Had to google translate, but they said they got it from asking Roman:
The sports writer and deputy mayor of Managua, Enrique Armas Rosales said in his Playoff program he had spoken with Roman Chocolatito ?? ?? González at the ceremony of Sports Writers Association of Nicaragua, on Saturday January 31, and that was where the Nicaraguan tricampeón said for December 31 this year and has signed the fight with the Japanese champion at 115 pounds World Boxing Organization (WBO), Naoya Inoue.
I don't think he can beat Roman Gonzalez. Gonzalez is 5th P4P best in the world.
PFP ranking is irrelevant in terms of this match up. In fact, PFP ranking doesn't signify an assurance in victory in any situation unless said PFP fighter is in there with a complete tomato can. If being on the previously mentioned list alone were to secure the victor of a fight, then how would anyone move up or down in rank?
Naoya is only 8 fights in as a pro and has mopped the floor with two highly respected/rated fighters in Narvaez and Hernandez. Win/lose or draw the kid isn't only talented but has Godzilla sized balls. One of the few in boxing daring to be great.
the way he handled narvaez was REALLY impressive. Gonzales is different story, but still. if it happens....
Completely different story, I agree. However, Roman is hittable and he himself has stated the fact that he has been getting tagged a tad bit too much and has slowed down in recent fights. Perhaps it's his weight, since he is quite small and moving up too far could have hindered his stamina and made him sluggish. We have yet to see how he looks at 115 and how well his power and stamina transfer over, he will be fighting a journeyman in the following month or so, so we should get an idea soon.
Regardless this is perhaps the best fight Roman could get aside from the rematch with Gallo. If he somehow manages to obtain both and win them this year, FOTY will easily go to him. If Inoue manages to fight another worthy name/unify against another champion and beat Roman this year, then that's FOTY based on such enormous feat right there.
Anyway, enough theorizing on my behalf. I can't fcking wait :lol1:
He would easily, eaaasily break into the PFP top 10 rankings. If he manages to beat Roman(which I am counting on), he would have the scalps of Roman, Narvaez and Hernandez at 10 fights or so with only a couple of years as a pro. Incredible. This is history in the making folks.

where would inoue rank if he beats gonzales? would be awesome for someone who doesn't even have 10 pro fights

Gonzalez would win this fight. He's one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world.
A Champion of 3 weight classes, Undefeated 41 fights, 41 wins, 35 Knockouts
He will beat Inoue. The fight will probably be in Tokyo. Inoue's home town but also where Gonzales has allot of his fans.
He's loved in Japan, He's fought his last 3 fights there and is signed to Japanese Teiken Promotions.
Can you imagine how big this would be if it were a lightweight fight between Mexicans or Americans instead? I mean to hardcore fans it doesn't get much bigger but those little guys are so overlooked it's ridiculous. Because these are p4p guys with what they have been doing. Last year was amazing for them.
Millions of people will still be watching this fight lol. Millions alone in Japan.

December is a long time from now. I'm skeptical but hopeful.
It's mainly for the New Years show since it's the most watched there.... but I don't expect any tough fights between now and then
Yes. Winner gets FOTY from Boxingscene.
I don't think they take any hard comp between now and then, Inoue might still try to unify with Kono though...maybe Cuadras since he's Teiken
I would assume that means the Estrada fight isn't happening this year. But what if Roman took the Estrada fight for the summer beat him and then went on to fight Inoue on News Eve and then beat him. Would that make him FOTY or what?
It would definitely make him fighter of the year.
Not crazy on the 9 month waiting period, a lot can happen in that time.
If Gonzalez wins this fight he's a sure fire HOFer working his way up to ATG status. If Inoue wins this fight, he's started a brilliant career in a manner that we haven't seen in decades.
