Mayweather is know for his defence but a couple of things have helped him being a top prize fighter that he would not benefited from in past.
Floyd's glove help him out so much with his defence. Grants gloves are much bigger that gloves of the past, especially around the wrist, making them ideal for his philly shell defence to catch punches on.
With 6oz horse hair gloves Floyd's defence would have a lot more holes in and his hands would not be as protected.
Lets face it Floyd is a boring boxer, and has stunk out arenas in the past. But because of his personality and antics outside the ring he has gotten his name out there and made a fan base for himself.
He would not have been able to do this without the modern media and the mass TV coverage we have today.
In the past he would not have been an attraction, an age when bravery, blood, heart and warrior spirit meant everything.
Plus with multiple belts and weight division Floyd has been able to cherry pick his way to numerous titles.
With the old original 8 division he would have been lucky to be 1 weight world champion.
What do you think?
Has Floyd been extremely lucky to fight in this age?
of course not... but pac man would!
There's nobody from the past who could have withstood Pac Man lb for lb either!
There are plenty from the past who would beat Pacquiao.
But you don't even have to go back very far to find Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradly and Érik Morales
You would never have heard of Many Pacquiao back then. Fighters weren't coming out of PH back then
There's nobody from the past who could have withstood Pac Man lb for lb either!
The best offensive fighter by weight of all time beyond any doubt so far.
Now YOUR the one trying to invent the time machine.
Wow the Mayweather haters are really reaching now. To the point that they need to imagine a some time machine scenario to find somebody from the past to beat him :lol1:
:lol1: Nostalgic troll!
Duran would barely land a shot on Floydstain. Let's be serious!
It's one thing to rubbish Floyd for credible reasons but that was insane!
You do to Floyd what nostalgists do to Wlad.
All you do is announce to the entire world that your an agenda driven retard!
I have earned the right to can Mayweather because I've smashed him objectively.
You should stay in the History section.. where you belong old man!! Leave the heavy stuff to the cognitively functional (and continent) posters ;) :lol1:
great stuff man! you da best!
depends on what weight and in what era....duran at lw eats him up in the 70s. in the 80s he might have a better chance.
at featherweight, he'd be a worthy, top level talent for years in most eras but not dominant.
at any weight higher than lw its a joke

I am one of Floyd's most sworn detractors.
He has literally cut boxings throat via the most extreme cowardice ever seen in 150 years of boxing.
Yet objectively, Floyd utterly clowns any pre80's boxer that comes within a stone of his weight range beyond any doubt.
From the modern era, he still would be among the top lb for lb boxers of all time.
In fact lb for lb, really only MAnny Pac can be said to defeat the best Mayweather for certain.
Yes, he would have fought at lightweight.
Not many eras of boxing where he would have been top dog
How do you know that he wouldn't have been? Yeah he probably wouldn't have had the "Money" persona, but he would of still been a defensive artist and would most definately been a champion in the division he fought at.
Boxing was more about Bravery and "Warrior" spirit back then because most people didn't have the skill. Pretty sure licensing wasn't a big deal back then, so random dudes off the street could technically be a boxer. Guys like Willie Pep, Robinson, or Lamotta are few and far between, with a bunch of journeyman non-contenders that take up most of their records. Which is why old school fighters have 100+ wins with like 10 losses.
If you think he wouldn't have been able to avoid fights, that has been going on for decades too.
Then you should be aware of the likelihood that Mayweather wouldn't even be at WW, would have likely ended his career south of that where he was very much in his physical prime, a combination puncher and no one uttered boring.

I am aware of that fact.

Never been dropped officially... yet he some how magically gets knocked out multiple times LMAO!!!!!!https://lifeintensity.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/when_listening_to_stupid_people_ramble_on_540.jpg
Absolutely flawed logic to use, because if he was in different eras I.e 80's he would have been Ko'd by Hearns and Duran. The only way you could only use this argument if he had fought every single ATG. Then you can make that statement because until then there are fighters in floyd's weightclasses that would have KO'd him.
Defence? Defense? Are you drunk or retarded? Have you watched Floyd's entire career of fights? Obviously not since he's so "boring." So the "pillow" gloves are a detriment to Floyd's opponents if they both wear them yet a major advantage to Floyd??? So Floyd's defense centers around his gloves? Which is it? Are the pillow gloves an advantage or disadvantage?
Pillow gloves are an advantage to defensive fighters.
Catching punches with them.
Difficult question, impossible to say what he'd be like in past eras because he didn't grow up in them. He'd be a totally different person if he did and more than likely a totally different fighter.
Yes the butterfly effect of course. But if He went back in time when he was 19 and started his boxing career. I wonder how he would have got on.
You are right he would develop into a different fighter and not be the crowd booing fighter that he is today.
He would have to be more offensive, like his superfeather days but more so.
He would also have to start out at lightweight. But hand problems would have crippled his career and his style still would not have been that crowd pleasing and might have got frozen out even if he were successful
Lightweight would have been his only realistic chance of a title
Floyd be highly dangerous w/ 6 oz. gloves back in the day.
To say he doesn't have a chance at being a Featherweight or Lightweight world champion in any era is ridiculous.
