Looking back I just don't see how a win over him would enhance his already considerable resume....the fight was being considered between 2006-2008 and before Mayweather retired, Margarito had already lost to Paul Williams, and Daniel Santos who are no where near floyds league
to add to this only held the WBO title and that's not much incentive when at the time Mayweather had won lineal titles at 3/4 weight classes he competed in.
His biggest win didn't come until Mayweather retired when he beat Cotto
All in all Margarito was never a great fighter, he did notch some good wins but this boogeyman that Floyd avoided isn't what I see.
Just another fighter who gained hype because his promoter kept bring up Mayweather's name
in retrospect, Is a win over Margarito more meaningful than wins over Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Shane Mosley, Genaro Hernandez, Canelo Alvarez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, or Cotto?
Beating Tony would've done nothing for Floyd's legacy. It's just another come forward zombie! Easy win for Floyd.
From a Floyd "Lack of testicle hater"!
Margarito had the conditioning and stamina to be in his face all night. Margarito would have wrecked floyd, which is why floyd nor his fans wanted to see it. You don't simply pot shot a guy like Margarito. Nobody has ever done that.
1.....2.....TONYS coming for Floyd....3.....4 better lock your door......Tony gave Floyd nightmares like Freddy Kruger.
Margarito with or without plaster is a damn good fighter regardless, I think Mayweather would have beaten him in a very uneventful fight where Mayweather takes potshotting to new heights. Mayweather had the conditioning to pull that off and the crowd wouldn't get to him.

Here is Floyd comparing Maidana to Margarito and Resto. Basically saying that they are all cheats.
What was the difference? Floyd ducked Margarito but fought Maidana twice! Well, he also took away Maidana's approved punchers gloves but that is another issue ......

Cowardly Floyd was scared constipated of Tony Margarito. Just watch the video on UTube when Tony confronted Floyd. Floyd freaked out wet his pants. Floyds heavies had wandered off he was all by himself Shakin like a leaf ROFLMAO

Biased as5es. The Welterweight division at that time was the hottest, occupied by the meanest mfckers. If he had fought and defeated Margarito when Margarito was most feared he would have been considered a bad as5 mofo by now. ***** move, he fake retired. He's forever a *****. Meanwhile, the others fought and wrecked each other. Floyd's welterweight career is meaningless.
:lol1: :lol1:
Fighters like Margarito aren't what gives Floyd trouble. If he would've beat him everyone would think nothing of it and probably even criticize Floyd for fighting another "slow plodder". Power, good chin means nothing to Floyd, Margarito was far too slow. Fighters that give Floyd a competitive fight are fast on their feet, solid boxer punchers, like Castillo, Judah (for first few rounds).
Had floyd defeated margarita, margs would be the equivalent of baldomir to all the people who love to hate floyd.
Much of margs greatness on nsb is because he didn't fight floyd.
Would have been a very tough fight.
Cotto was a big puncher at WW and Margarito completely ran through him to land his punches.
No doubt he would have got to Mayweather. If he didn't beat him he would have hurt him at least and possibly take something out of him.
You didn't get point so you should check that moron stuff, and you seriously think all offense no defense guys are what Floyd would avoid ok. Maybe if Williams really was committed to fighting tall or Margarito used his length.
Really man and I wasn't even talking about that really, I was talking about levels.
Dude was talking about styles I was talking about levels and styles only matter if someone is on a similar level. Margarito and Williams are no different in class that middle of the rung Floyd opposition. One big win really and they could not make a run beyond that because both just were not all that. I fail to see how that sort of good fighter does anything for a guy who has beat a ton of good fighters.
Like I said one two Freddy's coming for you three four Floyd better lock his door...he heard that in his dreams and was checking under his bed for Tony and in his closet for The Punisher.
Floyd never beat a Margs or Williams type opponent gtfo here you moron. In fact floyd went out of his way to avoid them

Nobody was thinking after Quitana easily outboxed Williams that he was any kind of match for Floyd. That knockout didn't change that at all.
It was not until years later did he morph back into what he was the instant after he beat Margarito.
Those two guy are good but they are a dime a dozen Floyd has made a career of beating guys like that, those guys are not really any different.
If that is what you need to believe go ahead, lots of boxing fans are very romantic about the past so not like your slant is an uncommon one.

I absolutely think that Margarito during 2006-7 gives Floyd a nightmare, the activity level, pressure and chin would give Floyd nightmares. When Mosley beat Margarito he didn't out box him. He outslugged him, Mosley threw quick, short bombs.
I still don't think he would beat Floyd, but that 2006-07 version of Margarito would probably be Floyds best win or atleast his best win at Welterweight. It would rank higher than Canelo in my eyes.
I think had Floyd matched up against Martinez or Forrest at 154 when he fought Oscar those are the types of guys that beat him. Guys with decent volume with the length and movement to avoid being countered. Their arms are long enough to be out of range whilst punching with the movement to avoid Floyd walking them down like he did Mosley and the volume to pick up points.
My dude...Styles make fights....attributes, heart, determination, will power, stamina, foot work, speed, certain combinations of all things coming together. Like I said Margarito was the bully of the division at that time he gave people nightmares, Paul Williams had the combination to be Fred Kruger in Floyd dreams!!!!

There are also levels in boxing and Quintana is at least 2 notches below the top. You lose to a guy like that you go to the back of the line even if you come back in your next fight and ice the guy in one round six months later.
That knockout doesn't erase the lose, and Williams had major consistency issues. If you can't be consistent then the guy is not really all that at the top end. Consistency in boxing is one thing winning every time, never looking out of place.
Guys like Wiliams and Margarito good fighters can win some fights but they were exactly what they were not the highly stylized versions people remember them as now.

Styles make fights, Carlos Quintana gave him hell in that fight. the scores were 116-112 and 115 -113. It wasn't exactly domination by Carlos. The rematch however was a quick road to redemption. I believe Paul disposed of Carlos in the first round. Paul The Punisher Williams was a freak of nature from 147-160 he was feared and avoided. Come on let it out its okay
