/thread sorry mistaken identity, Maidana bout starts in 3rd min . http://youtu.be/5A3AkAgzRQ0
New topic, why has Maidana been more successful even thiugh he's the lesser skilled and less explosive?
Lucas has only really 1 good win against Peterson. That fight could have given him good momentum going into the Garcia fight to go on to have a lot of success and more hype if he won but he simply lost to Garcia and it Lucas just stalled a bit.
He also lost to Judah and Alexander, and even if you feel should have been given the decision, he still didn't do look that convincing and they were very, very close fights. If he's as good as people thought, he shouldn't be allowing the judges to give Judah a possible win over him.
He's not quite as good as some people want to believe, he has a good punch but he's very beatable.
Thats how I ultimately feel. Harsh but i cant help but agree. I wish he had been good enough to blast devon judah and garcia. Figghters like him need to leave no doubt. I wish he was better than he has been. Would love it if he had erupted.
that doesn't look like matthysse i see maidana but maybe this was before his tats
there are three fights in the video. First, Maidana against some guy, then Matthysse against another guy and then the final Maidana vs Matthysse...
Maidana's hands are a good deal quicker than Matthysse's.
In terms of Maidana being more successful, it's not that long ago everyone was saying he was a bum and as good as finished.

It's because Maidana is on thr 147lb divison, when it's all said and done Lucas will have a better career.
they are not punchers gloves aka they are pillows and maidana didn't want to use the pillows. who cares if matthysse uses pillow gloves that just proves the guy can punch hard no matter what and its his choice to use the pillows, it wasn't maidanas choice to use the pillows. we don't know if maidana can punch hard in the pillow gloves but we know he can punch less hard in the pillows and that's what mattered to floyd. pillows!
Not arguing that, Maidana should be able to wear what he wants. Just saying they're not as bad as the grants.
Have you ever had an amateur bout? Pros use 8-10oz amateurs, amateur bouts use larger gloves than that. And Maidana did not use pillows for Floyd, he used powerlocks which are the same as Lucas' normal gloves. Their just not punchers gloves.

unless its floyd-maidana. same game. same pillows.

threads a joke.........they have 4 amateur fights in which maidana won 3 of 4. theres a draw in there. this video could be the draw.
also maidana tumbles over matthysse in the pros. when you start beating on matthysse he has much much worse punch resistance......and today maidana has a better jab more power & overall bigger fighter then lucas. if lucas thinks 140 pound molina put him down a bigger maidana would absolutely finish him.
Actually 3 wins and a draw for Maidana, I dont think anyonems disputing that but how does an amateur fight with pillows prove anything? Pro's are a whole different game.
unless its floyd-maidana. same game. same pillows.
I think both had it tough, you are right about Contursi but the difference might be that Maidana decided to train in the US with a top trainer. That's not a minor detail, i think that gave him more exposure and opened the door to bigger fights for Chino...
Very true, Robert Garcia has turned him into an animal in recent years
He is the machine cause he is relentless in the ring. Doesn't matter what you sre like outside the ring, Golovkin and the Klitschko's are gentlemen but in the ring they're killers. Matthysse came back to win vs Molina, he could have quit but he pummelled Molina for 11 rounds. Matthysse will hopefully show who's boss tonight.
The reason why Maidana has been successful is that whether you like it or not, he's had the easier route up. Matthysse has had to fight slick boxers like Judah and Alexander (whom I thought he beat). Every time he built moment, he ran into those type of fighters. Devon won every round vs Maidana and I have no doubt Matthysse would have beat Soto Karass, Lopez, Ortiz, Morales, Petrov and so on. I also think Contursi is a great promoter and has done the better matchmaking.

Since you're a big fan of Matthysee, help me with this. I might be completely mistaken, but I feel that Maidana is less skilled, more confident. At the of every fight, Lucas gets emotional when addressing his friends. It's almost as if he's the quiet guy who we all think is a "machine" but is really a complex guy, emotional, likes to think, and probably not as confident because he thinks too much. I see nothing of that in Chino who genuinely seems to give zero ****s.
I am probably over reading, but every time Lucas gets in trouble in the ring, he seems to doubt, while Chino rarely exhibits any kind of doubt.
I don't know. I am probably overreading this. I just don't understand why Matthysee--who is clearly more skilled and powerfull--has not had the success that he should have as opposed to Maidana.
is true what you say about lucas being emotional and chino really cold. marcos barely shows any emotions. but i think chino's succes is due to contursi management. lucas management is really poor.
On a side note, didn't Maidiana beat Matthysse 4 times in the amateurs? Google it and prove me wrong because I don't know actually but that's what I've heard.

Doesnt matter what you are outside the ring, before fight or after fight. What matters is what you are IN the ring. And Matthysse is no nice guy or pushover in the ring.
And the bold is the $1,000,000 question my friend.
I like both but I see Matthysse stopping him with a body shot. Matthysse's body work is relentless, he dropped Corley 8 times and most of them were body shots. And Maidana doesn't like getting his liver touched up.
