This guy was a top amateur and was supposed to become a dominant champ, i just checked his record and he is already 27 and the last guy he fought was 21-10 and it ended in a NC.
I remember watching some amateur fights of him and he has some sick hands and good fundamentals, thought he would become the next big thing in the lighter weightclasses....
the biggest boxing tournament in the world is the qualifying tournament in the olympics. getting there thrice is a huge, huge accomplishment in amateur boxing.
warren peaked in those three olympic appearances. tiny guys like that peak early in life. it's big men that generally enjoy a career with a late blossom.
an unkown 27 year old bantamweight with no power doesn't become a star. not on this planet, anyway.
he's way, way too small to be a star. hell, they don't even put guys that size on HBO or showtime if they aren't top flight fighters, or have a built in fanbase
he's a 5'4" bantamweight, and he doesn't have power in his current division.
this guy is never going to make much money.
I don't think he has had enough fights to justify a title shot. Maybe at the end of this year or next year he will make that leap. I wonder if he regrets the fact that he basically spent 3 olympics and got no medals out of it. Guy could have been a champion 8 years ago.
Stayed in the amateurs too long, without being healthy enough to pick up the amateur accolades needed to justify the extended stay in the unpaid ranks.
You add that he's likely maxed out at his current 118, and I'm not too sure what you were expecting from him.
Yeah, why would he stay in the ams that long unless he was Cuban? It was weird he wanted the gold but never came home with one, I remember how he was hyped when he was like 15 years old or something like he was going to be the next gold medalist and future boxing star.
The guy right now is more known for being part of Adrien Broner entourage.
And this was the guy Broner used to look up to at the gym now he is basically looking up to Broner.

I am wondering the same thing, this guy was hyped up as Americas best chance for the gold medal but he failed what 3 times didnt he go to 3 olympics and didn't medal?
I remember when he was out in LA training with Roach for almost a year, they seemed to have a good chemistry and Roach saw potential in him, but when he went back to Ohio with Broner he started slacking and falling into that party life.
