Maybe the kds reminded some of the dynamo of the 2000's but lets be real
Algieri is a good fighter....he is a top ten jww...he beat Emmanuel Taylor and Provodnikov but no one in the stratosphere of a true world champion or Hall of famer
He is a great story, a humble guy, but he was made to order for Pacquaio...8 kos in 20 plus fights and no legit wins at welterweight....it was more of a showcase than a competitive match up
people still pretending berto was a top welterweight? berto was ranked above guys like cotto and clottey. based on what? those other guys losing. he didn't actually do anything. i personally will always rank guys who lost tough fights to top fighters over unproven guys. it would be like ranking eleidar alvarez over kovalev if stevenson beat kovalev in a tough fight. kovalev losst and alvarez is undefeated...berto was overrated. ortiz was overrated for beating berto. pac, floyd, khan, brook, bradley, thurman, and possibly even maidana would be ranked above berto if berto was still undefeated right now.
If you have the skills to expose Berto, Berto is in big trouble. Berto has no defense. ZERO. ZILTCH. NADA. RIEN. NIENTE! He needs to somehow resolve that. May be too late in his career for that but it is what it is.
Manny fought Mosley because it was expected to do better PPV numbers than the unkown Berto.
Berto had a below average resume. It was pointed out on these boards often. Berto got exposed.
Again IDGAF HOW good u think Berto is, if he is in that top 3 someone needed to fight him. Pac didnt fight Shane because of PPV buys. Thats just the excuse they gave to avoid Berto. And Ortiz didnt expose Berto! He scraight up beat the shiat out of Berto and earned a Floyd fight!
Floyd fights unknown fighters all the time and he already knows they wont help him get any ppv buys. But whether your a big name, small name, whatever, once u come into that top 3 you are in line for a Floyd fight!
So fighters like Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya, and Erik Morales can choose their opponents gloves and it's fine, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. can't because you decided it's not fair. Gotcha
You are trying to convince yourself that it was right for Floyd ..... well, it still isn't.
Maidana was promoted to the PPV audience as a KO artist. You remove those gloves kinda makes you lie to the PPV audience. In the polls here, Maidana's only slim chance was by KO. Floyd tried to remove that.
Floyd always says "all I want is a fair fight" .... that is a lie.
Maidana was a cherry pick. You remove the gloves and know that he gasses in his fights, well, FLoyd can do what he wants but then us as boxing fans can criticize on which version of Maidana fought and criticize Floyd. :lol1:
lmao the great Andre Berto
Yea in hindsight berto sucks but manny chose to fight Shane coming off 2 losses over the undefeated hard hitting berto
Negro IDGAF HOW good or bad you think Berto is!
If he is in that top three, and someone comes along and kix thadazzz, then you are automatically in line for a Floyd fight. All of Floyd's opponents fight their way up the division to get a fight with him, its nothing new!
And Pac actually DID think Berto was great because he refused to fight him!

It's not a great win but a good win. Algieri isn't as "low" as many haters think but he isn't on the same level of Pacquiao obviously. I said it is good because of the size, length and the styles compelling contrasting sides...
It is obvious that Mayweather and Pacquiao - both have been running out of legitimate contenders against their supremacy and thus their supposed inevitable debacle.
No, I just tend to over-explain. Let me make a simple post:
Barrera-Morales: interesting / compelling fights no matter what gloves are used
Floyd-Chino: only factor that made it look potentially competitive / interesting is Maidana's one-punch power (otherwise the fight looked to be one-sided) and Floyd had to handicap his opponent's ONLY strength. It was a middle finger to fight fans, period.

Does Nate Campbell have to battle across the stars because he is the galaxy warrior? Look at all this scrambling you had to do due to a sentence to try to rationalize your position.

