Kahn has looked good lately but I think he is the same fighter. Even vs Alexander he admitted he lost his composure and wanted to trade. The minute he does that with a heavy hitter, he will be doing that "funky chicken" step of his!
He's improved in some areas; he's altered his approach more than his technique. He throw less punches now, and clinches a lot more. It's not quite as exciting but it means he's able to stay effective for more rounds instead of slowing down considerably in the 2nd half of fights. I've also noticed he rarely goes to the body these days which is disappointing because he's an excellent body puncher.
There're some other changes too that I've noticed. He now disguises his jab more and seems to be developing a nice lead left hook which he was able to throw over Alexander's jab because of his height and speed.
He did lunge in a few times against Alexander though and almost got caught. Against a light puncher like Alexander it didn't cost him, but against a fully-fledged WW whom can bang he could be in real trouble if he doesn't make some adjustments, and don't care how good his trainer is old habits die hard.
Seriously Kev,Amir was gonna rematch that cheating sob Peterson, until they tested his ass and found him doped up to the fu.cking eyeballs.
Matchmaking ain't the problem at all,if it was then why would Amir's team put him in against Maidana at the time when Maidana was the most feared puncher in the division when Amir had his clock cleaned by Prescott?
Don't you think they would of kept Khan well clear if they knew his chin was sh.it?
Amir can take a good punch,it's just his willingness to throw back when really he should look to be safe. That's what's Hunter has done to Khan, telling him why play devils advocate when Khan has all the skills in the world to beat these guys.
good post..
We'll see, ideally I'd like a Danny Garcia rematch more than anything. If Khan can change his speed, keep composure and keep his combinations to a minimum against Garcia, I'm curious to know how well he does. Garcia however, already had Khan's timing down as early as the second round.
That's a great fight, but Garcia would be new to the weight, so it's a step back from Brook who is an established WW with a title. Everything just seems perfect with that bout.
Forgot to add in my previous post that instead of aggressive, fighters like D.Gar who can counter are worse for Khan. If Khan could handle Maidana/Peterson aggressive he can sure handle Guerrero/Porter too. "Timing beats speed" phrase has never been truer than in Khan's case.
I most definitely agree.
He scraped by Diaz, but that was only his 2nd fight with Hunter, so benefit of the doubt.
Now it's time for Khan to take his newly acquired/improved arsenal against a hard/decent punching Orthodox fighter. I think his name is Brook, that's definitely it. I'm not gonna complain if he gets Mayweather, but that'd be a mega event, a belt, heavy pay day and say he beats him that's great prep because he is right handed, very accurate and can punch harder than Mayweather at this point.

Khan was perceived as very good under Roach, beating an old and shot MAB, Salita, Malignaggi, Kotelnyk, all light punchers and finally a puncher in Maidana, who Roach threatened to throw the towel against.
Then there is also the fact that Khan never in his career rematched the fighters that beat him.
Molina can't punch, Diaz is a decent puncher and he hurt and almost beat Khan, Alexander can't punch at 147. Basically it's matchmaking. There's nothing wrong with Roach, nothing wrong with Hunter, it's just Khan's punch resistance is sh*t and his best trainer is a good matchmaker. If he gets a good matchmaker, he can make him his trainer too, cause that's all he needs. Khan has the skills, speed, stamina to train himself, he's a Silver medalist. The matchmakers have to look out for him, there's nothing Roach, Hunter, Nacho, R. Garcia, or any trainer from the past 100 years could do to stop Khan from getting KD'ed from any decent puncher.
That's the most bothersome part about his career. I want to see if these improvements can translate well against someone like Porter, Maidana II, Garcia II, Thurman or Brook, that will answer the TS' question.

Everyone talking about how Amir has matured.....His only ever problem was he liked to have a tear-up.
He also didn't pick his punches well and a sloppy defense, still not great, but decent.

You honestly can not say the bold, Khan barely got by Julio Diaz and I don't think it's a coincidence that was the last aggressive fighter he faced, one with decent pop as well. We're all familiar with what he did against Kotelnik, Malignaggi where he boxed smart, so it's not like this is anything new. There is no telling how he'll react when he's in there against an aggressive fighter who knows how to work his way in, no telling if he's gonna be as composed as we've seen in his last two fights. Me, I doubt it.

I saw significant improvements in Khan's ring craft and movement under Virgil Hunter for the first time last Saturday night.
Khan is always vulnerable to a pressure fighter / puncher
The Alexander fight was very one sided, and Devon was very one dimensional.
Khan has just matured mentally...
He isn't green anymore like we was vs Prescott and barrera
He isn't reckless like he was vs Maidana, danny, Lamont
He is at a point where his ring IQ has matured and khan is still in his physical prime.. It's a small window in a fighters career but it's usually when they are at their peak..think floyd at 140 or roy at 168 early 175 days, etc.. That's where khan is at this point in his career..

how do I put this...
Amir Khan is a purer display of his boxing gifts under the tutelage of Virgil Hunter.
He's got height, he's got fast hands, and seems to now be able to comfortably dictate range with his opponents. As a straight boxer, Hunter has shined Khan into being a real p4p threat.
Only issue is that he's still Amir Khan; he's got the heart of fighter, he's open to getting hit clean in exchanges, and his chin isn't the best.
Will basically come down to how you match him. He'll be hell on Earth for a guy like Alexander, but he'd have his own nightmares with guys like Danny Garcia, Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Marcos Maidana. Hunter's working with him, but his instinct is his instinct.
I think he is a lot calmer in the ring, which allows him to think about what he's doing. I think he always had the technical ability, just not the mentality to perform the skills to their fullest.
However, i think if he fought Garcia again, he'd still get iced once Garcia worked out his timing again, it only took him 3 rounds last time. I just think elite timing is his kryptonite, especially when it comes with power. It doesn't mean he hasn't improved though. I still think a good inside fighter like Peterson would give him trouble every time as well.
He has improved, but i believe he will be KO'd every so often still.
Yeah, I think its only a matter of time till khan gets stopped again.. I don't see floyd doing it, but manny, Danny 2, thurman, etc could stop him...
I think he is still wide open when he throws that quick 4 punch combo he kept landing early in Devon.. It's that straight left, right, left, right combo.. The 2nd left and right Kahn really lunges in and exposes himself to a counter down the middle or a hook.. Devon wasn't able to capitalize but eventually someone will
