Cole also seem to be fans of clinch and hold fighters. Coincidence?
Both fighters were fighting dirty in that fight and If anything you could make a louder argument for Figueroa being the dirtier fighter of the two yet somehow he doesn't get any points deduction or any serious stern warning.

He was working and I gave him some of those rounds. At that point, Cole hadn't deducted any points - what were the judges doing giving all those rounds to Figueroa? Cole had nothing to do with that.

Okay, so the argument I keep seeing in favor of Cole is keeping the action going, right?
So burns was not working in the first four rounds as Cole grabbed him? What about the constant slaps to the middle of his back?
Hey man, I get it, keep the action going. If you saw no fault in anything he was doing, cool man.

Believe me, I don't like Cole either but I thought he was doing alright in facilitating the fight until the 2nd deduction. And it didn't even matter because the cards were already turned in apparently.
How about posting this in the ACTUALY RBR THREAD.
Having a separate thread about this issue is sensible, he was absolutely terrible and he in my opinion abused his powers as a referee he needs to go under investigation.
2nd point deduction was bs...but have no issue with what he was doing preventing holding free up the arms allow for action ...yeah that sucked
