Finally, a mega fight to attract casual fans and showcase the sport at its finest. Manny Pacquiao, the ultimate action boxer, shows up and performs terribly. Mayweather lives up to his end of the deal, does what he does, and Pacquiao basically does nothing to change that.
Not only that, but Pacquiao and his team do not disclose his injury and cast doubts on the result and the performance of the fight. You have so many potential new followers for the sport, really paying attention for the first time, and now they feel cheated. People spent their hard-earned money, and now they have a result that Manny and his team are trying to discredit.
The only way this could have been solved, is if Manny just humbly accepted defeat, instead of whining like a jerk. The best case scenario is that he entered the ring with a minor injury and aggravated it during the fight. Then he can accept the loss and say that's the nature of the sport and people don't feel cheated. Once he complained that he was hurt going into the ring, trying to discredit the result, people felt like they'd been cheated.
Good job Manny, Roach and Arum. You screwed up bad. I hope the class action suit against you succeeds, Manny gets suspended, his lawyer loses his license and Roach never has the opportunity to mouth to a journalist ever again.
I think, knowing the history of Floyd, and his age, what he did in the ring is exactly what you'd expect. He can be in good exciting fights when his opponent is good enough to pressure him and make him fight at a faster pace. What Mayweather does looks easy, but it isn't. Really, Pacquiao just got outboxed. He wasn't good enough to put pressure on Floyd.
As for how much damage Mayweather has done to boxing, that's another argument and it's pretty easy to argue his done a lot of damage outside the ring. But that's not what this thread is about.
In this particular fight, I think the post-fight meltdown has done more damage to the sport than Mayweather's well established fighting style. Have you ever heard of a class action lawsuit brought against a boxer by the viewing public before?
LMAO so I guess Manny fought alone in the ring hence he's the only one to blame? And LOL at the statement that Floyd lived to his end of the deal. Really? Wasn't his camp proclaiming that they will knock him the fack out? And didn't Floyd also say that this will be an exciting fight?
And weren't Floyd dick riders boasting that it was solely due to Floyd's brilliance that Manny had a low punch output? So shouldn't you be blaming Floyd instead for still playing his keep away game all night long instead of at least engaging with the midget even for a couple of rounds LOL
Poster probably never heard of the saying it takes two to tango.
I think Mayweather did more damage, he was the one who got boo'ed.
floyd could've ko'ed a klitschko and the fans would've boo'ed. fans booing floyd wasn't going change regardless of what he did in the ring so it's pacquiao who did more damage to the sport by not being able to living up to his "fighter of the decade" hype inside of the ring and not being a good loser outside of the ring.
Can't throw more running and hugging. Mayweather did what he needed to. Pacquiao didn't. One fighter confirms his status as the best of this era while the other is taking butthurt to heights unseen. Pathetic and amusing at the same time, I must say.
Yep. Pacquaio is a FRAUD. Been knocked out 3times
I'm just talking about the fight itself, don't personally care about the post fight talk. There were two fighters in the ring. Together they didn't make for an entertaining fight. Pacquiao and Mayweather, neither had great fight Saturday. Of course Pacquiao left much to desire but same with Floyd. I thought he could have done more himself to really make a statement. Overall it was disappointing performance by both guys. I've seen both fight much better/entertaining. Like I said though, stuff like this happens, not just in boxing in all sports. Sometimes two fighters or two teams match up well on paper, everyone is excited but for whatever reasons it just doesn't play out well. It happens.
I know what you're saying -- I was just staying in line with the post I was responding to and what was being discussed.
For me, the only disappointment was seeing just how far past it both guys are. Both are at the end of the line. But for every second of the bout, I was absolutely enraptured, waiting for something to happen. It was thrilling. In the end, nothing crazy happened which obviously was disappointing but we got a winner and, whether people like it or not, an answer to a five-year old question. On to the next.
If we are talking about how casual fans saw things. I don't think it's Pacquiao they are criticizing. Most jibes i have seen from casuals are aimed at Mayweather for holding, running ect. That's not my view of the fight by the way, im going by reactions i have seen from fans attracted to this fight as casuals.
As for potential new fans being turned off by Manny's team not signing off the injury on a piece of paper. I'm sure many of them don't even know about it. They switched off their attention to the whole fight saga, as soon as the final bell went.
And as for the ones who do know about it. If 'new' and 'casual' fans can stick around after stuff like Tyson biting off Holyfield's ear, i'm sure something like keeping an injury secret isn't going to make them run off into the night.
Has the whole thing been a bit shitty overall. Has it ruined boxing...of course not.
Nah it's Pacquiao which is why they suing him. The ones saying mayweather ran are the same haters after all his fights.
So one guy can hold and run for 12 rounds and you want to blame the other guy?
Stop it Pacquiao got smashed. You the worst kind of boxing fan. Pacquiao ain't nothing but a media created fraud.

it was a great fight to watch for me because the significance of the fight......the two best of this era fought and the debate on who the greatest of their generation was finally answer. manny coming out looking like a butthurt, excuse-making b1tch is just icing on the cake for me. it was great for boxing because manny's fake image was exposed and boxing fans now know the truth.
Oh, so other fights have left a horrible taste for boxing with the general public, so another one doesn't even matter at this point. No damage done, because it's already considered a dirty corrupt sport.
That is correct. There is no commissioner of boxing. Its always been a rogue sport. When the next superfight comes along everyone will dive in headfirst like this never happened.
So one guy can hold and run for 12 rounds and you want to blame the other guy?
but the other guy gets no blame for letting himself get hugged and not step back and push or punch Mayweather off of him by the way Hatton sucks
How much ban is in your thread?
Yeah Floyd threw more, I think they said 267 jabs, probably half actually had intentions of landing. Neither guy did a whole lot to make it entertaining, it was the both of them together. Pacs failure to be effective offensively and Floyd's failure to be more entertaining or have any showmanship. Was pretty forgettable performance by both. Oh well that's life, some fights are great some suck some are just ok. It happens.

FLOyD PERMANENTLY RUINED THE SPORT AND THE IMAGE OF THE SPORT. the SPORT WITH HIS BOXING STYE, AND THE IMAGE WITH HIS CHARACTER.
FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS THE ****TIEST CHAMPION IN HISTORY. FACT!!
Social media age:

They must be doing something way wrong, I have no way to explain how they just did 4 million PPV buys, the previous record was 2.4. Ruining boxing is an understatement.
Because the excuses and lying happened after the fight,do you think anyone would buy the fight if our bible reading congressman told us the truth before hand? He ripped off fight fans, lost the fight and did what he always does after he loses..cry like a lil bit**
