Guerrero had only fought once in almost two years and when he fought, he was badly hurt in outpointing Yoshihiro Kamegai, an average boxer with no special achievements except a high KO percentage. Thurman was going to beat Guerrero before their fight even started, he was completely shot...
I believe he came all the way up from Featherweight.
I personally believe the new brawling style he adopted at the higher weights is what did him in. No real significant power to secure KO victories if ever he fell behind on the cards and not tactical enough to outbox a mover. Meh.
He lost every single round against Thurman until he started to close the distance and make it an in-fighting brawl though.
I truly believe that Thurman is a legitimate threat to beat anybody in and around the weight class. Anybody. He may not be a favorite against any and everybody (although he would against most)...but he damn sure is a serious threat.
Agreed. Thurman is a beast and his killa intentions make it fun to watch him fight.
Don't think he's shot, he is small for weight class, plus Thurman is huge for class and also prime (no wars, very little wear and tear).
if Guerrero was shot, he would have got KO'd in the 9th, or stopped at some point, instead he fought back hard and Thurman decided to not go for the kill.
Someone said he is similar to Brandon Rios, both are tough, game fighters but small for the class, it would actually be a good war, good offense, poor defense and granite chins, make it happen.

No way shot at all. Just simply not as good a welter as people might of thought. Thurmans win over him made him legit. He showed he belongs at the top.
I don't think Guerrero is completely shot, and I do still think Thurman's (for the most part) domination of Guerrero was impressive. Guerrero had some brief moments late but he got his ass kicked.
Now that said, Guerrero is clearly on the way down. And fast. He was completely outclassed by miles by Floyd. Not exactly a surprise, but I think more people expected a game effort from Robert that fight. But he didn't even belong in the same ring after watching that fight, much less having a legit chance to make it somewhat interesting. And then he followed that fight up by going absolute life & death with Kamegai, which was even more telling than getting embarrassed by Floyd.
Now toss in an ass whooping by Thurman, and yeah, I think Guerrero's days at the top level are done. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Guerrero is basically Brandon Rios right now. They're both entertaining, moderately powered, come forward face first phone booth brawlers with little defense. In fact I'd go as far as saying that Rios is actually the better fighter overall right now, because I think Bam Bam has a shade or two more in the power department than Guerrero.
Guerrero wasn't shot, he's simply not that good at Welterweight. His three wins at Welterweight are all life-and-death wars against fairly limited opponents and his two losses to Floyd and Thurman were blowouts. Now Floyd is obviously great and Thurman is very good so there's no shame there despite the one-sided nature of those fights, but the three wins are more telling. He struggled to beat Aydin(who has since lost to JSK and Postol), struggled to beat Berto(who has since lost to JSK), and struggled to beat Kamegai(who was just badly outboxed by Gomez). You have to praise The Ghost for his toughness and heart but he's basically a top 20 or so level Welterweight, if that. He just gets more hype because of his backstory and the Floyd fight.
that's all floyd.
ppl are never the same after floyd destroys them.
hatton, cotto, delahoya, gatti, mosley, castillo, judah, corrales.... list goes on.
after floyd, they all became shot.
floyd embarasses you and takes your soul.
canelo will never reach his full potential.
pacquiao's career is done after may.
That was a good win for Thurman, I want to see Porter/Brook/Maidana next
Khan and Brook need to fight each other before they fight anyone else, we need to see who the English champ is. However, Thurman against Maidana or Porter would be awesome, I can only agree to that.
He's not the same fighter at 147 that he was at the lower weights.
This, Guerrero was never any good at 147.
Thurman on the other hand, very much is which is why he pretty much shut him out.

u really wanna bring this asinine argument up now?
srsly?
Guerrero doesn't have the power at the higher weights, comes to weigh ins looking soft. if he dropped back down, and given his ability to take a shot from one of the biggest punchers out weighin you by 15 odd pound, he could give alot of people problems.
And that's not Thurman's fault, even to an extent i cant really blame Guerrero, sometimes you have to go where the money is at his age, and thats 147-154 for him.
guerrero went life and death with a guy who just lost to an even more shot gomez :lol1:
Guerrero was way over hyped. Good fighter yes... world beater hell nah
On top of that he came up from lightweight to welterweight.

Guerrero simply picked up an ineffective style considering his power at 147 and ran with it. Sure it produced two decent wins but against any fighter with movement, I doubt Guerrero would ever have any success with this brawling style, considering how a KO would be highly unlikely.
