Cotto is not big enough. He really has no business fighting at 160. GGG is bigger stronger and would just walk him down and stop Cotto in brutal fashion. It's a mis-match and would be very one-sided.
true but the fight will never be made at 160. GGG would be dropping down to 157ish which could play a factor.
I like Cotto, he's one of my favorite fighters but there's no way he beats GGG. Not even with Roach. I know it, Cotto knows it, you know it, GGG knows, and everyone with a little sense knows it.
Haha! I agree with everything you stated! Miguel is also one of my favorites.
Picture Cotto against Margarito (the first time).
Then imagine Margarito hitting Cotto with plaster in his gloves.
That's what a Cotto-Golovkin fight would look like.
I know, its Crazy talk.... Unless Cotto screws off in camp, (which can happen) I think he takes GGG... But I think its anyone's fight...
Why do you think that?
GGG has every advantage except speed I'd say. Cotto may look ok early but once GGG cuts the ring off and catches up with him he would destroy him. He's too strong, has a great jab, goes to the body like Cotto did in his prime, throws every punch in the book with both hands with power...I just don't see any way Cotto survives 12 rounds without getting beat up badly...
Too short, too small for GGG, his defensive flaws he got away with at 147-154, would be a lot different when a guy weighing in at 173-175lbs on fight night takes advantage of those flaws.
Remember Cotto trying to outbox a grossly shot and injured Margarito in the rematch, and still being bothered by Margarito's pressure and ability to take a punch? And Margarito actually coming on strong at the very end? Okay now imagine that x10 against a much fresher fighter, natural MW, with more power, same height as Margarito but slightly bigger on FN.
I think Cotto can offer some push back. Make a competitive fight. But I'm not sure Cotto could last 12 rounds. Cottos always been a bleeder and he would get busted up bad.
Cotto is a true 147 fighter. Beating up a man with no knees or balance doesn't equate to beating other middleweights. Cotto would run and still wouldn't see the final bell.
I'd actually be very surprised if it goes to distance.
I cannot see Cotto winning by K.O. , and I don't think he can survive 12 rounds with GGG , let alone get the nod.

GGG gravy train will be here any sec.

Cotto did look pretty good against Martinez but GGG is a whole different animal. Martinez definitely couldn't move his legs as much as he usually does. He was taking shots from Cotto that he shouldn't had. Some people say that Martinez was never the same after the knockdown but Martinez has been knocked down worse but was fine after.
Cotto might do fine the first few rounds but GGG is too much for Miguel.
