"The fight with Rodriguez is Lomachenko's first on a new five-year contract extension he, Klimas and Arum recently worked out."
IMO Loma is absolutely the future of this sport. Future P4P Number 1 if he can get the opponents in the ring. More than that I love the way Arum brings up fighters, if there is one thing he knows how to do, it's how to make a star.
I'm more concerned with his opponents, I think he's on the right side.
HBO: Walters, Gradovich, Vetyeka, Selby, Cuellar, Velez & all of 130
PBC: Mares, Russell Jr, Gonzalez, Santa Cruz
All of 130?
The only two fighters that matter in that division are Uchiyama and Miura, who fight (and make a lot) solely in Japan
He's been recovering from a hand/wrist injury from his last fight and had another injury to recover from after the Salido fight. He's 26/27, three fights a year is a fine pace for him.
i don't like how inactive lomachenko has been under top rank. a pro novice like him should really be fighting at least five times per annum, especially if they still intend to pad his record with the likes of gamalier rodriguez and that thai pacquiao fella. one quarter of 2015 has already passed us by and lomachenko is only just about to have his first outing. if he's only going to be fighting three times a year, it should be against better opponents than rodriguez
Weak hands too. His hand busted pretty easy against the Thai and had to fight one handed. Good enough against at the low levels, not sure about the elites of the world.

Lomachenko is a bonafide beast! He is a future #1 P4P fighter. He should learn English so he can maximize his earning potential. The kid has it all from a physical and mental standpoint.
Smh... bad decision. 5 years is a long-long time. How he know that TR will be still relevant 5 years from now? It's possible that it won't be...
Historically, they're a major player. No reason to think otherwise.
Does Haymon have any elite white fighters? Five years is a long time... He'll be confined to HBO unless there's a super-fight to be made... I'm surprised Golden Boy didn't try to get him... he could certainly be the next "golden boy" of boxing... Loma is the next ppv star IF the promoters don't F it up.
He's got a lot of prospects, likely 2-3 years from breaking through, of all nationalities, with even white fighters sprinkled in there.
I will bet any amount of money that a fetherweight, even one as talented as Lomachenko, never emerges as a PPV star, especially without speaking English and/or Spanish or having one-punch KO power.
Most of the fighters and big fights at Lomachenko's weight are already with Top Rank anyway, so not all that bad a deal for Lomachenko. Outside of Abner Mares, Loma has access to 20 of the 25 top fighters at the weight.
As long as he keeps injury free, busy and winning, he should do okay on the deal, significantly better than he'd do if he'd left, tbh (Haymon only has Mares, Russell Jr, and Gonzalez at the weight, with Santa Cruz thinking of coming up, so the pool isn't really that deep.
I'm unsure of what you mean by that post. Lomachenko is a great boxer. A treat for real boxing fans.
The point is, Haymon has had YEARS to develop an audience for what many felt proir to their fight was a similarly talnted, if not more talented, fighter in Gary Russell Jr., and he hasn't done it.
Fighting on the undercards of events like Bradley-Marquez, Chavez Jr.-Vera II, and Mayweather-Pacquiao is how you build an audience.
Unique circumstance.
Lomachenko has never headlined a card.
That's the best you got?
Gary Russell Jr....pro since January 2009
Vasyl Lomachenko....pro since October 2013
Loma's gonna regret that long of a deal with Arum I'd bet money on that. Loma shoulda went & talked to Miguel, Oscar & even Floyd before signing that deal since his plan is to become that big or bigger. Could get an early idea of what to watch out for or why not to sign for so damn long to TR. 5 years damn Loma.
Lomachenko's never going to be that big or bigger. He's a Ukrainian in the lower weight classes without a lot of power fighting 5,000 miles from home. Those guys have in-built PR, Mexican and African-American fanbases in the US.
I'm not that high on Top Rank, but HBO definitely looks like the right channel for his weight class in terms of opponents for the foreseeable.
War Loma! :boxing:
Bob will take great care of him. War Bob
Arum gonna rob Lomjango blind, he gonna git dat Rigo treatment.

People love throwing out Mares' name like it's all that.
It isn't.
The guy was a walkout bout his last fight.
that's what I'm saying, Mares and Santa Cruz aren't about real competition any more, they make Adonis Stevenson's competition look strong by comparison and his is weak.
