A damn good close war. Maidana might go down a time or two but he will keep getting up and coming at Thurman harder and harder and he will KO Thurman in the late rounds.
I know his power can't really be measured, which is why I said I'm basing my opinion on the eye test...
And he was beating Rios (officially), do you really count that as a loss? It was by a comfortable margin if you ignore the stupid point deductions.
He was a favourite with the bookmakers but plenty of people picked Maidana to win, if you look at the official poll on here loads of people picked Maidana to win (ironically, I wasn't one of them :D).
And people who knew Ortiz was a hypejob picked Maidana purely based on that, not because they knew a thing about Maidana. Anyway, just because they were favourites to win it doesn't mean they're any good.
Yes I count the Rios fight as a loss because the outcome was still up in the air at the time he was disqualified.Don't forget the ref deducted points from both fighter not just Chaves. Chaves had everything to win that fight but resorted to applying DDT's and trying to fvck with Rios' eyes. When the fight got tough his only answer was fighting blatantly dirty.
Were you impressed with Soto karass when he hurt Thurman and had him backpeddling? If I recall, karass never hurt maidana.
Hey mang, sure...Karass gave a good acct of himself.
What hurts your tender buttocks about that?
You keep referring to Chaves as if he's proven anything in the sport. His power can't really be measured since it's been nonexistent in his step up fights. He couldn't even beat Rios an average fighter with back to back losses who had been treated like a punching bag his last time out.
Say what you will but Broner was a 5/1 favorite to beat Maidana same line favoring Thruman over Soto-Karass that night. The Ortiz fight was Maidana's first fight in the US and you're kidding yourself if you actually believe people gave him a shot.

Juan Diaz is a lightweight and probably doesn't even hit harder than Chaves P4P. He has little power.
I would favour Chaves mostly based on the eye test.
Anyone who knows boxing knew that Ortiz and Broner were hypejobs and many people predicted Maidana to beat them (especially Broner). And just because it was only official that they're hypejobs after Maidana beat them, it doesn't mean they weren't hypejobs when he beat them.

Even that version of Paulie was coming off beating Juan Diaz twice, while getting robbed the first fight. Diaz was easily far more proven as a fighter and a puncher than Chaves. So why would Chaves be favored?
It's easy to say after the fact but Maidana beat both Ortiz and Broner who were heavy favorites. They only became hypejobs after Maidana beat them.

The Pauli Cotto fought wasn't the same one Khan fought. The reason he's getting another shot is because although not impressive in the Rios fight, he was winning.
Also you could say Maidana has lost everytime he's stepped up as well (barring an overrated, overhyped and blown up Broner). Sure he's beat C level guys like Karass, Ortiz and Lopez, but really his best wins are losses.

So I guess Thurman is thought to have a weak chin...
Or is at least some of it wishful thinking on the part of frustrated Maidana fans?
Other thing is I'm not sure that Thurman is getting enough credit for having smarts enough to box when he ought to. I was impressed in the Soto-Karass fight when One Time appeared to have accepted that he wasn't gonna' be able to get the KO and he spent a lot of time on his toes jabbing and giving angles and staying off the ropes mostly.

I want to see Thurman and Floyd. I don't care about Maidana.
That said, we all know Floyd would never face Thurman. Even though he'd take him to boxing school.
Yeah I know man, I was messing.
78sportstv and Zone6 are big fans.
yea they love them some keith thurman and shawn porter, which is cool.....i enjoy their videos.
Thurman-Brook. Who wins?
Outside of Pac and Floyd, I think Bradley and Brook are the toughest fights for Thurman at 147.
I'd pick Thurman to beat both though.
Based on what? Hell Cotto couldn't stop the 140 version of Paulie and he fought with one eye the whole fight. He's squandered his opportunities to prove himself and somehow is still getting another shot.
It don't really matter Chaves lost to Rios. As Maidana pointed out Chaves can't handle pressure and it showed. The judges had Chaves up a point or two and Rios was clearly making a push.

I would pick Chaves to stop those versions of Pauli and Zab tbh. Obviously Khan has shown more because he's more known, had more opportunities etc, he's for sure a better fighter too.
I don't really see the Rios fight as a loss for Chaves, the judges had him up, as did many others. I thought he dealt with Rios easily enough and the only reason it was close on the cards is because he was behaving like an idiot (as was Rios) and asking for point deductions.
I don't think Chaves is anything special or a huge puncher, just a decent all-round C+/B- fighter.
