Just a question that popped into my mind after watching a Rocky marathon over the past weekend and watching footage of Leonard - Duran right now on YouTube...
When did they start using rings with four ropes instead of three? It looked odd in the Rocky movies and was wondering if anyone knew when and why they switched to four ropes from three. A bit of a change of direction from all the PBC threads lately. :)
I know it started because of the Emile Griffit and Benny Parret fight back in the sixties. I don't know when they all switched over. But it was sometime in the mid 80's that the change was done.
But it is because of a boxer falling out of the ring or them falling near the ropes and hitting their neck on the bottom rope.
