All you need to do is check out some of multiple fight breakdowns on Youtube, and he comes across really well. Somehow though, this doesn't transition over to commentating, and it's as I said before, commentators have to follow a certain playbook.
Does he though? Whenever I listen to Hopkins he takes ten minutes to make some inane, normally self-serving point that could just as easily have been made in ten seconds.
In the instantaneous world of live broadcasting that shit gets exposed for the empty waffle that it is.
Someone needs to tell him that just because it takes you ages to say something, it doesn't mean it's profound.
Commentators have to follow a certain script I've always thought, because of this Hopkins has to hold back a lot of what he really thinks which may give reason why he's so hesitant and slow to articulate himself.

it was a pitiful lennox lewis-like performance from bhop. roy is still (and still!) the best boxer commentator since george foreman.
Nope, that would be Tarver.

He's a crap commentator.
Hopkins only speaks fluidly when he's giving long-winded lectures about how smart he is.
I just wanted to say this ^^^ ........................................

:lol1: Is this a joke or what?
I loved George Foreman in the commentator role, but he wasn't very good at it. He was just a funny side-kick.
He had his moments, but certainly also had some blunders.
I wasn't impressed at all. From hearing Roy Jones doing the Crawford-Dulorme fight, it was a heavy step down for a commentator.
Focused too much on Matthysse, too little analysis and way too short sentences in the build up.
As I said, not impressed.

He's just not eloquent enough. If he approached it like how he would have a casual convo with peers at a barbershop perhaps he would sound more fluid. He's a guy who loves to hear himself talk and tries to sound smart but just doesn't quite pull it off.
