I'll admit that I've never listened to a full Kanye West album. I've heard quite a few of his songs though and thought they were absolutely horrendous so it didn't exactly encourage me to check out the albums. It's not what I would consider "hip-hop" but maybe I've lost touch. Listen to his older stuff on youtube, College Dropout ot Late Registration. Of course don't wait gritty hardcore street hip-hop but they are mainstream in the best way imo, you know, not corny but catchy.
