We got some nice afternoon boxing with Figueroa-Burns, Kameda-McDonnell, Trout-Galarza and others. This is the official (no one's on ignore) discussion and round-by-round thread. Recommended user setting 30-40 posts per page
Recorded the fight yesterday and just got a chance to watch it...wow what horrible refereeing. He must have grabbed Burns' arm out of the clinch like 20 times when he shouldn't have. His point deduction ended up not even mattering though because the judges clearly weren't watching the fight. I though Burns won but they didn't even have it close, wtf?
Yeah, the judges filled out their cards before the fight.
Did you expect that by accident the judges would have had given the decision to Burns?
In Texas? On a Haymon card?
absolute joke figueroa lost clearly, burns landed the cleaner punches, all fig did was sit on burns chest and take punishment most of the fight. he was outboxed and outbrawled by ricky.
Yeah, the judges filled out their cards before the fight.
Hmm.. There were noises coming out that Burns did look great in the gym. So maybe he's born again after all. Will have to watch the fight.
McDonnell-Kameda was a a good fight, I had it 114-113 Kameda but the scorecards that had it the otherway were just as reasonable. McDonnell showed that he may not be spectacular but he is a talented fighter.
Had Burns winning 114-112. Laurence Cole and the judges were about as incompetent as it gets. The thing about Cole is that his incompetence is consistent and yet he continues to referee fights, including big fights. Figueroa showed little to no guile whatsoever, it was Burns who displayed the greater skill.
Happy for McDonnell, that was a great win for him. A good, close fight that one.
I feel sorry for Burns though. Those scorecards were bad, and Cole really is an awful ref. I have never seen a ref grab a fighter's arms the way he did.
Burns showed heart though..i didn't expect him to fight like that.
Nice KO from Joshua as expected..looking forward to Johnson up next.
I missed the Sturm, Macklin, Campbell and Smith fights..hopefully will catch them tomorrow.
I heard the Buglioni Vs Markham fight was really good ?
Hopefully now, the Canelo Vs Kirkland fight is a good one.
i think a solid in-fighter like peterson eats that kid alive. peterson has a lot more pop than burns and he has a nice body attack. maybe throw him in with guys like hank lundy or antonio demarco. looking at the top 10, im not sure he fares well against any of those guys. i bet him and john molina would be a fun fight
Yeah I think so too, he's tough and relentless but gets caught way too easily, Burns was snapping his head back a lot and doing some good body work, a natural 140 pounder with more pop and more skill/experience (no disrespect to Burns) would eat him alive, he's just too easy to hit, it's okay to be willing to take a few shots in exchanges but he's way too excessive lol.
He's a good fighter to watch when you want to see a bit of brawling and a bit of action but the top guys at 140 will give him loads of trouble like you just said, if he just stands there and is willing to brawl with the likes of Provodnikov, Matthysse, Garcia or Peterson then he'll be in for a short career IMO.
Thought the scores were very wide for Fig, but wasn't suprised, many rounds were very competitive and when they're like that the hometown guy is expected to get the rounds, I think if it was in a neutral area it would have been much closer on the cards too, I think the second point deduction was a bit cruel.
Can't see this guy fairing too well at 140 or above, a lot of big hitters around those weights that will punish him for making the mistakes he does and being willing to take the punishment he does, he's exciting and has a big tank but I can see him having a short career, fighting like that all the time takes its toll.
