Just been hearing chatter from Sulaiman lately but, what he says doesn't really matter. The boxing fans have been hoping that he and the WBC would have made boxing in a better state than it is today, but they failed.
The WBC failed the boxing fans by failing to impose mandatory fights for champions who hold their belts, strip champions of belts, or impose default loss records to champions who refuse to fight a mandatory challenger.
This also applies to all the other boxing sanctioning bodies to just "self-destruct".
He should have taken the 154 pound wbc world title away from Mayweather since he won it at 152 and he has not defended it in a very long time and apparently has no intention of ever defending it. If Mayweather announced that his next fight would be a defense of his 154 pound titles at the correct weight limit of 154 then let him keep his 154 pound titles but otherwise he should step down or be stripped of both 154 pound world titles and let the other top contenders have a chance to win those titles..
This is completely true when Jose reigned. Now that he's gone, the WBC seems to be taking steps in the right direction, as others have mentioned.
IMO, the WBC title is the most recognized and prestigious belt among all the other million alphabet titles. I say do away with the other ones (IBF, WBO, IBO). Two titles in each division (WBC and WBA) would sit just fine with me, I'm all about unification bouts.
the WBA is the worst of them all, allowing up too as many as 3 champions in one division.
The IBF are the ones who are the most strict when it comes too mandatories.
Sulaiman the Younger is like Pope Francis to Don Jose's Pope Benedict. He's been saying and doing the right things so far.
Wouldn't anticipate any miracles though, they're still the WBC.

All they did is find a way to make more money, but they seem to be doing it in a way that is better for the sport. Not too much to be mad about if it actually works.
Mauricio Sulaiman's short reign has been hugely positive so far. There have been plenty of years to complain about the WBC's actions but right now they seem to be making a lot of positive steps. Hopefully it will continue.
Yup, what they're saying sounds great... let's see if they actually enforce it though

The whole WBC mando stuff sounds good so far with GGG/Cotto, The HW picture, LHW division and so on.... but it all comes down to if they enforce it... if not, they're just spouting the same old shit

Sulaiman and the WBC are useless and should just be abolished | BoxingScene Community
