They enjoy rios and alvarado fights over boxers like rigo, Lara and mayweather? Anyone else feel like rios and alvarado are not only punching bags they're also clowns. No skill what so ever just fight like drunks and get hit all fight is that really entertainment?

Not sure about all the time but I'll take the Rios from last Saturday over any Mayweather fight, and any Rigo for entertainment. I'm cool off watch them walk back and forth and throw an occasional punch. It just goes to show they don't respect their opponents and they don't really take them seriously. And Rigo keeps getting caught acting like that.
Kovalev is a boxer puncher he doesnt always brawl like a rios alvarado type and what does an old Hopkins have yo do with anything. Hopkins in his prime had one of the best boxing performances vs Trinidad another skilled boxer puncher imagine if Hopkins in his prime faced an idiot like rios. Same Marquez vs alvarado outcome
No crap. That's my point. People that picked Hopkins didn't see Kovalev as a boxer puncher, they saw him as a one-dimensional brawler. Anybody with power and knockouts is considered unskilled brawlers on this bum site, solely due to those insecure bums having to find a way to downplay the success of said punchers since their favorites couldn't knock out an 8 year old boy with a sucker punch.
exactly. if you want to watch people making complex decisions all night and staring at eachother, watch chess.
also, we give the benefit of the doubt to boring fighters often. "oh, he's not throwing because he's so skilled!"
that works for rigondeaux, mayweather, etc, but what about mercito gesta? miguel vazquez? micky bey? these guys just posture and do nothing. there's less skill in doing that at times than there is in going intot he pocket in a war.
I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time you're being stupid in saying someone who watches boxing for the technique should just watch chess. Boxing can be distinguished from chess by the technique alone: it is possible for someone to appreciate that without really caring for the violence.
I do and so do the paying fans. Not you little illegal streaming clowns who are broke as ****, the sport doesn't care about you. The sport cares about the fans who pay for network subscriptions, PPVs and merch. I am that type of fan. I want to see action, get entertained when I sit down. I don't want to watch two low life poosy cowards run and retreat inside a FIGHT RING. This is the fight game, not the bish ass coward game. I'd pay for a Rios fight ANY day of the week over a boring coward "boxer".
That's why Rigo is fighting in UniMas, we the fans who have the power don't care about him so they have let him disappear. I have SKIPPED cards with Rigo on them. Companies know this, they are well aware of this. We don't want cowards and they listen. Period.
Lol everyone pays to watch floyd and according to you he's a coward so what does that mean. People didn't really buy rios vs pac
Seems like there is a misconception that boxer punchers= brawlers. No rios v alvardo is not the same as hears v hagler or Vazquez vs marque or even pac v marquez. Rios and alvarado are espn level fighters I can't believe the winner of that fight might get the opportunity to face a superior tim bradley

I don't get why elitist "boxing" fans think "boxing" only consists of throwing a few punches per round while playing defense the rest of the round. There's not just one style of boxing, like you bums thought Hopkins would school Kovalev with ease. Most people don't like boxers who don't engage, and why should they?
And what are you trying to say ? Kov outboxed hopkins

People said the same thing about Gatti/Ward 3.
Not sure how that's related to why I'm saying it. Neither of those guys sounded as punch drunk to me. For me, that's my hesitation.
I actually like both equally. It's like music...sometimes you want to listen to some deep philosophical music with profound lyrics and sometimes you just want to listen to Hot Boy by Bobby Shmurda. Nothing wrong with enjoying both spectrums of the sport.
Great thread. Outstanding. I mean seriously, who on earth would want to see a match thats a potential fight of the year candidate? A stupid person, that's who. As a matter of fact, brawlers should be thrown out of boxing and be forced to start their own sport. The thread starter should be rewarded for pointing this out to us. You get my own personal thumbs up:

I can't speak for the OP but I know for me, as much as I love a good scrap, I don't know how I feel about these two squaring off yet again. Like I'm contributing to their demise or something. Perhaps it's too much of a gray area for fans to delve into, but the idea of Rios taking even more punishment isn't appealing to me.
Not a huge rigo fan but I'd rather watch him over Rios. Dude just wailing and blocking punches with his face. Lame.
Also some styles utilise/include a bit o' brawling, so the question is redundant.

Too bad that guys like you don't realize boxing isn't solely about "skill". Boxing is about using your strengths to your advantages. Would Brandon be a better fighter if he tried to be slick? Or did he become a world champion by doing whats best for him?

I don't know. Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't we have two skilled technicians going at it like Leonard vs. Duran, Whitaker vs. Chavez, Morales vs. Barrera, Hagler vs. Hearns, Marquez vs. Casamayor, etc.
I enjoy all fights. I'm in the Friday Night Fights RBR's discussing the 4 rounders between fat hot dog vendors and I can watch Rigondeaux, Lara, Abril or whoever school their opponent and not get touched.
i appreciate both. you're fooling yourself if you don't find slugfests entertaining.
go watch chess. there's 10 X the mental work being done.
we watch boxing, in part, because of the violence. that's literally what you score in boxing.
"who won the round?" "well, who did the most damage?"
don't deny that you find violence and contact compelling.
if anyone thinks that a brawler with no skills can become top 10 in the world in his division, then you have to believe that boxing technique just isnt that effective. if all this practicing of technique, day after day, year after year, cant stop a rock em sock em robot from becoming world class, how much of a difference does it really make?
i prefer aggressive fighters, whether they be boxers or brawlers. a self preservation first mentality just doesnt appeal to me in combat sports.
I do box and there is a big difference in feinting and picking your shots an counter punching. As to just walk around the ring like a clown and eat a bunch of shots and throw and miss most of the time. LOL if your really think rios has any skill

I like fighters that neutralize their opponents best weapon. So that tells you I like FMJ, Ward, Rigo, Hopkins, etc.. But.... I like how Kovalev was able to neutralize Hopkins by controlling distance and How Khan made Alexander follow him around all night. I feel it's nothing for 2 people to get in the ring and stand there and throw punches all night at each other using their faces as a type of defense. Neither fighter knows how to slip a punch nor do they care to. To me those are tough man competition fights and fighters and not boxers or boxing matches. I appreciate all fighters that show a good offense and a good defense. They don't have to be the hardest punchers or the fastest punchers, but they do need to show some skills.
And how many times have you actually tested out this theory?
Put them in with Rigo Lara and Mayweather and they cant win a round there is your answer , sluggers are for the casual fan that doesnt understand the science of boxing .
Who would win if Vernon Forrest fought Ricardo Mayorga?
Oh wait.....
