First, former unified junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan declined to challenge British countryman Kell Brook for his welterweight world title on June 13 in what would be a massive all-British showdown.
Then, Khan’s team also declined to participate in a mandated elimination bout with former titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. to produce Brook’s next mandatory challenger. That would have been understandable had Khan accepted the fight with Brook, therefore making the need for him to fight the eliminator unnecessary.
All along the rumor was Khan was instead going to fight on May 30 against former junior welterweight titlist Chris Algieri, whose last fight saw him knocked down six times in a horrible performance against Manny Pacquiao. And then Khan made a YouTube video saying Algieri was indeed going to be his next opponent. But that was before Khan almost immediately backtracked on the remarks.
That was two weeks ago and this is now, and guess what:
Khan-Algieri is slated to take place on May 29, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the fight. It will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and air on Spike TV as part of Khan adviser Al Haymon’s “Premier Boxing Champions” series.
Perhaps Khan already knew what was in the works when he tweeted on Saturday: “Would love to fight at the @barclayscenter in Brooklyn in the future. Great boxing venue.”
England’s Khan will be, by far, the biggest name to have been on Spike TV through its first three PBC cards.
Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs), 31, of Huntington, New York, has not fought since the November loss to Pacquiao and recently changed trainers, firing Tim Lane after Lane’s awful performance in the Pacquiao fight to train with John David Jackson. In the fight before the loss to Pacquiao, Algieri survived two knockdowns in the first round and terrible swollen eye to claim a split decision and a world title against Ruslan Provodnikov last June at Barclays Center.
Since getting knocked out by Danny Garcia in the fourth round and losing his junior welterweight in July 2012, Khan (30-3, 19 KOs), 28, has won four fights in a row. He is coming off a nearly flawless performance in a lopsided decision against former two-division titleholder Devon Alexander on Dec. 13 in Las Vegas.

Porter was fighting like an amateur in his early days. He had to find his style. He has a lot more power than Devon Alexander, and he's infinitely more aggressive. Does he have Chino power? No. But he has enough power to hurt Khan - which if we're honest - doesn't take a lot. he's also got a solid chin and comes forward all the time, which would be a nightmare for Khan.
You can look at KO history as much as you want - it's not changing anything.
Why do you keep saying Paulie was extremely shot? He came off arguably beating Adrien Broner and looked good doing it. So how can he be extremely shot? That makes no sense.
I agree with your last sentence. If they fought again, I think Brook would beat him more decisively even though I have trouble seeing Porter winning more than 3-4 rounds in their fight.
But styles makes fights. Take Mayweather - I think he would school Brook with ease, honestly. I think Khan would create a hell of a problem for him.
He has the same amount of power as Devon, give or take
He's no KO artists, thats all i am saying
If he had power, he'd have taken out the likes of Julio Diaz and his KO % wud be much higher and consistent
If Brook and Porter fight again, i think Brook will knock him out this time.
I also believe Porter isnt a "clean" fighter, they werent happy about being tested in the lead up to the Brook fight. Hern insisted that random testing take place, which was a good thing.
I got Khan beating Porter as well
and i also feel Thurmann will stop him or drop him a couple of times
Bradley vs Porter is a toss up, due to the way Tim fights, which might favor Porter
Lol@enough power
Porter is no Thurmann, he is no Maidana...He doesnt have raw power.
He has the same amount of power as Devon
You can look back at my posting history and see even before Porter jumped in the ring with Brook i mentioned he doesnt have the power
Porter : 25 Wins (KO 16)
Devon : 26 Wins (KO 14)
In his last 8 fights he has scored only 2 stoppages, one against a journeyman bum from Ecuador, and the other against a extremely shot version of Paulie.
Porter aint knocking Khan out, easy UD.
Porter also has no defense, he just runs in with his eyes closed, Khan wud have no problem taggin him
Brook hesitated against Porter, because it was a big occasion and he had to fight smart, but if he had let his hands go more, he wud have damaged him imo

Don't be surprised if Algieri boxes Khan up. He is too used to fighting over matched opponents who move in straight lines. Algieri has him beat in height and reach and moves around much more than anyone Khan has faced before. He thinks that just because Pac dogged him out, he will be able too as well but he won't be nearly as successful.
Beat in height and reach? He's like half an inch taller with one inch longer reach. Big deal.
Khan's going to brutalize the limited Algieri with no problems at all.
It is sort of a synonym for the phrase "Khanage". Brutally beating boxers down over 12 rounds like his last two opponents.
There was nothing brutal about his performance against Devon Alexander.

They shud put the fight on Channel 5 or ITV
Help Brook become a household name like Khan
Using Khan's name to stay relevant all these years wasn't enough?
Destroy UD? Never heard that expression before :lol1:
I'm curious to see if other people agree. I think Porter is all wrong for Khan and it would be suicide to go in with Porter.

You are retarded if you think that's true.
When is the last time Khan had a KO? I don't even remember. Zab Judah 4 years ago?
Shawn Porter has more than enough power to KO Khan.

he should've fought bradley
algieri and brook should fight each other.. they both need more than 1 good win
Just imagine they Khan fans if Brook had fought Algieri :lol1:
They would have been saying exactly the same thing they are saying about Gavin. Laughing and talking about cherrypicking. Guaranteed.
Is the O2 in London the middle of nowhere? :lol1:
You have reached spazz level with your latest comments.
It is when nobody is going to pay to watch him fight on Sky
Is he the main event?
Khans fighting in Barclays, on Al Haymons new venture with SpikeTv
Brook is fighting a nobody, in the middle of nowhere
Brook cud have fought Chaves, there were a number of boxers willing to come over in May.
No excuse for the title holder to fight a skinny kid who lost to Bundu
Khan was right, Brook simply wants the payday, and isnt willing to go through the gauntlet.

Porter has no power, hits about as hard as Algieri and Devon
Before he fought a extremely shot version of Paulie, who had Porter stopped? that was his first TKO in nearly 3 years
Yea KO'ing scrubs and journeyman is all good, but Porter is no KO artist, never was.
Porter has all the disadvantages going in with someone like Khan.
At least Petterson had Peds and a long reach
You are retarded if you think that's true.

Yes we can
Algieri is about 20 levels above the likes of Frankie Gavin.
Hern gave this song and dance about Khan fighting Algieri
Here was Herns opportunity to show Brook is willing to fight the best and then gives us Gavin. A number of decent opponents were available, willing to travel and fight in May.
Brook has spent his entire career facing Frankie Gavin level opponents, i guess he's not going to change a habit of a lifetime
A number of opponents like who?
Brook could probably not just fight at all in May. The reason Gavin was chosen is because he's British and Hearn needed a plot line to sell the PPV.
This isn't even Brook's big fight. That will be Rios in July. You know that so are you just trolling or do you enjoy looking like the biggest tit currently on the forum? Brook will probably fight another couple of times after that too
Khan fights twice a year because of Ramadan and he's wasting one of his big fights on Algieri.
And again KHAN TURNED DOWN BROOK you spastic.
This means that the Khan fanatics cannot criticize any Brook opponent.
What a cherry pick. Algieri's low KO record will continue to get him fights. Now they are going to try to sell it like it is Khan's most dangerous prime foe to date and ride his sole decent victory of Provo

Khan isn't going anywhere near a threat until he gets Mayweather/Pacquiao
Khan/Brook is such a natural eliminator for the May2 winner
Its a shame Brook might hurt Khan's chin. Itd be signed by now
