I'm pretty sure one of the reasons for lack of entourage is because it was live network TV.. That stuff has to be pg-13.. You can't have a bunch of unknown characters parading into the ring. God knows what the mics would pick up...
Can you imagine Norman stone on one of these cards.. The networks and censors would go crazy...
Remember a few years ago the little fight mayhem miller got into during the post fight interviews when CBS was airing prime time mma... The networks flipped out and was suspending and banning fighters... And that was a very tame incident compared to boxing's hijinks
This is why I kinda don't like boxing being on network TV,, boxing is an adult sport and should be rated -R, and that's why it's so much better on hbo and showtime.. It's not the watered down pg-13 version, and we miss nearly all the between rounds corner talk which is usually always entertaining
I first got into boxing because when I was a kid and randomly channel surfing, i saw this boxer (forgot who) walked out into the ring, with an intimidating music and his entourage behind him with a flag. The walk to the ring was long, but it felt like someone was going to war. People behind him with flags, and giant body guards, it felt like this person is really ****ing dangerous.
The music added to that kind of feeling.
I know it's not a part of boxing and it's not important, but it drew me in as a kid, and it felt like it's not a game show, but something that borders between life and death.
Sorry, that's how I feel about all this. I'm just happy boxing is on TV.
This is exactly how i feel about the ring walks!!!!!
Good night of fights overall. Americans like to find fault in any and everything. All of these negative over the top comments are unnecessary. This was the first show on NBC in over 30yrs. Why hasn't anything mentioned this fact? Smh. I am excited we have boxing back on primetime television. What you have to understand, is that this is "regular" television. Boxing is an uncensored sport so they have to adjust to that format. Understand? No profanity. No explicit music. The fighter's have to behave a certain way because little kids and future boxing fans are watching their every move. Al Haymon is trying to showcase a classier approach and viewing experience for the fans. It's the alternative to what we see on cable television, so give it a chance. I think that fighter's should be allowed to enter to their own music, but it has to be CLEAN. I like the no entourage approach. I liked Layla Ali's reporting from the corners. I also liked SRL's commentating. He's very intelligent and says the right things about what is happening in the ring. For instance, he saw an opening for a left hook to the body and then to the head, during the Broner/Molina fight. He wanted Broner to try that combination. Let's give the PBC some time before we shoot down their attempt at a classier broadcast and viewing of the sport we love. And remember, in most cases, change is good.
Sugar ray was awesome he is better than Roy and Paulie he actually makes sense with what he is saying.

What changes would you make, thus far? Remember, we have another PBC showing next Saturday night on Spike TV. Berto/Lopez. Porter.
Being on network TV, the only real change that could improve it is replacing the announcers. Like somebody else said, all three sounded like robots. I've always like Marv anyway and you could tell he was the only real professional announcing. I didn't like the entrances but that wasn't a big deal. It comes down I'd rather watch it on HBO or Showtime. The commercials bothered me the most. It's the same reason I now only watch shows on on HBO, etc or worst case DVR it. Network boxing is better than no boxing but I don't want it replacing it on cable either.
GOD-Fr33, I usually agree with your opinion but SRL and Layla Ali were not good. Ray kept saying how impressed with Molina he was. Really? I couldn't believe he was just standing there.
Glad we had the fights and I understand it needs to be clean on network TV but these fights could easily be on HBO and Showtime. Boxing isn't a clean sport so maybe it shouldn't be on network TV. I'd compare it to watered down movies edited for TV. They just aren't as good.

Good post. I agree completely.
Why would anyone want to see entourages?
I can't believe what I'm reading here
Weebs is the only one making sense here
It's not like we really like entourages but it's just more what we are use to. I hated coming out solo. Felt cheap and kind of like an entrance in a stupid show like American Gladiator or something.
Love SRL but he was terrible as color commentator. I use to like Marv Albert but he was just "ok". Maybe he's too old now. Ali's daughter, slow and monotone voice, drove me crazy.
Worst of all was John Molina, who should never be on television again after that turd.
Actually worse of all was all the commercials. I like seeing replays and the corner action between rounds. I like big name fights but I'd rather psy for Showtime and HBO than network TV.
Yeah, when they cut broner off, that was really lame...
Boxing is built on characters and personalities... It's the number one factor if people will watch... Does a potential audience know your name or can you be memorable enough... People watch fighters they know, watch teams they know, etc..
Especially casual fans... I for instance am a longtime mma fan but consider myself casual, but I will tune in or even watch 2nd rate late night cable mma if there is a name fighter I recognize from pride or ufc, like Melvin manhoef..
You can't hold back guys like broner.. The sport needs him to be loud and bold
Just another reason why Fury will soon be the face of boxing.
WAR FURY!!
Everything u said was very true. But u have to give up some things to make others possible.
Basically this. Good post. The sacrifices are worth it if it brings more casuals to boxing.
It was a crap show honestly. Thurman-Guerrero was good, everything else was unnecessary. The cheesy over-production, crappy replay with the "new" low res cameras with too many commentators sounding like robots. You don't need all of the excess crap, the fights should speak for themselves. The way they have to repeat "boxing is back on network tv" is like they're trying to have to convince people it's good rather than letting the even speak for itself.
Let's break it down........

Entourage is USELESS to be honest but I would at least have him walk down with his Trainer
They want it to be 100% About the Fighters though so While it looks weird I can live with it. Fans usually b1tch about Sam Watson and his sons always being in the ring for no reason. When they get rid of them now everybody wants the entourages back :lol1:
I feel its the vibe you get from seeing the fighter walk in his with crowd. The fighter is obviously comfortable with it.
I mean I don't think they would deny Bieber walking down w/ Floyd if they were on PBC :lol1:

Ffs these guy's haven't had a boxing match for 30 years...even champs get tune up bouts. Give them a couple shows to get their act in order.
Thank you! Marv hasn't called a boxing match in 30 years, SRL hasn't called one period, chill! And Laila was not nearly as bad as people make it. While I agree that they should add one more commentator to the team to balance things a bit, give these guys a chance. I thought that overall it was a good show. Let's give them a few shows to work out the kinks.
Pavlik's entourage of neo-nazi skinheads would never be let within a mile of NBC's cameras lol.
Think I watched every ps like fight and I do not remember one incident with his entourage nor did I ever see an nazis....
