I mean this is one really bad side for mayweather if he decides to fight for the 160 title. Conversations with golovkin now make sense, you are no longer too small to face ggg, you have no argument anymore. you have fought for the 160 title so now people are going to assume that a ggg fight is possible. and they are right to assume that
GGG's already come into the conversation. Floyd fans have been frantically scattering for some argument to both prove Floyd's legitimacy as the MW champ and excuse the forgone decision to duck GGG.
wasnt floyd too small for MW when maravilla called him out at 154??
suddenly he is grown now that cotto has the title...
that is exactly the reason many see him as a cherrypicker...
This was public opinion not that of his own so it shouldn't hold weight but it's Floyd so public opinion is all that matters. I personally feel he should fight GGG if he wants a MW title but its not gonna happen.
The WBC will make Golovkin full champion and Mayweather champion emeritus (like they did with Chavez & Martinez).
I don't blame the WBC either. Their raking Floyd for sanctioning fees just so he can pretend he's the champion of the divisions. Winning the MW title at 154.5 against a JMW is a joke. Floyd has nothing on Robinson, Griffith, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Trinidad, and Dela Hoya.
He won all of his titles at the weight limits except for the Canelo fight. If he fights Cotto at 160 he wont get credit. If he fight GGG (which I dnt think he will.) He will get minimal credit for some dumb reason. I wish he'd drop the 154 belt and just fight Manny and (God I hate to say this) Khan and retire. No wait, he can also fight the winner of Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson for his 50th win and then retire.
Floyd should fight cotto and become lineal champ at Welterweight, jr Middleweight, and Middleweight at the same time and Undefeated. Thats legendary and official TBE. Oh how the tards would hate him even more. It would be awesome.

Openly ducked? Martinez Vs GGG demand didn't come until demand until 2013-maybe early 2014.
Martin Murray, Matthew Macklin, Darren Barker, Serhiy Dzinziruk ,
Paul Williams were all ranked far ahead in public opinion and official ranks ahead of a at the time "unknown" Glovokin.
But yes, in 2014 Sergio was looking to cash out, he was no longer looking to take the most dangerous, in which he thought Cotto was.
Maybe "ducked" is a harsh word, but he did avoid him for years. After the Proksa win (september 2012) GGG was the consensus biggest threat to Martinez and the fight was in high demand in boxing circles. Given the circumstances it's understandable that Martinez didn't want it, but he definitely overstayed his welcome as "the MW champ".
Cotto won the title from an old, inactive, ailing Martinez who would have lost to any MW with a pulse that night. And surprise, surprise, Cotto, too, has better things to do as "the MW champ" than fighting the guy who has been #1 contender for years and is generally considered the best MW in the world.
I have always liked Martinez, my previous post was not a knock on him. My point was that at this point, any MW title not won in a fight involving GGG is not "the true MW championship".
Miguel Cotto will not fight Golovkin. There is even less chance Mayweather does. If Cotto fights and beats Mayweather, that belt will stay hostage as long as Cotto can get away with it. If Mayweather wins it, he'll almost definitely drop it and Golovkin will get a chance against somebody.
The best case scenario would have been Alvarez/Cotto, with Alvarez winning, but now that isn't happening.
It really doesn't matter which one has it. When push comes to shove, both Floyd and Cotto are going to vacate it, if they have to fight a legit middleweight like GGG. Right now it is a prized belt because it is a lineal belt. As soon as either Floyd or Cotto drops the belt, there will no longer be any lineage to it, making it as worthless as used toilet paper.
This potential fight would speak to the greatness of Mayweather's legacy. To risk your unbeaten record in an attempt to win a lineal title at MW after already winning lineal titles at JLW, LW, WW twice, and JMW? That would be epic.
To attempt to hold 3 lineal titles simultaneously at WW, JMW, and MW? That's what boxing is all about.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is approaching boxing immortality. God bless this man.
you got to be trolling...
Trust me, Canelo has balls, but no way Oscar is letting him get in the ring with Golovkin.
Canelo is getting Ko'd, no judges to save him like his last few bouts.
So I guess I will have to give Delahoya props for sacrificing Canelo to make a good fight.
Alvarez has given me no reason to doubt him. So when he says he would fight Golovkin, and he has done so multiple times, I believe him.
It would be great to see Mayweather-Cotto fight for the true lineal MW title.
Two legends and future first-ballot Hall of Famers laying it all on the line.
are you joking? i can't tell, seriously. if you aren't, your post is absurd
It comes into the conversation of fans, but not the conversation of Floyd and his team. Floyd will never, ever fight Golovkin and I can't really blame him. Golovkin could be at 168 or 175 if he wanted.
