The mexicans in the WBC were quick to suspend AB for his mildly insensitive comment so there shouldn't be a double standard right? I personally don't think either should be suspended.
Suspensions in boxing make no sense, really. It doesn't really hurt or affect the boxer at all as they are most likely inactive in that period anyway. I suppose a fine would make more sense but in a way we blow out of proportion the actions of boxers. Do we really expect them to be morally sensitive, intelligent guys? They are fighters, not politicians. ALTHOUGH, I do agree we shouldn't just give a pass to fighters for their stupidity, ignorance, or doing things that put the sport into disrepute.
I suppose fines, a warning system and a potential long ban after multiple offences can be a good solution.
You know Floyd called Canelo a leprechaun, and i thought that was funny as fcuk. It always seems the guy crying the loudest is always the biggest racist of all, swag has issues as it's self evident he just can't let it go and move on
Broner got suspended for calling a mexican a mexican
And if anything, Broner said he didn't discriminate and that everybody can get it.
It wasn't racist but he should still have been suspended for being corny and a moron.
If there was a black sanctioning body he prob would be. Wbc was sensitive as fuk for nothing lol
Isn't that the IBF? I've heard it said before.
Anyway, neither should have been suspended imo.
Why is this a race issue? Stevenson actually does look like a monkey. Fukin look at him. You people need to stop b1tching.
I can see this being Kovalev's exact internal reaction when it all blew up
There is really no such thing as a suspension in boxing unless it's really long. Broner fought 4 months later after his.
Haha exactly. Remember when Chave Jr was "suspended" for pot?
Broner should have never been suspended for his comments and Kovalev should not be suspended for his...Broner is a jackass douche hood rat but we are going the wrong way when we continue to cave in to this ***** mentality when someone says something a very small minority of people deem "insensitive"..screw em...
Wow, dumbest thing i've ever read
Then read what the idiot below me posted.
So slavery is ok since we used to have slaves, gotcha :dunce:
You are so fucking pathetic dude. Comparing slavery to a boxing suspension for comments that were perceived to be racist.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Once you establish a precedent the only fair thing is to apply it in all future circumstances.

Broner shouldn't have been suspended but was. That establishes a precedent and the same thing should be done for all fighters who commit a similar infraction. As such, Kovalev should be suspended.
Two wrongs don't it right, but it makes it even.

Yeah ... even more wrong.
Broner shouldn't have been suspended and neither should Kovalev.
Both made "humorous" comments about opponents which may or may not have been intended as racial slurs. You have to give someone the benifit of the doubt in a situation like that.
Calling someone a monkey as an insult, or a joke, is quite common in many countries, eg, here in the UK, and doesn't usually have any link to that person's race at all.
