GGG is not the typical fighter I am a fan off but I'm an open minded guy. I can obviously see the potential that everybody else can see but I don't think beating up over matched opponents is all that exciting. Personally I thought the Donaire vs Walters fight was much more exciting than the main event.
However I think the Cotto fight will be exciting if Cotto can take GGGs punch. Cotto is the kind of fighter that can pose some problems for GGG with his subtle movement, heavy jab, and experience. Plus GGG can be hit. To me Cotto and GGG are by far the two best MWs and everybody else is a distant 3rd. I can't see Quillin or Canelo competing with either fighter right now.
What I meant was his fights aren't all that exciting. GGG has an exciting style but to this point his opponents haven't shown much resistance. And it takes two to tango.
He needs better competition. A Cotto or Canelo fight would be huge. Of course I think Cotto will fight Canelo next as that fight is HUGE. GGG vs Cotto or Canelo will be huge too I believe. Cotto has never ducked anyone and has the balls to fight GGG as does Canelo. I will have to be at those fights.
I have to admit, for the last few years I've been watching Floyd fight with the hopes of seeing him lose.
Now it seems Floyd/Ward/Lara fans will have this feeling. Enjoy courtesy of GGG :beerchug:
P.S. Waiting patiently for Loma to unify as well
Excitement is in the eye of the beholder. I can get just as excited in dominant one sided performance as I can for a first round KO. What I saw Saturday night was not exciting. I don't really blame Golovkin, he did what he had to do. What's disingenuous is for Jim Lampley and HBO to pretend that what I saw in the Golovkin fight was either exciting or in anyway competitive. Especially, when I just saw a young prospect take on a savvy veteran, got hurt, and and then came back to virtually destroy his opponent. So to answer the question, Golovkin is only as exciting as the level of competition dictates. Right now, I'll wait and to see how exciting he'll be...

You, open minded guy??? :hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:
Read the initial post and stop digressing. Martinez was able to cement the big fights, fights post Williams were average - Macklin, Barker etc. That is the level of competition GGG has been facing. His big fights will now come.
Should I spell it out to you?
Cool so GGG is Martinez minus good wins?
A great point well made.
Who? Martinez and GGG? They share common opponents and bodies of work....oh yeah aside from the fact that Sergio beat actual world class opponents. What kind of argument is this?

id rather watch provodnikov and GGG any day than rigondeaux.
its boxers like rigondeaux, ward, and floyd that have ruined boxing and turned it into a niche sport.
nobody wants to watch pretentious patty cake techniques that runs or clinches excesssively at the first sign of action.
GTFO.
Lol. He mad.
Facts like they share common opponents/body of work. Might need Google for that too right?

Aside from your dick and balls, you'd be a female. What the fuk does that even mean?
I deal in facts not "eventuallys"

I love it how you make out like ring top 10 are club fighters, it's pretty funny. Geale and Macklin aren't 'club' fighters, specifically look what Macklin did to Martinez in his prime days.
It's not just who he fights, it's how dominant his performances are. He hasn't struggled legitimately with anyone, never looked shook or hurt, not been knocked down, hell he hasn't lost any rounds since his fight with Ouma pretty much, and this is the fight where we know he wasn't optimal. He also holds I believe the 2nd highest hit/not get hit stats behind Mayweather.
It's fine if you don't care for his style and aren't entertained by it, but don't downplay the opponents which obviously aren't the tomato cans of the resume, it just makes you look extremely bias.
Ring top 10? Macklin was well past his best which wasn't that good in the first place. Geale is just a very very ordinary fighter. The Middleweight division is god awful so you don't need to be very good to crack the top 10. Ring Top 10 means absolutely nothing.
Sergio was P4P due to his wins over Pavlik and Williams, his resume (aside from Chavez) after that is "bang average" along with GGG.
Gennady will eventually get his Pavlik/Williams moment.

The huge disadvantage GGG has to Mike Tyson is that if you were a heavyweight and wanted to be champion, you had to come beat Tyson.
Being a middle weight and not having all three major belts, people in his own division can duck him and still be "champ", or gain or lose a little bit of weight and get out of his division. Shame but it is what it is.
Sergio was consensus top 5 P4P because he had impressive wins over world class fighters. Golovkin does not. His resume is bang average.
Even worse. Whats a top 5 p4per doing fighting clubfighters one after another, looking not so hot, and retaining his ranking?
Huh, did you really compare GGG to Rios?
GGG KO rate makes uneducated boxing fans think of him as lacking technique. He does seek out fighters but he has so many things he does that is beautiful to watch. Even his last fight Shows how he adjusted his punch to go over the glove of his opponent.
Sweet science does not mean countering all the time. It can be from a stalking position also.
No I never.
I just used him as an example of a fighter often labelled as exciting that I personally find boring. Same with Provodnikov
If you put them together it would probably be exciting but their styles in general are not really for me.
I don't get excited for his fights because his opponents are just so weak.
I can appreciate what he does in terms of skill and punching power but it just falls flat when you see that he's displaying it against a club fighter who is there to survive.
