Seems like every boxer/fan after Marquez KO'd Pacquiao thinks that they (or their fighter) can do the same. Why is this? Personally I think people are trying to take away from the greatness of both Marquez and Pacquiao. Just because someones a counter puncher or has power doesnt mean they can beat Pacquiao. It takes a special fighter to beat him. It took Marquez 4 freaken times to do what he did and in the fashion he did it in most fighters wouldve succomb to the beating before it happened. Sure there are other power punchers in boxing but I dont see any of them KO'ing guys like Marquez did to Pac, not even GGG, Ruslan, Maidana etc and the guys they do KO are not on Mannys level.
I just think people need to leave Marquez's victory alone, he's a different type of counter/precision puncher with the cajones to match the skill.
manny fought a bunch of counter punchers but marquez seems to be the only most successful one
its the way marquez counter punch when manny is still throwing bombs that gives him success
now if floyd can do that, it will benefit him
but if he does his shoulder roll while manny throwing bombs?
floyd does resort to his defense when getting attacked
I keep trying to say this. Mayweahter may be a better pure counter puncher than JMM, Mayweather will catch and shoot or counter off the back foot.
JMM will plant his feet and take some heat to land his own bombs. He fully commits with his counters.
Massive difference.
Will Mayweather sit down on his shots and take the risk to land a big shot? I doubt it.
It's just people digging for something.
It's like when people say "oh, look how much trouble Maidana gave Floyd. Pacquiao's gonna kill him"
One has nothing to do with the other. They're just reaching.
That one is really crazy. At least Mayweather and Marquez are counterpunchers. Maidana and Pacquiao are two completely different fighters. One is very physical and like to brawl, rough up and throw crazy head hunting punches. Pacquiao is absolutely petrified of fighting inside and too clean to foul.
Mayweather doesnt have the same mental fortitude. JMM was beaten up, his nose was broken, his face was a mess and he risked everything to land that punch.
Do yall think that Mayweather who was crying like a little ***** after Maidana "bit" him, has the same toughness? Floyd wont plant his feet in this fight...
See I wouldn't say, "Mayweather doesnt have the same mental fortitude" because we do not know this but he will need some of this to beat Manny convincingly but you never know. Im glad you acknowledged JMM mental fortitude though, helps prove my point, just because he did it doesnt mean everyone can.
I think it will be a huge mistake if floyd lays back looking for a huge counter ko shot.. Floyd needs to be aggressive behind the jab, especially to the body early and slow manny down and get him to box at a pace like he did in jmm 3. If floyd lays back, he poses the risk of letting manny dictate the pace and steal rounds with higher activity rate while floyd pulls a Bradley and just waits for the big shot..
It's gonna be nearly impossible to recreate what marquez did.. Floyd needs not to look for ko but just box and allow ko to come like the hatton ko with a check hook..
Bradley made a horrible mistake by trying to land the big ko on manny.. Floyd shouldn't make the same mistake..
The funny thing is that the punch manny landed when he iced hatton was nearly the same punch manny was attempting when marquez iced him.. huge left hand at the end of the round.. It's hard to recreate knockouts, and floyd would be better served fighting his normal game instead of trying to be a ko artist...

^^^This helps proves my point. Thank you!^^^ Different fighter/mentality of fighter so for people to take away Marquezs victory saying its easy to mimic takes away from his victory.
we got to take into account how Marquez and Pac will have got to know each other more with every fight, vastly increasing Marquez's chances of eventually catching Manny out. 4 fights is a lot, look at ward gatti by their 3rd, amazing fights, but they each had their moments and knock downs.

Actually after re-watching the first 3 fights numerous times, I had Pac winning the first, a draw the 2nd time, & Marquez winning the 3rd but I can agree with people having it other ways...
Ain't no way pacquiao won the first fight. Marquez pretty much won every round after the knockdowns.
Easy with the Hollywood stuff. JMM didn't sell out or go for broke, he timed Manny and KHTFO. Floyd could very easily do same-sit down and maximize power when he has the timing down.
But thats the point, he won't. Floyd won't sit down and more importantly he won't take the risk.

I agree but Floyd will have to sit down on his punches and be willing to take a couple to do so which we havent seen. Thats why I posted this, Marquez is a different fighter, true they are both counter punchers but have different dynamics both go into exchanges thinking very different.
Great points, different fighters with different approaches to counter punching.
