Okay, here we are 25 days away from what is the biggest fight in boxing, and it doesn't look like the "real fans" will get the opportunity to see the fight. The announcement that the tickets would be priced from $1500 to $7500 at the press conference, and people were chomping at the bit so to speak to get the tickets ASAP...However, news circulated that there would only be 1,000 tickets available to the public. Then came the long holdout for those people to buy the tickets, which still holds to this day.
Add to the fact that the PPV screenings are limited to MGM venues (which is the norm I've heard, but the way that it was announced wasn't good) and the undercard is below what should be expected, this event sounds like a money grab for all those involved instead of something that we will be talking about for years and years to come. I have friends that are now having second thoughts of going to Vegas because they most likely won't go to the fight itself and see not much use of going just to watch a screening at Mandalay Bay or something...
How does the NSB peeps feel about this? Specifically those who planned to go or are going to Vegas?
The whole closed circuit thing was never officially announced. TMZ just made a big story out of it and everybody ran with it. TMZ, who rarely if ever covers boxing fights. And yes that is the norm.
Honestly, I much rather pay 100-200 for a closed circuit viewing party than to pay 2000 for nosebleed seats. Those viewing parties, especially in a more intimate, smaller ballroom setting (as opposed to arena viewing like mandalay), are very fun to attend. The atmosphere will be great.
What pisses me off is that we are about 3 weeks away and not one word about any tickets or closed circuit. I hate doing things last minute so naturally It makes me nervous. Everybody is going to have to scramble.
But I won't let it stop me. I will watch on my phone in a casino bar If I have to lol

However, MGM's profits will not be limited to the Grand. In addition to sky-high room rates at other resorts, MGM has the exclusive closed-circuit broadcast rights to the fight. That means that gamblers and boxing fans who want to watch the fight on closed-circuit broadcast at a Vegas casino will have to do so at one of MGM's properties, such as the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, Mirage, Aria, Monte Carlo or New York-New York.

There will be thousands of closed circuit seats available in Las Vegas, but every last one of them will be inside an MGM Resorts-owned property. That means no watching the bout at venerable Las Vegas casino hotels such as Caesars Palace, Wynn Las Vegas or The Venetian.
It's a shame the promoters haven't done something truly special with this but it's no surprise. You very rarely see any innovation here.
That being said, I get the impression that Floyd took the decision very late in the day. I think it's just a case of getting it on for May 2nd and squeezing every penny they can using the standard model. The time to try to sell the fight elsewhere in the world to credible people, convince the fighters to leave their Vegas comfort zones (I know Manny has fought elsewhere but there's no question that he defaults to Vegas) or come up with a different broadcast plan.
Prefer to have a nice day at home or at a friends place watching it on a big screen.
Barbecue or a nice 3 course meal, beer or my favorite whiskey throughout the evening,...poker or dominoes... some chips or popcorn to snack on.
I'm preparing a menu...Think I'm gonna go crazy with
seared scallops
steak and lobster tail
and some dessert..
hhahahaha... i rather do this than watch it at some bar in vegas... That's just me. Though others may prefer a party atmosphere like in a bar or club.
I can understand some hard core fans wanting to see this potentially epic fight live, but for many, it just ain't gonna happen. Vegas is overrated anyway. The live price is stratospheric and exclusive. So screw getting all upset over it. Buy the PPV, get with some friends, cook out, eat, drink, laugh, watch the fight in HD on a widescreen tv. Have a great, safe time, and talk big sh1t on NSB the next day. Now that's living!

I agree! It is annoying me too and i also have backup plan already in place.
Hell if they allow you to buy online then that would be AWESOME! I have to travel with laptop so ill just take HDMI connections and party in room then hit up casino after.

The whole process is very strange and makes me have have some doubt whether this will even happen.

This was never for the fans, it was always for the money
Every step of the way. These two have pissed in the faces of fans for 5 years.
I just can't understand why people still care so much.
Mayweather====Vegas
Mayweather is a Vegas "cash cow" and it's his backyard or no fight!
Those are the rules and thats that. Mayweather couldn't give a damn about any fans including his. This is a business not a sport!

Id like to know also.
Im travelling from the uk. I went to Pac-Hatton years ago, and Vegas was amazing.
So i thought id go just for the atmosphere, and hoped there would be a slim chance id get a ticket somehow. Now i know i wont get a ticket, but thought id would be easy to watch it on closed circuit. But now its only showing in MGM hotels. That made me wish i hadnt booked my flight and hotel. But hopefully i'll find a decent bar.
It does p1ss me off that us boxing fans that have had to deal with all the nonsense between Pac and Floyd for years arent even getting a look in.
I didnt want to watch this fight at home at 4am on the internet like i do for every other fight. Im still looking forward to it. And thought id visit the grand canyon.
If you are from the UK, or in Europe/Asia..yea, I guess going to Vegas is preferable.. watching at 4 am is not the best.
If I was from the UK, yea..I'd go to Vegas too for the fight. Good luck. Hope you find a nice bar.

I think they priced everything so high to keep out those fans who do not know how to handle themselves and can't control their emotions.
No one wants this fight marred by BS or any of the celebs in attendance to be in an unsafe environment.
They want regular fans to buy ppv.
Just pay for the HD PPV, it's cheaper than going to vegas. This fight was not about the fans, this should've been clear to you like 4 years ago.
Sad but true.

I think they might even charge 20 dollars just to enter the weigh in. That would be messed up.
I heard that the weigh ins are closed off to fans. Is there any truth to this that Floyd said he wanted the weigh in to only have credited Media and no fans in attendance or is that just BS?

What's wrong with watching it on TV? Was this really one of the problems fans had with this fight when they asked for it? They can't see it in Vegas? :lol1:
Na, Texas is no good for big fights. Too much controversial sh?t happens there.
Floyd fans reduced to just being satisfied watching it on TV

this fight should have taken place at a much bigger venue. they could charge the tickets much cheaper and still make a HUGE profit because guaranteed the entire stadium would be PACKED. 100,000+ maxium at somewhere like cowboys stadium would make this fight feel more grand and make a ton of money.
mgm grand arena has a measly 15,000+ capacity at best. what a waste. this fight deserves a bigger venue. more people need to witness the greatness of manny pacquiao.

Also, unless you live in Vegas and/or have ticket to see this live, why would you go to Vegas to watch an event you could see at virtually any sports bar?
I don't get traveling to Vegas for CCTV. My plasma is good enough.
I don't understand this either. Going to Vegas for the fight...but not going to the fight, that would piss me off especially since 15,000+ people who are there will be going to it.
Anyhow I disagree with the OP, as long as the fight goes down on May 2nd core boxing fans are the winners because at least it will finally be over and done with.
