WBC gives another chance to Danny Garcia after a year wasted

This article is from the WBC site: Danny Garcia conquered the WBC Super Lightweight world championship on March 24, 2012 defeating Erik Morales. WBC Champion Danny Garcia made his last mandatory defense of his world title on September 14, 2013, in one of the best fights of recent times, defeating Lucas Matthysse. Danny Garcia and mandatory and number 1 contender Viktor Postol, registered a step-aside agreement in the WBC. In that agreement, Garcia and Postol agreed to each take a fight against a different opponent on the same card, and then fight in the mandatory championship contest immediately thereafter. Lucas Matthysse, the current WBC Silver champion and number 2 contender, contacted the WBC and manifested his desire and intention to fight for the WBC world title again. WBC Champion Danny Garcia has officially requested the WBC Board of Governors to grant him permission to participate in a fight over the division's weight limit, which the WBC Rules & Regulations consider a “WBC Special Event.” Viktor Postol has officially confirmed to the WBC that he wishes to participate in the undercard of the Garcia vs. Peterson fight per the step-aside agreement. Postol does not object to Champion Garcia`s participation in the proposed WBC Special Event. The World Boxing Council has reviewed the overall situation of the Super Lightweight division. Further, Champion Garcia´s request was submitted to the WBC Board of Governors for a vote, with the following result: 1. The WBC has granted Danny Garcia permission to participate in his fight vs. Peterson over the Super Lightweight limit. 2. The Garcia/Postol step-aside agreement will be modified and updated to include the new date of the fight and the conditions for the mandatory fight between Garcia and Postol. 3. Lucas Matthysse has been named mandatory contender to fight against the then WBC world champion immediately following the Garcia vs. Postol fight. 4. The sanction fees the Garcia vs. Peterson Special Event generates shall be deposited directly in the “WBC Jose Sulaiman Boxers Fund”, which is administered by the Nevada Community Foundation. The Fund is currently aiding many boxers from around the world. Well I for one see Peterson finally finishing the job that Khan, & Herrera forgot to do. And that is take Danny to school, with a boxing lesson! I know a lot of you guys are going to say Lamont got stopped by Mathyesse, and since Danny beat Lucas, naturally his should beat Peterson.... Styles makes fights. "Swift" is a slow starter, and runs out of gas later in fights. "Havoc" is also slow, but picks up steam in the later rounds. And to me(just my opinion) has a better overall skill set than Garcia. So all things being equal, what happens when they raise Peterson's hand in victory? does Garcia still keep that belt, and will he have a defend it against #1, or the #2 fighter, or will he just walk away from 140??? :boxing::boxing:

Wait... didnt he loose to Herrera?? How come he's still the champion? And Peterson got KO by Matthysse.. but he's still a champion as well. This "sport" is so confusing.. :sad: The bum is a star and a draw in boxing .. Only reason he gets catered to , Herrera boxed his head in but oh well

Off night and still did enough as the CHAMP to keep his belt. He took Hererra lightly and it showed. Shyt happens, Foreman gave Ali fits and it does not make Ali any less great. I think Garcia gets beat by a lot of guys at welter I know sugar Adam Ali disagrees I just think the division is deep with guys with speed, power and skills and Garcia only has exceptional power and he has to plant his feet for it

Garcia was on the cusp of having a great 140lb record, but never rematching Herrera is a serious black mark. A great fighter would have rematched him immediately. Fighting fucking Salka instead was a disgrace. And now he's going this 143lb nonsense with Peterson. You can't defend this. Garcia had huge momentum after Matthysse and he has thrown it all away.

that was awhile ago. is roy jones still champ as well? he lost to herrera, fought rob salsa at 142, and now he's fighting a 10 rounder against peterson at 143. its safe to say his career has gone off the rails. he doesn't even have the confidence to fight 147 pound fighters. he has to fight 135 and 140 pounders above 140. how is that going to prepare him to fight welterweights? he doesn't even have the confidence to go 12 rounds. how is that going to prepare him for bigger stronger fighters? its so sad to watch what fear does to people. This post is pure garbage is peterson a credible welterweight because that's where he's fighting him. Also if this is such a credible fight why is it a 10 rounder? Dude just stop with your pure bitterness. It's a good fight discredit all you want but when we talked about the first NBC card ( Thurman / Guererro Broner / Molina ) you said this was one of the fights you wanted to see now you discredit it ( what a suprise ) Why discredit it , all that matters is that 2 top guys are figting technically Garcia should already have Lamont's strap anyways.

Who cares, Garcias fighting one of the last credible names left in his div and really it doesn't matter because if he wins he's probably going to vacate to move up And it looks like Postol gets a shot for the title I'm predicting Broner goig to slide into that fight for the vacant strap is peterson a credible welterweight because that's where he's fighting him. Also if this is such a credible fight why is it a 10 rounder?

Please tell me how rabbit punching a guy and throwing him in between the ropes is legal? Pretty sure the ref is supposed to stop that and his job is to protect the fighters at all times. I'm sure i've heard or read that somewhere. Allowing a fighter to be rabbit punched and thrown off balance into the ropes where he is defenseless is not protecting them. Then again this is the same guy who allowed garcia to lowblow more than andre golota. Integrity isn't one of his strong suits.
