Miguel Cotto was on hand at the WBC Convention and while the masses were celebrating the past and the future at the Convention, the focus of Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez could not be escaped by Cotto. Is the deal done? Is it close? Miguel Cotto played Miguel Cotto well with a poker face and poker answerws
Were just waiting on our dance partner. Were always going to pick the best option,; Cotto told ThaBoxingVoice.com. All weve discussed with Canelo is up in the air, all is negotiations, and there is nothing definite at this point.
Oscar De La Hoya had went public letting the world know that Canelo had agreed to his part of the deal, Cottos response was, If its done in Oscar*s mind and in Bobs (Arum) mind but in Miguel Cottos mind, its not.
When asked about his newly announced mandatory Gennady Golovkin, Cotto stated, Hes a great fighter and a great champions and well see what happens next.
Cotto told ThaBoxingVoice that the Canelo side now has his terms and the balls in their court now.
Weve made what we wanted clear to the other side and now were waiting on the other side to respond, explained Cotto. Miguels always going to go to what benefits Miguel the most, so now were just waiting. All I want is the best for my career. I didnt put any conditions on Canelo. Im simply just letting them know what I think Im worth and earned the right to do so throughout the years. The balls in their court so now they can decide what they want to do.
Cotto said the date and venue have no preference and anything being mentioned is all rumors in the air.
Theres nothing concrete right now so im going to be patient and its all speculation so well see what the new year brings.

I wouldn't say the 1,600 seat difference is negligible. That would depend on the average ticket price. If the average ticket price is $500, that's 800K more for the gate at MSG. But I think the average ticket price is higher in Vegas than MSG.
Agreed
With respect to seat price however I think it depends on the fighter really. I think cotto vs Canelo tickets would be priced similarly in either ny or lv. But I do concede the money power of lv casinos. I do know they buy up a bunch of tickets to give to there high rollers. So that in all probability raises ticket prices due to deep pockets.
Cotto keeping it real...
Don't care about dates, and stipulations and all the politics,,,
He is basically saying " I don't give a sh,t about anything, pay me and I will fight whoever, whenever, where ever..."
That's why I have always loved cotto...
If Cotto-Canelo happens in May, I think that brings the chance of Mayweather-Pacquiao happening down from 1% to 0%.
Mayweather-Cotto II is better than Cotto-Canelo IMO. But I understand if you'd rather see something fresh.
Let's all just hold out hope for manny vs floyd and cotto vs canelo. That's what we all want. I don't care what months they go in. Let's just get these two next already. These both would be HUGE boxing events in here in the states.
challenge wise you are right, but i see many people involved in this fight going for the most profitable option, not just canelo...
Yes, but those 'profitable' options come packaged with disadvantages for Cotto, and advantages in favor of Canelo. And that dilutes the 'profitability' standpoint for Team Cotto.
MSG seating capacity: 18,200
MGM seating capacity: 16,800
So, it doesn't really matter if its at the MGM or MSG, since the seating capacity is about the same. Canelo wants MGM for the Mexican crowd and Cotto wants MSG for the Puerto-Rican crowd.
Cotto is the A-Side so it will be in MSG ...... :lol1: Regardless of what ODLH, Arum or Canelo thinks.
Don't forget that Cotto is a "G" and wants it his way or the highway.
if that was the case the fight will take place at jerry's world or the alamodome, hard to beat that...
He's fought in Vegas 3 times already on someone else's homecourt. Why can't Canelo do it just once?

These fools will never learn. But Cotto is letting them HAVE IT, blasting their assumed dreams away. :lol1:

For this fight, the price is irrelevant because the Mexicans will pay top dollar if in Vegas. And if in New York, the Puerto Ricans will pay top dollar for tickets. Tickets will get sold out lightning fast. New York is more likely of a venue, than Vegas. And that's all I gotta say.

money... that date and venue will bring more money for him and everyone involved... with money dances the dog....

Why would Cotto want to fight on May 2? In Vegas?
The best move for him would be to fight in NYC on the day of the Puerto Rican Day at a packed Madison Square Garden or maybe even in Yankee Stadium.
