This is not an attack on Klitschko I think he's been a great champion but since him and his brother took over, HW boxing has no longer been mainstream.
I miss the days when everyone knew who the world HW champion was, the days you'd walk down the street and people would be talkiking about the upcoming HW fight. Men and women of all ages would would gather round to discuss the heavyweight division.
The days of Tyson, Holyfield and Lennox. The general public miss those days, no matter who you were or where you came from you'd have your favorite HW. Those days now seem long gone.
Which up n coming fighter of the new crop do you think could bring those days back?
there wasnt much clinching in that fight. it was just a lopsided kayo for wlad. watch the fight before you comment
Agreed, the better+shorter opponents who bull rush Wlad past the jab are hugged. Leapai was unable to even breach the safety zone. He was simply picked off and then walloped.
If you can dominate the division, with KOs, and do it in exciting or oddly amazing ways you can capture an audience.
I wonder how many people turned off the Wlad-Leapai fight after those horrendous hugs.

A Wilder-Fury fight would be a good start. Two young, huge, undefeated HWs with shaky chins.
The trash-talking alone would make this a great fight.
Agreed. Most of us weren't around for the rivalry, buildup, and live Holmes vs. Cooney. Finally our generation has an entertaining heavyweight rivalry to look forward to. Two big fighters with big mouths, plus it's UK vs USA like Hatton vs. Mayweather. It's gonna be huge.
Tyson furys the name
Fightings the game
Put the chumps to shame
David Hayes to blame
Fury with fame
Is far from lame
He's not easy to tame
Mayweather Sr would be proud of this
A guy who has unstoppable power, that is what people want to see from heavies. It could be Wilder even with his poor technique because people care about the results not the flaws. If Wilder can continue lay dudes down then he could do it.
If not the concept is still the same a guy who is out to hurt people is a guy that can bring back the heavyweight division. Maybe he is around currently and maybe he isn't who knows but that is the guy bringing back the heavyweight division.
Can't help but agree. Haye's speed and power is the biggest threat to Wladimir.
All Wilder has is a big right hand. His footwork, guard, jab, and chin are terrible.
Diamond Boy will bring Heavyweight boxing back to the main stream.
This wont be popular..
But I think that the most competitive fight that could ever be made still at HW is a Haye Klitschko rematch.
He is the only opponent that is more than a "punchers chance" against Klitschko.
Please note Fury doesn't really have a particularly stunning punch, therefore I give him exactly zero chances vs Wladmir, despite being a more seasoned boxer than Joshua.
Apparently George Foreman agrees with me too, by the look of an article I read linked from Heavyweight Fight Schedule.
Assuming of course Haye's skills have not eroded since last year. Judging by the look of Haye last year, he can still bang with the best.
He allegedly made a statement with the juggernauts he brought over to spar with. That was possibly the best camp I have ever seen assembled, even though the actual fight never went through to fruition.
Fury is so lucky Haye is injury prone. If not he would no longer be a serious factor in the title contention.

Wilder ain't bringing **** back, as soon as he gets clipped he's going down like a sack of 5hit!
The only ones I see bringing it back is Joshua or Fury if they can beat Wlad.

Only the sports media can bring it back.
They chose to ignore Wladimir Klitschko.
wlad fought plenty of times in the usa and they were all horrible fights that people hated and did horrible ratings. maybe if wlad boxed well and didn't clinch nonstop or fight like a b-itch they would like him. lennox was pretty popular in the usa so there's no we hate foreigners excuse. just box and don't stink out the joint nonstop and people will be interested. wlad couldn't do that so he went home where the german crowd will clap for his boring azz for holding nonstop.
Look at whatever demographic watches boxing in a given country and you need the champion to match that demographic to maximize their popularity.
HW boxing is raking in the money in central/eastern Europe.
If you want it big in US cities again you need Wilder or whatever.
It's dead-simple, really. People tend to turn away from a division when every prayer they have is knocked unconscious.

They have an agenda there. :kabong:
As soon as an American's hold the titles again, it will suddenly be considered a great era by their media.
Until then America will continue to retreat into a mythological past and deny it's fighters the proper respect.
Hence tentative comments like I will jump on board IF they do well. Which they are safe making. It'll either be "I told you so" or "must have been bum all along"
Fact.
