We can all talk about Willie Pep, Pernell Whitaker and Sugar Ray Robinson. Worth mentioning Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Jack Johnson and Nicolino Locche.
But Mayweather is the greatest defensive fighter we have ever seen. He approaches not getting hit with the mental dexterity of a savant, and is head and shoulders beyond anyone else in the history of the sport.
It was shocking to see Shane Mosley actually hit him cleanly, let alone rock him badly. But all Mayweather did for the rest of the night was become Mariano Rivera, and close him out.
Whatever your feelings on Floyd, he's an unquestioned all-time great and one of the greatest fighters to have ever lived.
He's an extremely athletic blend of Roy Jones and James Toney, with an emphasis on defense first and foremost.
Pac has climbed several weight classes. He's still a harder puncher than Floyd!
There has never in the history of boxing been a fighter that has combined the power, speed, workrate and fury and heart compressed into 1 little fighter.
Floyd knows it's unbeatable, otherwise he'd fight him!
If he's degraded at all since those times, he is clearly still whacking guys around now.
How's Floyd doing lately?
Getting pasted by Maidana, (Manny LITE)
There has been 2 before Pacq Henry Armstrong and Sam Langford.
Drug addict rapist poochio couldn’t get near him
you're talking about floyd right? Drug addicts family, womwn beater etc... LMAO.
Relax bro. I'm just agreeing with u. Too much Hugging and running is part of his defense and floyd showed it in the ring.
--- TUE best defense was the Vegas commish, USADA, and Bayless, Cortez, Byrd, ect along with his Vegas judges.
Seen him whooped too many times to think his def was any good unless you count running.
He has it all from a defensive standpoint.
He is quick and precise with his footwork
He has insanely fast reflexes
He is disciplined with keeping his chin tucked and his right hand up while he jabs
He has the technical skills, like the shoulder roll and the clinch
He is a punishing counter puncher even if his power is long gone
He has the knowledge
He doesn't get rattled
And when you actually do catch him with a good shot, his chin holds up. Ask Zab or Mosley.
People always hate Floyd but his peak was higher than sweet pea and his consistency over the past 30 years is unmatched even compared to atg like sugar ray, Hagler, Chavez.
If Floyds hands werent so brittle, Im sure he would have tko more fighters.
And Floyd has mastered multiple defensive postures all from orthodox.... Every single fighter he fought had a plan to beat him until Floyd showed them that its almost impossible to execute against him.
You go too aggressive, he has the Philly shell.
You want to box, he will put on a clinic.
I'm trying to think of someone who out boxed Floyd ever. I've seen mosley rock him and Castillo was a good fight but can't name one fighter in Floyds Era that could have been him.
Seriously.... Who could beat Floyd at his prime p4p? Only Rjj for me and that's because you couldn't t win for Rjj offense. It was like a pitcher who throws 105 mph
I just feel there's more he could have done to cement himself as one of the greatest.
Mayweather is the #1 pound for pound fighter of all time according to Boxrec. How much more did you want him to do?
I didn't even know Robinson was supposed to be in that conversation but I have no problem with Floyd being considered #1 defense. He's the most focused, consistent, efficient defensive fighter I know.
I agree, he probably has the best defense in history of boxing, it wasn't just his shoulder roll his reflexes were insane.
True. His reflexes and footwork where special
"and one of the greatest fighters to have ever lived"...............
Seriously you need a hobby the brown nose you write with has taken over your brain.
If you want to reference Mayweather as a highly qualified defensive boxer I have to agree but to define him as one of the "greatest fighter who ever lived" is absurd. He was a pure boxer and as a welter could not be labeled as a "fighter".
At 130 he could compete in the history of boxing but at 147 he doesn't break into the top tier of men by a long shot.
Fanboys are a disturbing group they want to live their lives through others, kind of sad!
Ray
well yea thats because he fights shorter guys most of the time where he can play backfoot and potshot with his longer reach
When did Floyd ever fight taller slick boxers who actually had good boxing skills themselves? He did well against certain styles.
