Growing up the big fights were on HBO, you had to have HBO as your premium channel. Now the tides have changed, its Showtime that is king of the hill. HBO lived on the rights to show Mike Tyson fights, it built them into a powerhouse. Towards the end of Tyson's career he switched to Showtime and it was never the same. HBO has suffered since they let Mayweather go. My question is....will HBO ever be king of the hill again?
Schaefer was the CEO, not the GBP match maker. :poke: What great matches did Showtime put on that were not apart of the maxed out PPV cards in 2013? Where is this great year that you guys are all reporting as fact? Was it just the Canelo PPV? That is really all they can claim as being a success that year.
Schaefer and Eddie Gomez was holding things together GBP while Oscar was in rehab...AGAIN just before of Canelo vs Mayweather fight.
Based on the match ups they gave the fans in 2013, Showtime and GBP had a great year in 2013. They was the Promoters of a Record Breaking Boxing Event on top of giving the fans match ups like Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse among other match ups.
So yes 2013 was a strong year for GBP and Showtime and YES 1 RECORD BREAKING EVENT is a major reason why!
I agree with other comment about them kicking HBO ASS in 2013 but 2014 SUCKED not because Al Haymon "WOULDN'T LET HIS FIGHTERS FIGHT OR STOPPED FIGHTS"...
NO RICHARD SCHAEFER! Who was responsible for giving us these LOADED CARDS and matching guys up with each other. People was talking about how they wanted him gone and all this crap but you found out in 2014 that what Schaefer was doing was GREAT FOR BUSINESS for both GBP and Showtime! 2014 we learned that Schaefer is needed in the sport!

HBO has more subscribers so I would expect their numbers to be better.
What would be cool is if Showtime's parent company, CBS Corporation started showing fights on CBS!
One can dream I guess.
wasn't the whole point of bringing floyd/haymon to get more subscribers? that obviously didn't work.

lol, so even the miraculous 2013 Showtime year is debunked. The only thing not shown on this list were the May and September PPV's. That is not enough to propel them to the number spot in 2013 even.
Showtime is, has, and always will be second tier to HBO.
the ppvs were designed to attract more overall viewers to showtime but that just didn't happen. in fact the ppv's cost showtime money. total fail. or what we call a total haymon.
YEAR 2013

I really like showtime. The crew, the production, etc, but it appears they are all but finished. Who do they even have to show fights with anymore? Haymon is going to NBC, Golden Boy is putting guys on HBO, and Top Rank has always been HBO. HBO has been getting the foreign fights.
I think Showtime had its one year in 2013. That's too bad too. I like boxing on Showtime.
oh yea...the last one i remember was Khan-Alexander
They had the Ivan Redkach fight this past Friday on Showbox. Then this coming week they'll have Wilder VS Stiverne.
You might've been able to make this argument after 2013 but Showtime took a major step back last year. They didn't produce many meaningful fights last year and their ratings dipped considerably. There are so many questions that remained unanswered for Showtime in 2015 but it's clear that HBO has the better boxing program at the moment.
Who is going to be the star of Showtime boxing? Mayweather only has a year or two left. Canelo was supposed to be the new star for them but he has taken his talents to HBO. It's unclear who can assume this open position.
Who will actually fight on Showtime? Up until recently, all of the top Golden Boy fighters fought on Showtime. Now the company has lost a large part of their talent and it is unclear where those fighters will head. With the new Haymon deal with NBC, some of the top fighters may be on there. I'm sure Golden Boy and Haymon will still have cards on Showtime but we won't see the stacked cards from 2013.
I still think Showtime is still a good boxing network but they're no longer a challenge to HBO at the moment. It's back to the drawing board for them.
when was the last time Showtime had boxing on? i'm serious...i cant remember
19th Dec.
Stevenson v Sukhotsky.
Week before that they had Khan v Alexander, a Thurman v Bundu and Mares v can't remember his face.
They put on some good cards last year, and a couple of dross ones too.
Not quite the same consistent level of quality we got in 2013
In 2013 Showtime seemed to take control but 2014 HBO was back on top. If Showtime doesn't change the process of buying star vs scrub, HBO will continue to be on top
lol nope. Showtime had a really strong 2013 year, better than HBO. But I think their stacked cards eventually did them in and had a weak 2014, which belonged to HBO.
Showtime will always be #2 because they have less subscribers than HBO
