Firstly, I know this in an extremely subjective thread and that 'best' is extremely difficult to fit a win to. But if you had to rate a win which would be the best of all time? Douglas over Tyson was huge as an upset, LaMotta over a prime SRR is hugely impressive as is Frazier over Ali while Hagler's over Hearns is impressive for the manner in which he did it. So, best win of all time?
Louis KO'ing Schmeling in the second fight. ONCE AGAIN, it was more than just a sporting events. It was countries, races, creeds against one another. When the President of the United States asks you to win for your country, it's big....REAL big.
There are too many great wins to chose from and probably nobody on here has seen more than about ten percent of boxing's great wins. I'll go with Dempsey's win over Willard just for the hell of it.
Leonard over Hagler/Hearns
Duran over Leonard.
Frazier over Ali.
I don't like putting major upset wins in there because most of the time it can be attributed to the a-side taking the fight lightly.
Spinks defeats Ali!!!
For a 9 fight pro to beat Ali convincingly was impressive and the odds of this happening was unheard of. Fortunetly for Spinks Ali trained for 10 days to shed a few pounds and figured he would take the kid into the deep waters then drown him.
Well Spinks could swim and in fact beat up an out of shape ATG and deserved the victory. Spinks also beat Mike Dokes for the USA Nationals then stopped the legendary Sixto Seria from Cuba for the Gold then beats up the ATG Ali for the pro gold, pretty impressive for Leon. WhoooooRaaaa Marines.
Leons mismanagement and poor choices are the sadest thing I've ever seen in boxing other than the loss of life in the ring.
He truely was against all odds in his life and hope he has some peace of mind now. He is easily my favorite all time amateur boxer, his wins against the ATG's in the amateurs is unmatched in boxing.
Best to the Champ!!!! :boxing: Spinks Jinx!!!
Ray.
