Sugarcoat it how you like but the Algieri fight does nothing to his legacy,
I truly do not believe that fight fans like me are going to spend $50-75 to buy this on PPV.
Algieri did absolutely nothing against a limited Provodnikov to deserve this fight, in-fact many believe he lost that fight (including myself.)
We all know the Mayweather fight won't happen, but why Algieri? Why not Bradley again? They are split at one a piece.
Why not Amir Khan who was calling him around the time the Algieri fight was being put together?
How about Canelo Alvarez? Why not JMM or Danny Garcia?
I do recall Adrian Broner saying he would fight Manny?
There where plenty of other fights out there for Manny and his boss Bob Arum choose Algieri. Why? The line his own pockets.
How Manny could agree to such a joke of a fight I will never know, he still has alot to give.
Now they are talking about Jesse Vargas next?
It's embarrassing. Manny needs to leave Top Rank ASAP and get the final pay cheques he deserves.
if they wanted to fight sh-itty opponents they would have picked ortiz, guerrero, maidana, judah, mitchell, baldomir etc...algeiri is a tall undefeated slick boxer not a face first brawler like you know who only fights.
Come on, daggum. Do you have to play comedian every time?
I hate saying that Manny should just hang it up because I enjoy watching him perform, but if he's going to fight dudes like this, then yeah, it's time.
I can almost give him a pass on the Algieri fight because Manny is coming off a fight with a P4P-er, but Algieri & Vargas back to back? That's just embarrassing.
We still have to wait and see if this Vargas talk actually comes to fruition, but if it does....
:pat:
I definitely agree. I'm not going to count out Algieri but with the loaded division that 147 is right now. Hearing talks of him fighting Vargas next is non sense. We will see though...
If you can only talk about 1, then you should not talk at all.
This has been going on for a while now and back then no one wanted to speak out. Just think about it: Turn down an even split fight against Mayweather to fight Clottey. Horrible. While Mayweather fights the guy considered the most dangerous challenger in the division. Then it just got worse. The Margarito fight was bad. Mosley atrocious. And at the time he fought Marquez very few thought he could be competitive at welter (having been rocked and dropped in his two fights at 135 and getting shutout by Mayweather). Bradley has been his toughest opponent going into a fight in five years and that's just not cool. So after he loses his toughest opponent is Bradley again. Sandwiched between Rios, Algieri and God knows who else. Unacceptable.
Mayweather vs Guerrero, Ortiz, Baldomir, Mitchell, Gatti, Bruseles, Corely, N'dou, Sosa, etc......And yet you want to talk about resorting to C-Level fighters. :lol1:
On top of that, Mayweather just had two fights with someone that can be classified as a C level guy in Maidana. SMH!
These fights happened over a decade ago.....Ortiz was a world champ at ww..baldo was lineal champ at ww and Maidana was also a champ at ww...guererro was a interim champ at ww..Algeri is not even a ww...just saying.....everyone you listed were atleast fighting in Floyds division and champions or highly ranked
At the end of the day it's probably deeper than we think.
1. I don't doubt for a second that Pacquiao is willing to face anyone, anywhere, anytime. He is the greatest warrior of this generation.
2. His promoter is both shrewd and brilliant.
It's not like Pacquiao hasn't tried to leave before. GBP did entice him with 500K with cash. But somehow he ended up having to pay them and Top Rank both for years. There has to be some reason why he re-signed with Arum. He had to have known that he could make so many high-profile fights as a free agent. And he didn't have to sh*t on Arum. Miguel Cotto didn't. And if Manny did, he could always try to come back like Oscar is doing. Money has a way of smoothing a lot of things over. But he didn't and we're left with opponents like Algieri, Alvarado, Abregu, Rios and Vargas. Horrible. At this point it takes a dedicated fan to put Manny ahead of Mayweather. But at the rate he's going his risking everything facing these guys. What if he loses to one of them?
Makes sense fight a tall guy as a tune up, before you move down and fight smaller guys at a lower weight divison.
Your logic makes perfect sense.
Says the guy who wants Pac to fight a guy in negotiations for the linear MW title. I would say a fight with a 140 lb title holder makes more sense than that. You know, for a guy moving back to 140 towards the end of his career. Coming off of a brutal KO loss, followed by 2 tough 12 rounders with top opposition.

I'll be upset when he rematches a guy like Maidana. I consider Algieri a tuneup as Pac moves back down to 140 to fight guys closer to his size.

Bradley again? Nobody wants to see another whitewash.
Khan/Broner each deserve nothing.
Danny Garcia sounds good but who knows. Btw, the beef it Arum-Haymon, and Pacquiao isn't the one personally choosing his opponents (unlike Floyd).
Canelo is too big.
Yeah if he was under Oscar things there would be more opportunities, but Pacquiao felt loyal to Arum for building him up to PPV success.
End thread. Don't reply people, we don't want a 20 page sh*tstorm.
I agree with everything you have said, apart from Bradley. I do believe a third fight would be more appealing then Algieri.
Khan is more deserving then Algieri as is Broner.