bro face it.....algieri is not a top ten welterweight and the only thing exposed is you trying to hype him into something he never was and your biase towards anything pacquaio does....out of all the guys you mentioned only sharmba mitchell never beat a top 10 ww, which was floyds first opponent at the weight...marquez went on to knock pac the **** out after floyd outclassed him...pacquaio has fought at ww for over 6 years and if he is gonna fight brios or algieri he should move down to 140.i never said any of those wins were "great" but beating a top ten ranked guy in your weight class is better than beating a no name who holds a trinket who isnt even ranked at your weight
since you are so getting a hard on about this I will ask everyone else's opinion
:pat: You still don't get it or trying to pretend.
I already told you what I thought of Algieri the other day. The thing is that your posts are riddled with inconsistencies.
I repeat, you said that "bradley is not considered an established ww"
So with that line alone, that should remove many Floyd opponents because I listed at least 5 direct names who had only 0, 1 or 2 fights at WW.
Then I said all Maidana did to get the fight with Floyd was beating Broner.
Being that you stated what you stated about ALgieri, I did the same on Maidana's Broner:
- Broner had fought at 130 a little over a year earlier.
- Broner who is currently ranked below Ruslan and Alvarado.
- Broner who struggled with Taylor while it was relatively easy for Algieri
Then I stated that how good a fight can it be when you remove a KO artist his punchers gloves? How? Please explain that to me?
Then I told you that the polls here had Algieri and Maidana given the same amount of a chance of beating Manny/Floyd. Even Hanzgruber thought that Algieri would win yet he is in this thread hating now.
Oh yes, then I pointed out that we knew how Maidana has NOT shown us that he can beat a boxer and gave the example Devon who lost to Porter, Khan and Bradley.
Floyd then went on to do a poll of 2 cherries where the one who lost the poll got the fight.
So if you are trying to analyze the situation, both Maidana and Algieri stood little chance. Algieri had the potential to make Manny look bad due to his height and boxing while Maidana had the chance to make Floyd look bad due to his style. But win? Same chances. Maidana had no gloves and gasses in his fights. Algieri was undefeated, boxes very well but lacks experience.
You can't get yourself to say that taking into account all of the above that Maidana pick was not great ..... I told you the other day and can say it again today, it wasn't a great pick for Manny. Too many unknowns for who was ALgieri .... but with my logic, those who I listed for Floyd were also unknowns at WW. As for Maidana, read the above post.
BTW- Who says its a great win for Manny? Algieri was never given the chance to come out of his cage .... bad trainer lol!
.
Wrong! Ortiz beat the number 2 fighter at WW and he became the man in the top three after doing so!
Lampley commented that no one at ww would fight Ortiz, and once Floyd chose him as a foe Lampley changed his mind and said Floyd only fought him because he didnt throw any jabs lol.
Anyone who comes into the top 3 automatically is in line for a Floyd fight IDGAF if u beat Berto or whoever!
Pacman wouldnt even fight Berto, he opted to fight Shane and Shane didnt deserve a fight with Pac after losing to Floyd lol
lmao the great Andre Berto
Yeah but there's 2 critical differences between the Floyd and Morales situations:
(1) Floyd is about 100 times the technician Maidana is and the only intrigue the fight carried was Maidana's ability to end a fight with one shot (b/c we all knew Maidana wasn't going to outbox Floyd, lol)
The modicum of intrigue that the Floyd-Maidana fights had was extinguished by Floyd's refusal to let Maidana wear an approved horsehair glove (the same style that Guerrero had worn without objection from Team Floyd)
When Morales fought Pac, Barrera, Garcia -- those guys actually had more than a puncher's chance of winning so gloves didn't totally eliminate the intrigue & the potential for a competitive matchup
(2) Morales never claimed to be TBE, so he is held to average standards. If you say you're the best to ever do it, you shouldn't need to handicap the *ONLY* attribute (power) in which your opponent has an edge -- Floyd is literally superior to Maidana in every other boxing skill/attribute
Does Nate Campbell have to battle across the stars because he is the galaxy warrior? Look at all this scrambling you had to do due to a sentence to try to rationalize your position.
What did Ortiz do? Beat another hypejob in Berto and got thumped up by Maidana before, and he's not that fast.

Victor Ortiz wasnt a cherrypick. Floyd had just come off the Mosley fight, and Mosley was old remember? But if he could hurt Floyd, then Ortiz who was 10 yrs younger than Floyd, volume punching, fast southpaw, who weighed 164lbs would surely be able to! Floyd dont fight cherrypicks you all just keep repeating it just to discredit him.
Ortiz was also the 2 fighter in the division. Rios was def a bum and always has been.

No, the safest picks for Floyd and Pac (post-Oscar)
were Victor and Bam Bam respectively. Those two
were the definition of tailor-made in terms of boxing
style.

Floyd isn't the first person to choose someone's gloves. But Floyd picks gloves and again, it's the end of the world lol. You know morales made PAC Garcia Barrera wear pillows

Algeri was a fight that should have never happened. In fact I believe it did more worse than good. Pacquiao fighting a junior welterweight which no real boxing fan felt he would win and people want to claim it was a big win; it's down right ridiculous. It's the second fight in 3, we're an opponent Pacquiao fought shouldn't have been in there.
"peeleft:
It is not maidana losing to devon or khan or whoelse. it is Floyd fighting maidana TWICE both of them with pillow gloves. he could have given maidana his preferred gloves the second time around to prove doubters that the gloves has no bearing anyways. but no he did not
floyd is known for winning on points pac is not and look at the score on algierri and he did that without the sweet science of hugging and running.
Floyd isn't the first person to choose someone's gloves. But Floyd picks gloves and again, it's the end of the world lol. You know morales made PAC Garcia Barrera wear pillows
