I respect the dude, but I wish people would stop trying to crown him despite not having a "crowning performance." When has he truly looked good against elite opposition? I thought Trout outpointed him; Mayweather schooled him; and you can make a case that Lara won although I believed Canelo deserved the nod because of his body work.
Let's see him have a CONVINCING win over an elite opponent. He doesn't have one yet, stop acting like it.
when was floyd mayweather's last win over an elite opponent?
pacquiao's?
klitschko's?
marquez'?
by your tone, it seems like these wins are common. they aren't.
most fighters, historically or otherwise, string together wins over contenders, not other elite fighters. matches between truly prime, great fighters are rare.
alvarez' wins over trout and lara make him stand out, particularly when you consider that these wins occurred well before his 25th birthday.
my issue with alvarez currently is the weight. alvarez is a middleweight. they're trying to stall out that stage of his career to attempt to lure manny, cotto, into a fight.
Has Canelo clearly and decisively beaten a world class opponent?
this will probably turn into some childish discusssion of semantics. "world class," "decisively," etc.
austin trout was coming off of a win over miguel cotto when he lost to alvarez. you don't need to win "clearly" to win a fight. you need two of the three judges to give you the nod. anybody who thought that fight was a robbery was some kind of fanboy, usually of manny pacquiao.
additionally, lara was considered a worthy opponent. these are all world class fighters. if you travel the world to box top contenders you're a world class fighter.
again, it was only idiots who have no concept of what a body shot looks like or does to a pure boxer's legs, who called that fight a robbery.
the important aspect of the post was a reference to a great, great rap album, liquid swords.
why is the sky blue?
why is water wet?
why did judas grab the romans while jesus slept?
I like everything about him, except for the 155 catchweights, mothe****er needs to do something about that. That being said most of the guys he has fought are as big or bigger than him, so I don't think it is as big a deal as most people make of it.
hhahahahahahahahahahajajajajajaja lmao!!!
Really? Really?????
HahahahahahahananaanNn.....
LOL did you see the Mayweather fight???
Styles make fights. If a fighter doesn't have an aggressive mauling/wrestling style, he isn't going to look good against, Floyd. Guys like Hatton, Castillo, Maidana, and even Oscar had their success because they smothered Floyd's offense both on the outside and on the inside. If you give Floyd space to operate, he'll just pick you apart. Those guys made sure not to, but they all came up short.
Canelo fought the right way against Floyd. He tried to be defensive and counter-punch Floyd, but he simply couldn't cut the ring off and set up his offense.
Same for me. Before the Trout fight I was convinced Canelo was all hype and would be exposed by the first decent jr. MW he faced. But he earned my respect vs Trout.
And him winning vs Lara was one of the best moments of my boxing fandom. He put everything on the line against a high risk/low reward opponent that was a horrible style matchup for him and won. And he didn't lose his nerve when things weren't looking good in the first couple of rounds. He kept doing his thing and found a way. The maturity he showed in that fight belies his age. How can anyone not be a fan of that?
I know, a lot of it is racial and a lot of it is just plain old, blind hating.
Canelo is the best active LMW on the planet. He has balls too and showed more grit than Lara, which is why I picked him to beat the supposedly superior "boxer", Lara showed he didn't have that dog in him against Angulo. Canelo will get in a scrap if he wants to and I respect that.
For so long, Canelo was a pampered joke, winning the vacant WBC lmw crown against a career junior welter lol but since then, he has started to impress me, it started with the methodical beat down of a faded Rhodes, then he had a lucky match up against Gomez and in all honesty a too close fight against a shot to **** Mosley but he showed improvement, heart, power and skill in all those fights. The Trout fight did it for me though, it was close but Canelo deserved the nod, he showed class and better defence than he had in years. He bullied the taller Trout in there, a man coming off of beating Cotto.
The mayweather fight came too early and was a farce but I can't argue with him getting the better of Lara, the guy everyone said would make Canelo look a fool.

I don't think so.
He's got power and some decent skills, but his footwork is terrible and he can't punch without being set. Not to mention he's too big for 154 and fights at catch-weights instead of fighting guys his own size.
Good fighter, not a great one...I feel he lost to Lara also.
I belive he has all the attributes to take over boxing for the next years after Mayweather, what doyou guys think?

Pacquiao would beat Canelo just as decisively. Prime Martinez would humiliate Canelo, Thurman could arguably beat Canelo.
Canelo isn't this beast you want him to be (to make Floyd look better)
Down the years that win over Canelo is gonna look very overrated.
Well that's dumb, Canelo's been fighting at Middleweight for the last 2 years. He'll never fight at 154 again, he can't make the weight.I think you are making a federal case over one stinking pound. None of the fights where the weight limit was 155 were title fights and if they were title fights Canelo would have made 154 as he always had before and even made 152 for Mayweather. Hell it's no secret he is going to 160 soon and he tried to get Cotto in the ring for Cotto's 160 pound title. It wasn't me that ranked him number 1 at jr middleweight it was the ranking organiz ations. If you think their dumb then that's what you think. The minute Canelo says he is a middleweight he will get a high rank at middleweight because he is that good and has that good of record. Canelo has a country full of Mexican boxing fans who think he has a great future and I agree with them. Maybe you think they are also dumb.
Yes. I'm a fan of Canelo. He is already a PPV star and in the next few years he will become even bigger. The only man to ever beat him was the great Floyd Mayweather. I think Canelo is the next star after Floyd. Definitely the real deal.
He hasn't fought at jr middleweight for 2 years, he'll never fight there again. He can't make the weight. He's a Middleweight.
the Trout fight was at 155?
He is a star but I still can't over how bad he performed against Mayweather. Maidana and Cotto looked better.
This
He's solid guy at 154 to 160 but isn't no daddy Chavez nor is he Marquez Morales and Barerra caliber .

he's been fighting 1 year at 155 not 2

Yes, I definitely think Canelo is the real deal. I think the Lara decision was suspect but I like canelos strategy. He couldn't outbox Lara but he found away to land to the body and had Lara retreating. That made the fight close, so no one could really argue with the decision. I like Canelo as one of the faces of the future.
Pacquiao would beat Canelo just as decisively. Prime Martinez would humiliate Canelo, Thurman could arguably beat Canelo.

You should put an I think or in my opinion in front of all that. Nobody knows how future fights will end until they happen. It could just as easily be Canelo who beats Pacquiao decisively, humiliates a prime Martinez and knocks out Thurman. Why do you think everyone who ranks fighters, Ring, Boxing Scene, Boxrec and all the rest rank Canelo as the best Jr. Middleweight in the world? Are they all stupid and the only smart one is you?
I think he is a hell of a fighter and he is only just turning 24. He is very serious and dedicated to becoming the best boxer he can be. I think he can beat anybody who fights at 154 or 160 except GGG. GGG would knock him out just as he knocked out the last 17 guys he fought. I think Canelo has learned enough and Mayweather has slipped enough that Canelo could reverse the Mayweather loss if Canelo can fight at 154 instead of 152. I don't think Canelo will duck GGG. He said he would fight him. I hope he never fights GGG because a KO loss never does a fighter any g
