Would this mean Canelo was never that good to begin with? Or would it mean Kirklands better than we thought??
Do you think Canelo has to KO Kirkland to look impressive???
If Kirkland goes 12, will it mean more than a moral victory????
I always thought Kirkland was good. The second you start fighting Kirklands fight, things get bad quick. He's extremely good at applying pressure, and has power in both hands.
His stoppage against Angulo proved it to me, no one had even hurt ANgulo the way he did, and AFTER suffering a KD.
great determination and will, all he needs is to sharpen up a bit.
Going to be a great fight.
I think Kirkland has been lucky in his last high profile fights. Angulo gassed himself, Molina got a stupid DQ from a fight he was winning, and Tapia had horrible conditioning but showed he had the superior skill set. I see Canelo giving another Angulo type beatdown with the ref eventually having to step in to save Kirkland from himself.
Kirkland is very muscular and slow, very powerful too, I doubt he looks impressive in a loss. He will make Canelo look similar to the Canelo vs Angulo. Canelo will look very fast and agile, and will seem like one of the best boxers right now, but it's just that Kirkland is so slow and limited that Canelo will look great. He is very, very good, as good as Lara and Trout or any current top fighter in the sport excluding Mayweather, but Kirkland will make him look great.
People are uderselling Kirand here because of his little fluke loss against that one tall Asian dude. Canelo should win, but his power is certainly overrated and if Kirkland makes it into rds 3,4,5 then Canelo is in for something brutal IMO.
wouldn't call it a fluke. He got destroyed in 1 round.Hbo didn't even have a translator ready for the japanese guy.
I've always said that Kirkland has the style and power to cause one big upset at some point if he was giving the chance to fight more top fighters. Is this his chance?
I just think Kirkland is going to take too many shots in this fight and it might be a long night and frustrating for him if he lasts.
When this fight was made, Kirkland weighed over 200 pounds. Draining down to 155 in a matter of a few months will certainly have taken a lot out of him. I see no way in hell that he can get a win and it would be extremely good for him to go the distance. I think Canelo absolutely needs to dominate him in every part of the fight to give a good impression. I'm expecting an early stoppage, inside the first 6 rounds.
Kirkland is dangerous if he is the kirkland of old and can get past the first few rounds.. He could give canelo hell down the stretch if canelo drops his workrate and james finds his rythmn ..
Kirkland is the perfect type fighter for network TV..
This fight should look a lot like the canelo-angulo fight, but if Kirkland is competitive, canelo better hope it's a stellar fight like vargas-tito, cotto-margarito, jmm-manny 5, ruslan-Bradley, to save face
I agree Kirkland is good for TV, De La Hoya shouldve put this one on network TV. I think Kirklands inactivity will be his biggest downfall, people want to talk about his chin but even aganist Ishida he was getting up, thats a testament to his heart. Since Ann Wolfe isnt in his corner he should hire her to lay into his chin prefight to loosen it up. I wouldnt want to be hit dead on by that woman... hahaha
Its not going to happen. Kirkland is awful. How on earth he has gotten as far as he has is a miracle in itself.
He is like mayorga... Not skillful, but a lot of heart, power, and will to win
They both win by basically making opponents bytch out

the thing with the Japanese fighter was he was a very light hitting guy and destroyed Kirkland. people made a big deal because of kirklands chin
Kirkland takes a while to warm up and might get caught early. By the time he warms up he might take too much punishment. If he makes it to the 8th round and is active Canelo will be in trouble because he fights at a certain pace

For Kirkland, fighting Canelo is tantamount to Khan getting a Mayweather fight. It's the one he has always wanted. I expect him to show up ready and rarin' to go. There will be fireworks.
I am not ruling out Kirkland but I think he will ultimately take too much leather. Really looking forward to that one.
Kirkland should come out at the end looking good, because I think he will be seen as fighting valiantly.

I agree, the longer the fight goes, the better chance Kirkland has to get in some hard punches. Canelo has to be prepared to go 12 rounds, and not fade. That's if James is in shape.
The only concern is all the "ifs " with Kirkland. Will he be focus, in shape, and prepared. If the answer is yes, then Canelo could be in for a hard fight. This is the kinda fight that can mentally and physically ruin a fighter. James can crack.
With all that said, Canelo wins.
Not a chance in HELL.
Canelo has ALL the advantages.
Pros Canelo
Better chin
Better stamina "it sounds crazy, but Kirkland's stamina is not good either"
Faster hands
Better foot work
Better defense
Bigger following "judges assistance" "judges darling"
Pros Kirkland
Better inside fighter
Kirkland would need a KO to win this fight, and even then, the announcer might still say "by change of decision of commission" SAUL, CANELLLLLLLLLLO Alvarez
It would have been more telling if they had fought the first time the fight was brought up. Coming off a 1.5 year layoff with a different trainer I'm not sure how impressive an early knockout would be. I'd be much more impressed if Kirkland showed up obviously game and Canelo scored a late KO after a good back and forth.
Hard to triangle theory this fight because I don't think anyone Canelo beat would have Kirkland's number other than Lara and the Angulo's they fought were three years apart and obviously different fighters. Hell, the Angulo who fought Lara was a different fighter from what Canelo got.
Kirkland's lone loss was against Ishida, but it's important to mention that he had already fought three weeks prior and two weeks prior to that. He also didn't have Wolfe for that fight and looked soft...like he only made weight through extreme dehydration, which effects punch resistance and explains why a normally featherfisted fighter could do what he did.
Ishida has never replicated that performance before or since and seven months later you can see the difference in the first round onslaught of El Perro.
That's why it's an interesting matchup and there's no point in guessing for this one. Only thing to do is tune in. I do expect that if Kirkland looks like garbage Canelo won't get any credit though. We want competitive fights and if it disappoints the first thing people will mention is why he passed on Cotto.

Talk about a loaded question. So basically you are saying Canelo needs an impressive KO, or he isn't that good.
lol
If Kirkland shows up in good fighting shape, it's gonna be a long night for Canelo. I wanna see if he really tries to bang with Kirk. Mexican style like they like to say. Well, Kirkland can slug it out too so I wanna see how this plays out.
