This seems to be a real trend. Garcia's fighters have lately been getting fat either coming in overweight or outgrowing their divisions. Brandon can't diet down to an effective weight. Rubio came in over. Donaire seemed to move up after garcia. And maidana always seems chubby.
Why is this? It seems strange because it only just happens after he starts training them. Margarito is the only high profile case I can think of that didn't get fat.

Bro have you ever ate authentic Mexican food? Not that tex-mex taco bell crap
They might wanna move the gym to Alaska cause mexican food is nyquil...instant itis
I consider Garcia to be a good trainer overall. He teaches his guys skillfull boxing and techniques but he pretty much gives his fighters all the liberty when it comes to conditioning. He needs to be a bit harder on them and incorporate that into his camps instead of 'outsourcing' it.
Yeah, that's what bothers me. They spend so much time on skill but don't have the conditioning to follow through. I mean through nutrition they can make weight just fine. But like other posters say it seems that they all do is on trying to fight in classes they don't belong in.
But no matter how much they move up, they still have trouble. Rios looks like he has as much trouble making 147 as he did making 135. Mikey too, he fought once at 130 and is already talking 140.
Donaire is probably the only fighter there who doesn't look like he's having weight problems anymore.
He won the belt then defended it at 130, in his recent interview he said he's gonna go to 135 first.
If a fighter comes in overweight its a complete break down on the staff as a whole. These corners shouldn't be trying to hit the weight right on the button the day of.

I always got the impression Garcia was never too bothered because he wanted his fighters to win, meaning he looks good.
Better chance of winning coming in overweight, with a weight advantage, than having his fighters killing themselves or weakening themselves to make weight.
If you win, the vast majority don't care if you come in overweight, just look at Salido-Lomachenko or Mayweather-Marquez. Cheating the weight gets forgotten.
Thus, it was great to see an overweight Rubio stopped by a true professional like Golovkin.
That's exactly what I think, they do it on purpose. They can make the weight, they just don't want to because their limited and need every advantage possible.

That's true. And Garcia isn't his "trainer" anymore either, right?
I've never been entirely clear on what Garcia's role is with Donaire at all. All Donaire's training is or at least used to be done at the Undisputed Gym in San Carlos. And it's not like Robert is some legendary trainer with decades of experience behind him who gets paid for that alone.
Garcia got a lot of credit for doing little more than giving Donaire water between rounds on fight night.

Donaire isn't part of Garcia's gym. He doesn't even train there.
robert's son has mentioned how mikey gets fat between fights and at one point got proper fat
and i see alot of them having trouble if they aren't turning themselves into skeletons(mikey rios for e.g, remember?) to pick on marginally smaller men
rios looked very soft in his last fight, robert garcia doesn't seem to have a clue on how to condition, he thinks it's just about work work, punch punch so you dont get tired....
Because they are all big guys shrinking down to fight little fighters.
Garcia, Rios, Donaire and so on all did it.
Beating up on little guys and fooling people into believing they're top p4p fighters which clearly is not the case.

Tbh I just thought the bbqs were a one off on weekends and not a frequent thing. Kind of makes me laugh because in the mayweather-maidana build up the narrator says maidana has to give up the good he likes when training. It then cuts to a bbq with garcia. I mean you don't need chris Algieri style nutrition but it would certainly help. I mean this walks around at 180 for gods sake! Mikey seems well conditioned when he gets in the ring but he has missed weight before and the fact they are discussing him moving up to 140 is a bad sign that he has outgrown his division. Even on Ellie seckbach videos he sometimes looks fat in the face. It just seems like a strange way of doing things
