Beterbiev and Kovalev are getting all the hype at 175 atm (and rightly so), but this guy is going under the radar, he's a real talent. Skillwise I think he's better than the other two, he doesn't hit as hard as them but he's technically cleaner. Beterbiev and Kovalev may well have styles better suited to succeeding at a pro level, but I have no doubt this guy will also go on to do great things.
But like Beterbiev he's already 30 so he needs to be brought along at a quicker pace, against better opposition. He has an amazing amateur background so there's not much more he can learn.
I say throw Campillo in there with him next and then a couple of lower top 10 guys by the end of the year. By next year, he should be ready for anyone at 175.
just watched couple minutes of the gvodzyk vs mekh fight posted on first page .i dont see the level of skills you are raving about
he is physically sound but have to mention that he is from russia and their athletes have a history of PEDs
gvodzyk is better
LOL, sh^t that wasn't on his boxrec yesterday or even a scheduled fight that hadn't been updated...weird.
So that draw got him dropped by TR then? And why hasn't he fought in so long?
No idea he hasn't fought in so long, not Russian so don't understand his interviews, think he must have talked about in Russian interviews. Any Russki's know?
Not sure if he's still with Top Rank either... doubt it.. he's not with that big time Russian manager Vlad Kornilov anymore though
He looked terrible yesterday, he's going to get iced badly when he next steps up in class. He looks very weak body wise compared to his 2012 Olympic days where he looked more ripped and much stronger.

Mekhontsev is my boy, he is a mini Rakhim!
Tbf though I don't give a sh*t Egor, Grovz, Beterbiev, Stevenson & Kovalev are all beasts! I love it, truly. LHW is heating up. That talent gets me excited. Egor is my boy, I think he may have the highest ceiling but sh*t boxing fans, This is why I love this sport! They are all bad boys lol, for real!
Yep Mekhontsev is probably my favourite fighter at 175, I feel he's the most skillful and versatile guy. Can fight going backwards and be the aggressor, he cuts the ring off brilliantly.
Big fan of Beterbiev as well and of course Kova.

Ya it was an entertaining fight Mekhontsev had won gold at the previous world championships in 2009 while this was the first major tournament Gvozdyk had competed at as Ukraine's #1 you can tell he's nervous in the first round. At the 2012 Olympics Gvozdyk got robbed against Niyazymbetov in the semis and beat him more convincingly than Egor did in the finals i wanted to see them fight for the gold pretty bad.
Egor looked exceptional in his other fights though particularly against Hooper and Falcao who had upset Cuba's reigning world champion Julio La Cruz. Gvozdyk also fought in WSB for two seasons going 9-0 and knocking out several world class opponents. I can't wait to see those four guys battle it out as pros the division is going to be the deepest it has been since the late 70's early 80's and they all have exciting styles.
I watched the links you posted, Gvozdyk does some very good body work.
By the start of next year, 175 could become the best weight class in the sport. It's absolutely loaded with talent.
Just realised I was mistaken about him beating Hydarov :/
Gvozdyk looks top class as well. I will watch the links you posted. I haven't seen as much of him as I have of Mekhontsev.
Here's a link to their fight in fight in 2011, very close and competitive:

Mekhontsev is a real talent but i think Gvozdyk has looked better as a pro so far, is younger, trained by Roberto Garcia and being moved a little faster. Those four along with Gonzalez, Shabranskyy, Alavarez, Berrera, Salamov, Bektemirov 175 is going to thee division in a year or so.

You must really hate Campillo, don't you?
I've seen Egor on a few TR undercards, and I like what I've seen. Like Freedom, I question how good TR will be for his long-term career though. Egor would really benefit from free TV exposure like Kovalev did.
Hopefully Top Rank gets Mekhontsev and Gvozdyk on their Tru TV cards. Pretty sure their other light heavy Monaghan is on one but he isn't the same quality as the other two just easier to promoter because he's an Irish-American.

Mekhontsev made the mistake of signing with Top Rank. They'll ruin him like they did Korobov.
He should have signed with Haymon, K-2, or Golden Boy.
Yeah they gotta do a better job with him, look at the amount of hype Beterbiev is getting compared to him. They need to start feeding him better opponents and up their promotion game
^^ Probably Mekhontsev's standout win in the amateurs. Usyk is one of the best amateurs of recent times and bigger than Egor.
He's also got wins over guys like Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, Haydarov etc who are elite.
