Its obvious that they are in different wieght classes,so you can't say who hits harder, because kovalev would have an unfair advantage, being the bigger man. But since both of them seem to tear through opponents, why do they do it differently? Kovalev has more of a one punch game changer, while golovkin has heavy fists, that can wear down, and break down an opponent. So what's the difference? Is it technique, angles, wieght classes, genetics?
Kovalev is literally better in every aspect of the game IMO. And thats not a shot at GG, I like him and think he's a very good fighter, just not at the level of a guy like Kovalev. Time will tell though. GGG needs some opponents. Kovalev will have two guys that trump anyone on GGG's resume soon.
I disagree ... GGG technique is scary. His amateur pedigree is a testament to that.
I agree. To me it's not even close, kovalev hurts guys with almost every punch. He showed incredible skill in the Hopkins fight along with power. He's the best right right now, period.
Kovalev flicks out a little jab and the opponent takes a knee. GGG breaks up with haymaker type punches every time he throws. It really comes down to 2 doses of the juice compared to 1 dose.
I have to accept your preference of styles but find it weird that you seem to recognise few differences between these two guys who both have very indivdual styles - Kovalev very much the mover, who uses great mobility (for a LHW) to control range and utilise his arsenal principally from mid range or the outside and Golovkin the quintessential closer who uses calculated and constant pressure to control his opponents and intelligently reduce their countering options to a few, predictable alternatives.
Ain't wanting to patronise but you might appreciate the individuality of both if you took the time.
Agreed. GGG and Kovalev are quite different in their approach to boxing and punching. Walters and Kovalev have more in common, as Nicholas fights like a slower, flat footed version of Sergey.
Thurman also delivers his punches somewhat like GGG but Keith is one-dimensional with his offense but at least has the speed which was mentioned...
I think their power is similar but its true that Kovalev doesn't even look like hes trying to punch hard.
GGG is my favorite in the sport though. To me, his combinations are a thing of beauty and very unique. He is smart, creative, and always in attack mode.
I know better why I don't like their style, believe it. :)
In their perosna is nothing really bothering or bad for me so that's not logical that I don't like them as persons.
And it also nothing has to do with race since I'm white as well (okay GGG is half Asian but still...)

I loved the first knockdown in the Kov-Hops fight as it showed what Kovalev was all about.
With Hopkins in the corner and Kovalev pressing, Kovalev just pushes himself forward a little and Hopkins Immediately went in with his head down looking to land an overhand right ( He tried it a fair few times during the fight ), but as Hopkins is coming forward, Kovalev has already taken a step back and created distance and proceeds to land a punch straight onto the top of Hopkins' dome.
Eh, GGG is more creative with his punches than about anyone. Kovalev is unconventional at times as well. I think you don't like them simply because you don't like them.

True that and this is exactly the reason why I don't really like the style of Golovkin and Kovalev. They are very good at what they are doing but I like these thing with a little salt (individuality/distinction) better. And I also more likely a sucker for speed than for power but there are a few exceptions though.

If you freeze a video of GGG or Kovalev letting their punches go, you will see images that look like they came out of a boxing tutorial or text book.
"This what a left hook should like. This is a right cross ... " etc.
I think both learned how to deliver a range of punches with impecable technique and form during their years in the Russian amateur school. Combine correct punching technique with raw physical strength, and you are going to knock people out.
Beterbiev has the same ability, for the same reasons.

I think they have the same type of power. I separate two types. One of them are the thudding heavy handed guys like Golovkin, Kovalev, Maidana, Matthysse, etc... the other ones are the explosive, "sharp" power guys who are more often counter punchers than brawlers/pressure fighters. I think about the likes of Thurman, Walters or Stevenson.

Kovalev seems to have easy power. Doesn't even look like he is throwing hard but the results are devastating.

I think GGG jab and his ability to cut the ring off is better than kovalev but they are both top boxers with similar styles so there is not much difference. Also i would say kovalev is more "raw" and GGG is more "refined" boxers.
