I don't think it's dead.. It's actually produced some great action fights over the last decade or so..
What hurts it is that the Titlists don't fight each other, and they don't get much TV exposure.. But with guys like huck and others, it's actually a pretty entertaining division, of guys fight each other
No Americanos so it doesn't exist.
There are plenty of good fighters and like a lot of divisions the best matchups don't happen but doesn't mean there's no talent, there is you just have to actually try to follow it.
No less than what 2 years ago there was Jones/Lebedev-Huck/Afolabli-Wlod/Chakiev-Hernandez/Cunningham-Hernandez/Ross.
WBC has mandated Makabu/Mchunu to fight that's a highly anticipated fight for the division.
There seems to never be threads, news or any talk about this division at all..
Last time the division was good was the Bell/Mormeck/Braithwaite days, with Jirov/Toney being the last great cruiser fight, imo.

I think this is another American misconception.i mean all the top guys aren't from the states so I presume this is where these posts come from.
Although it doesn't help with guys like Huck defended 14 times against complete duds, and not taking a competitive defence since they did in fact lose to Lebedev ! Their really needs to be more unifications and stricter federations in the division.
Things should heat up in the division the next 12 months or so,the wealth of talent has never been as deep.
When Tony Bellew is in line for a shot, you know what's going on.
Has a few good fighters, but none that excite me really. Maybe I'm just not exposed to them.
If anyone could tell me something about some of the exciting cruiserweights, please let me know.
Huck isn't doing it for me, that's for sure!
Hopefully someone like Kovalev will go up once he's cleaned up. Bring some excitement into the division. Make Cleverly run back to light heavyweight.
When has the Cruiserweight Division ever been ALIVE? When Holyfield was a Cruiserweight Maybe? David Haye had a good run as a Cruiserweight.
I don't remember it ever being a Hot Division. It could Heat Up in 2015 though with Edwin Rodriguez and Tony Bellew now in the Division.
I agree that the division is not dead but this is hardly true. The division has had many better years previously.
The mid to late 80s was the best (the Holyfield-Qawi fights being its height) but this era we are entering could well be better, especially when it comes to depth. The 90s and 00s didn't have the depth that there seems to be right now.
None of the top fighters are from the USA or the UK, and that's why it doesn't receive much attention. But the division is loaded with talent:
Usyk, Makabu, Mchunu, Kudryashov, Drozd, Lebedev, Huck, Hernandez, etc.
Needs a US with vision to invest in a big-punching Usyk or Makabu to get people interested. No way people wouldn't tune in to watch those two, interest in the division would flow from there.
yoan pablo hernandez is a good cruiserweight. I havn't really followed his career and woulda thought he would have moved to heavyweight by now.
He'd get folded at HW.
The best thing about the cruiserweight division is that the champions and at least half a dozen or more of the top contenders are very evenly matched and therefore you have seen a number of very competitive match-ups in recent years and hopefully far more to come. I'd say that the cruiserweight division is probably entering, or has already entered, the best period of the divisions short history.

It's dead and Eddie Chambers will take over the division, easy work. :o
Bellew will move back down to light heavy soon enough after he found out he's even less relevant at cruiserweight.
Mchunu raped chamberss ass
That Italian was giving huck problems.
Huck's arsenal is limited.
He did catch a second wind in that fight though.
He might be the most paid but there are more dangerous cruisers than Huck (or even Hernandez) in my opinion.

And I think that's absolutely criminal, the division isn't dead however it's not as strong as it has been in the past.
It's peak was probably the mid to late 80s and then the rebirth in the early to mid 00s.
Even now there are some good fighters and there have been some damn exciting fights. Guys like Huck, Afolabia, Lebedev, Jones have all given us fireworks and made the division interesting at times. It's a shame that the guy considered top dog (isn't really) is a guy who fights almost as many times as Ward and has a bit of a yellow streak.
Most definitely. Hes a very fortunate world champion hiding out in Germany who has had a lot of gift decisions.
I felt Afolabi beat him and Arslan, Lebedev most certainly did.
I feel if he fought the best he'd be fringe top 10. He is the weakest champion at the weight IMO

I think tunney is right on this.
