Agreed. Was Donaire special or is overhyped? I mean he does look very limited now after having fought elite fighters. Yet it is Rigo's ONLY biggest and best win.
Let's assume you are right and Kovalev was just condescending when he sparred. We'll never know, because these are assumptions, which can be true, but can be also false. Yet all LHW GGG spars with get knocked down consistently, including Kovalev. These are the facts, not speculations. And the whole point was that GGG is very powerful p4p which was argued by the likes of you.I think Donaire while still very good at 122 was at his absolute best a division or two down, and he is definitely past it now.He is the classic example of a guy that relies on athleticism and doesn't take care of his body.In spite of all of this an 85 percent Donaire is still light years ahead of any of Golovkins opponents.
He hasn't beaten anybody special yet ,I mean guys like Geale and Murray are probably his best wins.

Kovalev has said in an interview that he didn't want to seriously hurt Golovkin because they are friends. It should also be noted that Kovalev was out of shape while Golovkin was about to have a fight.

Floyd and Pac would take him to school. But in an "if" world anything happens. His lighter weight would make him faster and probably have more punch power and more stamina. He may outgun Pacquiao. Floyd still beats him.
Yet it was Kovalev who got jobbed and knocked down in sparring by GGG and not the other way around.
It's also easy to write off top contenders because after they fought GGG they are not the same anymore. Just like Donaire is perceived now overhyped but in reality he is what he is and Rigo took his soul.He hasn't beaten anybody special yet ,I mean guys like Geale and Murray are probably his best wins. His jab and ability to cut the ring off would make him a threat at any weight class. Those are the fundamentals for beating elusive boxers. Throw in his power, his chin, and his combination punching and he becomes a threat to anyone.
He has flaws. He's easy to hit and he's not very fast. But he has enough quality to be a problem for all but the very best.
He did not clearly beat Direll. Matthysse stopped a Peterson and Soto who had never been stopped before and who are also vastly better opponents than Macklin and Ishida. Like I said he has very good power, but he doesn't have Kovalev level power.

It really is, durable opponents who have never been stopped before get stopped inside 3 rounds. Tell Ishida and Macklin it's not one punch knockout power.
Golovkin only went to one Olympic games winning silver, before turning pro. Moreover he beat Dirrell clearly and fairly, the fight is on youtube.

Not just his resume just watch him fight. Plus his amazing amateur background. Rigondeaux didn't have much of a resume at all either when he whooped Donaire. Same thing people said before the fight too - "who did Rigondeaux ever beat as a pro?"
There's more to it than solely resume when judging talent obviously. When I watch him fight it's very obvious to me he's a better fighter than Matthysse and Maidana.
I have seen him fight and honestly he reminds me of a bigger, slightly more technical version of matthysse. I understand ggg had a great amateur background just like Rigo but Rigos win over Donaire is way better than any of ggg's wins probably combined considering Donaire was a p4p fighter at the time. Besides saying ggg would be a top ten fighter at 147 with names like Floyd Mayweather, manny Pacquiao, & Juan Manuel Marquez is pretty damn good considering ggg's opposition...
You're acting like that's the only thing he ever accomplished.
Gold 2003 Bangkok Middleweight
Asian Games
Gold 2002 Busan Light Middleweight
Asian Championships
Gold 2004 Puerto Princesa Middleweight
Silver 2004 Athens Middleweight
He consistently fought and beat top opposition throughout his amateur career.
I think gg KO dirrell in the amateurs no?
His power is not levels above those guys he has thudding power not one punch knockout power,If I recall correctly both Rigo and Loma were multiple time gold medalists while Golovkin with a very fortunate result against Direll was a silver medalist.

It is a slight because his power is a couple of levels above, as is his skill level.
People think Thurman is a hard punching WW, and he is, but turn it up a couple of levels and you'd get Golovkin. It would be very hard to deal with.
As to Lomachenko, his amateur record is 396-1. Rigo's is 374-12. Golovkin's is 345-5
Rigo has 2 gold medals could been 3 if cuba wasn't hating on him. I think rigo and Loma are levels above gg in boxing. But ggg has way morr power

I think him being compared to Matthysse and Maidana is not a slight it just means that his style wouldn't be as successful against the ultra competitive welterweights. Also why he was very good as an amateur he was never Rigo or Loma and to make that comparison is laughable.

golovkin is obviously better than maidana and lucas
Obviously how? Because GGG has some incredible resume?? Lol, ggg & his fans should appreciate his relatively easy weight division because if he had the level of comp at 160 that's at 147, ggg would be ranked in the upper top 10 at best.
