Cotto is in LA and began training with Roach for his june 6 fight. Gaby says the fight will be on HBO and the opponent will be announced at the end of the week. Is either Heiland or Geale.
"I take it in stride. I am still having trouble walking. When my knee warms up, I start to hobble"
that fight was a farce. he fought a guy who had trouble walking. moneyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Cant wait to see the Midleweight king back in action.
I respect Cotto a lot, but he's not the Middleweight King. GGG is the people's champ of the division regardless of who currently holds the official title.
I think we get Cotto vs Geale and Tureano Johnson vs Jorge Heiland on the undercard. Seems like a good double header.
That would be good, especially the undercard fight..
HBO do the right thing
- Geale's 2-2 , and got get brutally KO'd
- Heiland is on a 4 fight/4 knockout win streak
HBO do the right thing
hbo doesnt even care about cottos next fight, they will show it to secure the canelo fight...

HBO do the right thing
if that's case, then it should be heiland
at least he aint fighting on BET like his promtional stablemate ward, thats all I gotta say.
Do you know what BET stands for? Cotto doesnt fit the criteria. :lol1:

Until his opponent is officially announced, and the fight is confirmed by HBO, I would not count anything out.
Voluntary. You are getting worked up for what? Because you you can't press fast forward in life and confirm if Cotto will be "defending" his MW title against GGG after Geale or not? Again, as I got older, I became more patient. At 57, ( I am not holding it against you as I am no ageist prick looking for an angle on someone who happens to have been born before me,) I would expect you to be more rational and less impatient. It seems your issue with Cotto is not merely a general stance you have but rather a specific disdain for the kid.
Cotto is defending against a legit MW. Cotto is taking his voluntary defense. I don't see the issue. I don't know if GGG is next or not. So to get emotional about and cry for Cotto to vacate would seem premature.
Are you even paying attention to what you write and what people are replying to? You asked why I thought GGG needed to beat Cotto to be relevant. I posted to state that he does not need to beat Cotto or even to fight him at all. I did not post any complaint about Cotto's voluntary defense and I will not do so as long as it is not at a catchweight.
Yes, I am a bit impatient about it taking a year for Cotto to get his voluntary defense done. I think his excuses about Roach are invalid. Tough luck, get a different trainer.
I am tired of people dragging Ward into every post about GGG. The guy still hasn't gotten one tune up fight done yet. He is a non factor and not a middleweight. The only conversations that should involve Ward are those asking why HE has not moved up to 175 yet instead of waiting to fight a middleweight.
On another note, I didn't know Provodnikov was also working with Gavin McMillon for strength and conditioning. With that in mind, I think he will be an even tougher fight for Matthysse. I am a fan of both and was tipping Lucas to win, but now knowing this new info, it makes it even closer. Provodnikov still has trouble staying disciplined and falls into habits of following guys he's pressuring, instead of cutting off the ring. His conditioning should be great, but he needs to learn to adjust mid-fight to be successful.
I been took you off ignore... :bottle:
as for the upcoming fight dont know im not in the cotto camp. Funny how ya b^tching about the martinez catchweight when martinez defended that very same belt at a catchweight of 158 lbs.
I'll complain about any catchweight title fight no matter who demands the catchweight. GGG did not ask for one in the contract to fight JCC Jr. at SMW but if he was to ask for one to fight Ward for Ward's title, I would be all over him for it. I do not consider catchweight fights to be proper title fights. No title at stake? I don't care. Title at stake? Be a man and defend it or challenge for it at the proper weight class. If you can only make 155 and your opponent can hit 160, tough luck for you. They are both equally legal weights in the MW division and maybe you should think of fighting in a division more suited to your physique.
No exceptions.
It's just a bit curious how you state that Cotto beat a "cripple" to win the 160lb belt, but you somehow think that GGG needs to beat Cotto for some MW relevance. If you sincerely believe Cotto beat a "cripple" in Martinez, then why the burning desire to see GGG vs Cotto? Is Cotto not worthy but somehow worthy? Why not wish a more competetive fight for GGG such as Ward? I know you are going to reply by saying that GGG is somehow more awesome by fighting the smaller Cotto as opposed to taking on the bigger Ward but I think this math only works in your universe. I think deep down, the very people claiming Cotto sucks, are secret admirers. :boxing:
How many times do I have to say this... I have no interest is seeing a GGG - Cotto fight. It would be a total mismatch and more of a straight beat down than anything else. I would prefer to see Cotto vacate his title and not get his face beat in. But Cotto holds a MW title, the LINEAL title, and he should either defend it against his mandatory, GGG, or drop it. Ward is not a MW and I do not even consider him to be a champion at SMW. There is nothing to be gained in a fight with Ward, no money and no prestige in beating a guy who has had two fights in three and a half years.
But that being said, I have no objections at all to a fight with Ward once Ward says he is ready and that fight is more profitable than any fight at MW. Right now, Ward cannot even get a fight booked on either HBO or Showtime and is a total non factor in boxing. Let me know when he gets back in the game and is ready for some good competition.
Both are credible fights. Why do you favor Geale over Cotto? I can understand Heiland because of his style but Geale?
High volume, good movement, and durable. He brings some similar intangibles that Trout brought. He's shown to be tenacious in some of his past fights with Sturm, Sylvester, and Adama. If you sting him he won't wilt. The fight I'm most concerned with for Geale was against Barker. He looked uncharacteristically lost for long stretches. Stylistically Golovkin was always a bad match up for him and Golovkin would always wade through Geal's flurries to land.
I agree with Hougigo this is a distance fight, but I'll favor the bigger and less worn man.
