Cotto has always had an issue with people who put constant pressure on him and never let up. The weight might've factored in, but the pressure is what ****ed him up. Not to mention he had the wrong gameplan facing manny because I guess he felt he could bully him or be too strong.
Yeah, Cotto was without a doubt in the best shape he had EVER been in heading into that fight. He even stated as such when interviewed. He thought that there was no way that Pac could beat him.
Best shape he had EVER been in? Thanks for this laugh. He was a drained toothpick in this fight and money made him take it at that weight when he should have passed. Theres an article where Manny states weight played a big part in the fight too.
my gameplan would have been use his right as a jab with his left ****ed to throw when pac comes.
he was using his power hand for jabbing. which was a waste especially since pac was going over it tagging him.
he was trading jabs with pacs hooks and lefts.
Wrong type of jab and without a right hand to add to it, all it did was make him more vulnerable. Stepping in with the jab is a beautiful thing but that shit got Cotto killed.
No he wasn't physically drained, but I think mentally he wasn't the same Cotto cuz he was coming off a humiliating loss to Margarito where he got cut up and later a knock out drag out with B- level Clottey, he was very uncertain of himself coming into the fight. That's just my opinion, I think Cotto should've taken a long break after the Margarito fight then come back and beat some B level guy then get a rematch with Margarito to regain that confidence back before he fought Pacquiao, I think the Pacquiao fight was too soon.
The real question here should be: was Pacquiao using PEDs at that time? is this how he got his ear drum busted against Cotto and didn't even flinch and just kept walking through the punches of the much bigger stronger Cotto? this is the important question especially cuz this is the year when Pacquiao refused to take the test!
That was the main reason why I didn't give Cotto much of a chance in that fight.
Cotto's approach entirely was nothing less than stupid, I understand that he didn't possess the tools to win regardless but he didn't help himself. His body attack was too one dimensional, same repetitive left hook which Pacquiao successfully guarded against, on top of that he never angled himself in a way in which he could have targeted the mid section with the left hook. Cotto's right hand was never purposeful, I understand not being able to target the head but the body was available when Pacquiao was cornered, not even a solid jab to the body either.
1:50 still kills me, that's almost embarrassing :nonono: :nonono:
Then again that's what separates the very good from the great.
I am against the idea of discussing if a fighter was drained or not. It's completely irrelevant. No one made him take the fight or agree to the weight. The guy signed up to fight at the weight and made the weight. Almost all fighters have to cut to some degree or another to make weight for a fight, but only when they lose do we talk about it possibly affecting them or being somehow unfair. I especially see this logic applied be guys only when its to the fighters they like... drives me fucking nuts.
Brandon Rios was weight drained against Murray and Alvarado, and he still kicked their fucking asses, man.
While agree with what you are getting at but the issue that sometimes happens is that the B-side has to make concessions and feels like he has no choice. That is, the A-side saying take it or I move on to the next sucker that will give in.
I want to see the best of both fighters.
Where I agree with you is when both sides mutually agree with certain conditions that may backfire on one of them. They agreed so tough bananas. So in these situations, I am a fan and rather see a fight than no fight. So if fighters agree to a CW or whatever the issue may be, no problem.

Cotto held a 154 title , Manny came out and called him out , Cotto said no problems no CW and Manny said no fight and tried to make another CW .
Was happy to go at 147 while Cotto held a 154 title , why did he refuse 147 for the 147 title that Cotto held , he just fought Oscar at 147 , but Cotto must be 145 .
Manny has been the biggest manipulator of weight off any champion in the history of the sport .
Guess what this fight is not a CW and Floyd wont be weakened and is not coming from JWW , you all will see how that works out on May 2nd , if you are right Manny should kill Floyd if Im right it will be Floyd doing the dominating .
You are not getting it. Cotto, who held a title at 154, wanted the same CW against Margarito that Manny requested. Again, Cotto requested the same CW.
Like Cotto himself said before, during and after the fight, it was not the weight but it was Manny's speed and angles. Punches were coming from everywhere and Cotto wasn;t seeing them.
When Cotto was questioned, he laughed at that question and brought up his previous fights where he made 146 easily.
Funny that Canelo complained and complained about 152 CW and you say that it's different while blocking your ears at what Canelo had to say about his struggles with making 152. Oh yeah, Canelo AND Floyd held 154 titles.
Cotto was drained. Pacquiao walked away from a rematch because he didn't want to fight a 100% Cotto at 154.
Cotto didn't complain before, during and right after the fight. There are interviews of him laughing at the people who bring it up and Cotto's response would be "you know that I weighed 146 against Clottey and made the weight easily"
on the other hand if you think that Cotto was then Canelo was certainly weight drained.
Canelo complained before signing with Floyd, during training camp and in his past fights, he struggles to even make 154 let alone 152 and comes in at 155.
Cotto's lack of a right hand was enough to know he wasn't gonna win and definitely not against that version of Pacquiao. It didn't require much thinking really.

You're always trying to discredit Manny yet he's the main reason for Marquez's fame and best fighter on his resume by far...
Must be a race/flag thing.
I consider that one of Pacquiao's best wins, how am I discrediting it by making an obvious observation?
Probably. Just like Floyd when Pac was the A side he did what he had to do to get an advantage and Cotto had no leverage. I do believe that even if the fight was at the full 147 limit Cotto still would have been beat easily by that version of Pacquiao. He just had too much speed for Cotto.
cotto is a good but nothing special fighter.
problem is cotto and a FEW of his boyfriends think he's great.
hence they find so many excuses for his ass whoopings.
marg had plaster. no proof.
cotto was weight drained against pac. he wasn't.
pac was on peds. no proof.
mayweather fight was close. it wasn't.
trout fight didn't happen.

Who knows....
However, you knew Cotto was in trouble when he looked smaller than Manny at the weigh in.

pac is wearing shoes. cotto isn't.
those shoes probably give pac and inch or two.
pac came as he was at the weigh in.
cotto rehydrated for the fight.

most fighters are weight drained , it justs of matter of how weight drained they are. cotto simply couldnt keep up with mannys speed and thats what lost him the fight
